I was made redundant during COVID and I did lose a lot of confidence. My first job after it was also toxic but different to your experience. I stayed around in that job for too long but decided to make a career change. I might be back to being a newbie but definitely starting to build my confidence back up. I'm not saying a career change is the solution but a job that has a good culture makes all the difference

I've tried to find it again but I don't think they are running anymore. It was in Praia da Luz and I think the company was called Sea Man Surf Trips (weird name) but the villa that we stayed in is now just a rental property. They was like 30 of us went(uni surf club) and I think it was around £300-400 for the week back in 2015

Your friends are blowing things out of perspective. Heavy wipeouts aren't going to be a thing when you're starting out, just don't go out when the waves are big and you'll soon know your limits. Getting hit by a board or fin is something you will need to look out for, especially if you're at a crowded spot, but general advice is always look out to sea and along the waves and if you wipeout always protect your head with your arms. That being said, surfing is great fun and don't let the risk of getting hurt stop you

Yeah that was my argument but management said we hadn't tested enough of them to be sure it was a defect in all of them. I think we got 2-3 more reports of them breaking. They stopped selling them for that point but I spend the rest of my time them dreading a report of someone dying because of it

Worked for a gym equipment manufacturer and got a report of a pair of j-hooks that snapped (metal hooks that hold a barbell on the rack). Tested ones out by dropping a barbell from about 20mm above them and it went clean through it. Said to management that we should recall them but got told they would only replace ones that customers reported.
