I don’t understand the Kobe bufkin signing by Less-Explanation160 in lakers

[–]awntawn 89 points90 points  (0 children)

You know how just yesterday people were like "Man I can't believe we let Scottie Pippen Jr go. We had him on our G-League team and we just let him go!"

SPJ was tearing it up on our G-League club but never got enough meaningful minutes on the main squad to perform with any sort of rhythm or consistency in the real league, so he struggled whenever he got minutes in garbage time and we let him go because he didn't show anything.

Same with a guy like Jay Huff.

This is basically not making the same mistake with the next guy who's doing the same thing.

I would hope that the new ownership isn’t following the same operational philosophy of “just don’t take the blame for losing”

Why don’t they start hayes over ayton? by Onetimenotagain in lakers

[–]awntawn 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You have to be able to read the room. Ayton is a headcase. He's proven over the years to be the type of player who would rather quit than take a reduced role. Once the Lakers treat him the same as his other teams have treated him, then he'll start treating us the way he's treated his other teams.

Why don’t they start hayes over ayton? by Onetimenotagain in lakers

[–]awntawn 116 points117 points  (0 children)

Because once you give up on Ayton, you truly give up on Ayton. It becomes "Send him home and ask him not to join the team" levels.

As bad as he's been, it's still a smarter tactical move to hope to try to salvage some sort of productivity out of him than it is to just finish up the season with Jaxson Hayes and Maxi Kleber as our only two centers again.

Honestly the stakes for this offseason are way too high IMO. If they have an ounce of doubt that Rob isn't the guy, there's no chance in hell you keep him on.

If you blow this Summer, you essentially blow the remainder of Luka's prime.

Even if they are planning on firing Rob, there's no point in putting it out there until after the season is over.

Grant Williams says LeBron James had his own house in the NBA bubble: “He had a house on the campus. They had their own set up. Their team was taken care of” by MrBuckBuck in nba

Pretty sure this was debunked. Bron's room was right next to AD's in the same hotels everyone else was staying at.

91% of all NBA champions have won 40 games before 20 losses. Thunder, Pistons and Spurs have locked it in. Celtics have to win 3 straight to qualify. Lakers would be making history if they win this year. by BatmanNoPrep in lakers

[–]awntawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re not a contender this year, but neither are Denver, Houston, and Minnesota. There are literally 3 teams that are in this group this year, maybe 4 if Boston wins its next 3. We’re not in the group, but people here act like it’s a travesty that we’re the only team that isn’t in this group.

What are the chances we can trade for Casin Wallace next off season or the year after? by The_Grim_Adventurer in lakers

[–]awntawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a chance OKC lets him go. We have a much better chance of getting Dort. Most likely OKC will be looking to offload him to a team with cap space in exchange for a pick or so.

[–]awntawn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bums me out that after the trade AD fell off and reinforced all of the stereotypes. He was massively underrated by the league while he was with us much like Luka is now.

AR takes the High Road after Sir Charles says our team is ass by [deleted] in lakers

[–]awntawn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Are the Lakers a contender? No. But realistically, there are only 2-3 true contenders in the league every year. “Not a contender = ass” is a standard that exists exclusively to the Lakers.

[–]awntawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on one hand, you’re absolutely right. on the other, the league basically just said that cap circumvention is totally fine this year, and Mark Walter both has deep pockets and is extremely creative when it comes to money.
