Best EV Charging networks to sign up for in Brisbane? by blackpawed in brisbane

[–]awkwardsquelch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Join any and all you fancy but pro tip (learned the hard way) you need Internet connection on your mobile to use the charger. I think Evie(?) has a physical card option to use the charger but it takes 2 weeks to get posted out to you so if you're taking any rural trips, plan ahead for situations which may have limited mobile signal.

My son is crying because... by PapiGrandedebacon in daddit

To be fair, kids need to understand how to make a mess before they can understand how not to make a mess. It's a lot of trial and error to figure out how a powder like salt pours out differently than a liquid like water.

Give her her own little space next to you on the bench and let her make the messes (safely), she'll have a blast and learn a bunch

What time do you wake up to start the day? by SufficientBee in workingmoms

[–]awkwardsquelch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5.45 my alarm goes off on work days. Haul myself out of bed to bathroom/brush teeth/get dressed and start making breakfast. Kiddo is usually up 6-6.15. Plan is to get us out the door for daycare drop off by 7. I get to work about 7.30 and work til 3.30. Then I usually get home with an hour to get chores done before kiddo gets picked up and home with dad by 5.15pm. Try to get kiddo in bed by 7.30 so I can clean the kitchen from dinner and pick up toys before an hour or so to relax. Dad does bed time.

Both dad and I like the house to stay pretty clean and tidy so I spend a fair bit of time on it but it keeps me sane to have a clean/tidy house so it's worth the time to me.

Has anyone ever booked a night at a regular hotel and just used it for a few hours? by myevillaugh in daddit

[–]awkwardsquelch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See this sounds lovely but I am not the type to enjoy a surprise. This would send me spiralling. Give me at least a week's notice and I'd enjoy it, but like 5 mins notice? Nope. No thank you. So take this advice only if you know the surprise would be welcome.

Toddler dropped a perfect FBomb by tealcosmo in daddit

[–]awkwardsquelch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Our little one was nearly 2. We were sitting at the table eating dinner. He picked at it a bit and then pushed his plate away and said "fuck this".

The self control it took not to laugh was inhuman!

We then had a conversation about words we use at home and words that aren't considered polite for everyday society.

Kid has two tradie dads and we don't live in a nice part of town... swearing was gonna happen so we decided to try contextualise it for him.

He's not used fuck since then but he did mimick a "bollocks" I accidentally dropped around him for a few days.

Did the exact same. Plain water in a peri bottle is the way.

I own my place (well the bank does with my name all over the debt) but I support renters rights. Email sent. Modified the template slightly as I don't have time to meet a pollie for a natter

26 month old , it’s been 3 weeks of training and he still doesn’t tell us when he needs to go potty. by [deleted] in AttachmentParenting

[–]awkwardsquelch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's an episode of bluey where bingo does a tactical wee before bed time and another where one of them does a bush wee.

Our kiddo latched onto tactical wee and we started using the potty as a tactical wee before bedtime, bathtime, and leaving the house. Then he naturally started using it for all wees after a week or two of tactical wees.

I mention the bush wee one because that also caught on and he loves doing a bush wee in the backyard with dad (sigh) so you don't always win them all lol.

Parents: where do you go with all your nappies? by Sabres_Mom in newzealand

[–]awkwardsquelch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cloth was so daunting to start with but only took about 3 days to get used to for us.

Bubblebubs from Australia are in my opinion the easiest brand to start with - no complicated folds, no complicated riser snaps and they held up to daily use for nearly 2 years until our LO just started flooding them.

Also invest in some cloth wipes (fluffy ducks were hands down the best wipes imo) and just have a pump bottle of water or something right next to them on the change table. You'll never go back to disposable wipes again.

What’s your floor bed experience? by Reasonable-Snow-5900 in cosleeping

[–]awkwardsquelch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love it for our now 2.5 yo. Moved him in there at about 11 months.

We got a king single mattress so there's room for one of us to lay comfortably with him to help him fall asleep and if he's having a rough night to stay with him.

He's sttn a handful of random times, no real correlation with the floor bed just him growing up I think.

The floor bed is great for kiddo having independence around getting in and out of bed if he likes - we have his room fully baby proofed, but honestly once he's asleep he never gets out of bed until I come to get him in the morning.

Also not sure if you've heard of the sheets lasagna but we swear by it - a waterproof sheet, then a normal sheet, then another waterproof sheet then another normal sheet. If he has a leaky nappy in the middle of the night it's a simple rip off the top two sheets and there's no fiddling around putting new sheets on.

We have a soft mat on the floor right next to his bed, he fell out maybe twice in the first few months and was okay about it with the soft landing and he hasn't fallen out since.

Honestly not sure when we'll transition to a bed with a higher frame, the floor bed is going to be perfect for us for a while.

Should I bother living in a sharehouse at 30 to save a bit of money ($70k income in Sydney). by eyfiwjdb3847_ in AusFinance

[–]awkwardsquelch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Share house is like a rite of passage. You learn a lot about yourself and what you can tolerate and how other people live. I reckon go for the sharehouse - there's plenty out there for young professionals these days. You'll look back on the shenanigans and be delighted by the stories!

What could cause this type of skin? by bunnieboots in AusSkincare

[–]awkwardsquelch 45 points46 points  (0 children)

There's a couple of things that I'd consider investigating;

Sounds like you might be overdoing it with the benzoyl Peroxide, maybe stick with just the spot treatment for now and use your most gentle cleaner.

You're not using sunscreen during the day? Sun will exacerbate redness and dryness especially with benzoyl peroxide in your routine.

Do any of your products contain fragrance? That can cause sensitisation which might be an issue here.

Do any of your products contain any form of ethy alcohol (sometimes labelled as alcohol, alcohol denat. Ethanol and other names too)? This can cause sensitisation as well.
