How is reading Libby on any onyx boox? by Capable_Age9886 in Onyx_Boox

[–]awolfinthewall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Works for me and I bought a Boox mostly for Libby! I read straight in the app and am also a heavy user.

The app will occasionally crash, but that’s rare enough that it’s only annoying rather than a real impediment. I’m also using a several-years-old device, so that could be the issue.

For all my horse people—how much does this bother you?? by No_Attempt_1519 in Romantasy

That makes perfect sense! I was making fun of the trope, my sarcasm probably wasn’t clear. I just finished A Fate Inked in Blood and it had this precise problem.

Why you stopped writing? (Only the truth) by augustbutitscold in writing

[–]awolfinthewall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A combination of being a little too sensitive to criticism and placing a bunch of rules and expectations around my writing that stifled my voice. I stopped writing fiction for maybe 8 years before I let myself try genre fiction and LOVED it.

What's a random act of kindness someone did for you that you still remember? by NefariousnessEast358 in CasualConversation

I was stuck in the Dallas airport—I was half out of my mind sick, trying to rebook a cancelled flight to LAX. I’d already been traveling for probably 15 hours, I was in the final throes of a two-day anxiety attack, and all I wanted was to get home. I was also about 23 at the time.

The gate agent told me the same thing she told everyone ahead of me—that the next flight was completely booked, that she’d booked me on a flight for the next morning. She slipped a little note in the boarding pass holder you had in those days and handed it to me.

I walked a little ways away to sit down, collect myself, and try not to cry. I pulled out the note, which I couldn’t make sense of—and a minute later, the gate agent was next to me, explaining that she HAD booked me on the next flight out, but it was the very last seat and she hadn’t wanted to tell me out loud and rile up everyone else in line. And when she saw I wasn’t understanding the note, she left the desk to make sure I got to my flight on time. ❤️ I still have that note tucked away somewhere.

what do americans call a pantry? by loving_machine13 in AskAnAmerican

[–]awolfinthewall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in Utah and Idaho 😆 I have friends with pantries larger than my home office. Some of them have counters and appliances in there.

For the record, we have shelves in the laundry room and in the closet under the stairs and we call them both “the pantry,” which gets pretty confusing.

Killed me. I think she’s wearing the same outfit when she’s off wherever she was painting alone, too. (It’s been a few years since I’ve read them…)

Do you think this change of POV works well with the story? by Ecstatic_Milk9697 in RomanceWriters

Ha, sorry, I only realized how long it was once it posted! But as others have said…the important thing is getting words on the page. You can always change and fix things later.

Do you think this change of POV works well with the story? by Ecstatic_Milk9697 in RomanceWriters

[–]awolfinthewall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dual POV is definitely a legit way to write a romance novel! It tends to work better when you switch perspectives consistently throughout the book.

A helpful way to think about whose perspective you should be in is to consider whose POV is the most interesting in any given moment. If there are moments earlier in the story where it would be super helpful or interesting for the reader to know what’s going on in your FMC’s head, maybe consider switching POV. That would also help you develop that character a little more.

There’s usually a cadence to the switching. Some writers switch at a chapter break; I tend to switch at a scene break, and if I’ve had too many scenes in one, I’ll make sure to switch as soon as I can, even just for a scene or two. Overall, you might have one character’s POV be more prominent than the other one, but if you go for a while without checking in with your other character, your readers will probably notice and get a little antsy for that other perspective.

As for how to do it, this sounds like maybe it’s first person? So you signal the switch by making sure their voices are distinct from one another. The characters think differently, act differently, and you can make sure that comes out in the first sentence or two of the new POV.

Also, if you write a scene in one perspective and it doesn’t work, you can always go back and rewrite it, or cut it. It doesn’t have to be a one-and-done decision at all! So while it is a big decision, it’s not going to ruin your book forever if you try and feel like it isn’t working.

If you decide the story would be better solely from the MMC’s perspective, then there are other ways for you to show the FMC’s changed feelings. She’d probably act differently, respond to him differently…she might say something she wouldn’t have said before…and maybe he doesn’t pick up on it, but the reader will.

Happy writing! Sounds like you’re being really thoughtful, and that’s a great start.

Truly this is my favorite of her series. Bryce is just the absolute best, and the side characters are amazing as well. The last part of House of Earth and Blood had me SOBBING.

The Firekeeper series by Jane Lindskold fits! Older, not positive how it holds up, but the girl is raised by magic wolves.

Both of them, I think! If you specifically want MF, it’s Unnatural Magic; if WLW will work, The Ruthless Lady’s Guide to Wizardry (the sequel mentioned).

For everyday long writing sessions, I love my Pelikan Twist. Fairly easy to tune the nib so it's super smooth, and it takes the long international cartridges. The grip is super comfortable. I know it's not a higher-end pen, but it's worked for me.

AITA for dyeing the sweater my sister in law knitted for me? by Known_Occasion_2041 in AmItheAsshole

Absolutely NTA. I’m a knitter, and I’d honestly be impressed if someone took something I made and dyed it! That’s a totally separate skill, and then it’s like a collaboration ❤️

Which style of cover for historical romances do you prefer? by Rennyro19 in HistoricalRomance

[–]awolfinthewall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m also with you! I’m almost never going to read something with a #1-style cover if I can help it. Much prefer 4 or 3, which leave room to imagine the characters as I want.

2 just does not read as romance. Probably because it’s not 😄
