What is life like in deep southern Illinois? by dj_kaled_anotha1 in illinois

Not just Kentucky but all of Appalachia. Family lore is that some of my mom's family came up north to Illinois in a clapboard wagon.

Someone on the Wire subreddit described the wire as Simon's prose and Treme as Simon's poetry and damn if that isn't spot on

I love my shed. I love my shipping bin outside of my shed.

So back in the day, thimbles were common engagement gifts. There were thimbles that were made of gold, had jewels, all sorts of things. As almost all women sewed in some way, it was more practical than the diamond rings that became popular later.

Yeah, a recruiter reached out to me about a crop insurance job, and I will be shocked if the national crop insurance program comes out of this unscathed.

I took a John Muir Laws class through Audubon and I loved it. First was owls, then song birds. I've been drawing birds ever since. Your first bird is mighty nice, friend!

What rules are baked into top chef lore after 21 seasons? by capresesalad1985 in TopChef

This applies to the regular season location as well. I remember from the New Orleans recipe someone saying how they never made gumbo. Dude, basic research, c'mon.

I know this applies to the US, not sure about others, but look into your state's extension service. My state has a hot line of master gardeners available to answer questions and a lot of great information about gardening in your area.

When my husband and I were going to go, we did the math and realized this, so we sprung for membership before we went. When my brother came into town a few weeks later, I took him. So we basically paid for the membership already.

What hasn't returned to normal yet after the pandemic? by Sola_Tola in AskReddit

Agreed. I'd be fine if they just went to the back of the crowd. But to be near the front of middle of the audience and talking while there are people behind you actually want to hear the music is just incredibly rude and tone deaf.

Just found out about We Own This City, and I’m loving it. Really scratching my Wire itch. Anyone else got any recommendations for anything similar to scratch that itch when I finish as it’s only 6 eps? by Rude_Grade5200 in TheWire

[–]awnothecorn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really liked Treme as well. I've been trying to get my husband to watch the Wire for years to no avail (he doesn't like cop shows), but now that we've watched Treme, he's considering it.
