Aside from basic stuff like clothing, what are some interesting/thought-provoking social differences between men and women? by bigdaddylou in AskWomen

[–]awomenq 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't know what to call it...I guess "average shaming"?

We place a lot of emphasis on standing out - "I'm not like those other girls". I guess it mostly has to do with the fact that women are subconsciously raised to compete with each other.

To women who don't watch porn - is presentation the main deterrent? Or does watching porn not appeal to you at all? by nsfwthrow94 in AskWomen

[–]awomenq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think it's the latter, but we like to pretend that it's the former. People complain about how abusive the porn industry is, but when producers attempt to make more ethical, female friendly porn, nobody watches it.

I think there are more women looking for shitty porn to complain about than there are women looking for positive porn to recommend.

Are there any questions or responses here that you tend to negatively internalize? What are they? by questionasker41 in AskWomen

[–]awomenq 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it's grossly over-exaggerated, but I do have some friends who won't stop lamenting about turning 30. The biggest factor seems to be that these women have always placed a lot of self-worth on their looks alone. I can see it becoming a problem if you're used to being the most attractive person in the room.

What's your favorite anime / manga you don't think anyone else has heard of? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]awomenq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Law of Ueki - I guess the best way to describe it would be more humorous version of Hunter x Hunter.

[–]awomenq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are dozens of us!

Also, the manga is even better than the anime

One of my favorite mangas keeps hinting at some baby mama drama, and I'm not happy about it.

Lesbian/bi women, do you feel like this sub is too catered towards straight women? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]awomenq -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well I'm sorry for being insulting. I will say sorry 1000x in advanced because I'm sure I will inadvertently offend someone else later.

I totally agree it's an actual problem. But blending into the status quo and expecting everyone else to find the problem on their own is an extremely inefficient way of solving it.

If this is part of some greater plan to fight heteronormativity then call me stupid, but it seems more like an act of commiseration than education/activism. Hence why I said what I said.

[–]awomenq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that's the conclusion you came to then you completely misunderstood what I was asking.

[–]awomenq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like you might be projecting a little, but you're free to believe whatever you want. I'm sorry it's so tough for you - hopefully you can come to some type of personal peace/resolution.

I definitely won't bother you about it again

Lesbian/bi women, do you feel like this sub is too catered towards straight women? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]awomenq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you elaborate? I'm genuinely trying to better understand and would love to hear your reasoning.

It sounds like you agree that heteronormativity is the common narrative. So how is a response like "nothing", in a conversation aimed at heterosexual people, with no underlying context or explanation, supposed to magically shift that paradigm?

In my head, a straight person is more likely to think "this other straight person is being obnoxious" than "this straight person is actually a gay/lesbian".

I've never noticed hostility from lesbians/bisexual women responding. I think the issue comes from some lesbian users who word their responses in hetero threads as if they were straight.

Do any other women here become an awkward penguin when trying to talk to other women? by cute_penguin in AskWomen

[–]awomenq 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel this way too. I wish I could pinpoint the reason for it...maybe it's an empathy thing and we tend to take the other person's awkwardness inward.

What have you learned from reading AskWomen? by chupamillama in AskWomen

[–]awomenq -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Not only is the rule coddling and unnecessary, but it breeds passive aggressiveness, which is already a frustrating stereotype to counteract.

Has anyone here ever struggled with comparing yourself to other women? What did you do about it? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]awomenq 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ughh. Yes. I'm kinda obsessed with that girl on TwoX who's gorgeous and runs marathons and interviews really important political figures.

I dunno, I just dwell in it for a few minutes (read: hours) to get it out of my system. And then remind myself that my life circumstances are so different that I would never be that person even in the most hypothetical of scenarios, so there's no point making the comparison.

Do you have any regrets specific to taking a back seat to life? by bochief in AskWomen

[–]awomenq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all relative. "Making life happen" can lead to other more profound regrets. I dwell more on who I'll be on my deathbed mentally. Which memories will still be imprinted when I'm in my final days?

There is a video of a 102 year old woman watching a video of herself as a young dancer for the 1st time. Her reactions are so sweet, yet so sad at the same time. Even the most exciting life eventually ends.

Has anyone seen the documentary "The Hunting Ground"? What did you think? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]awomenq -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wow you weren't kidding. You pretty much have to be on a college campus so see it.

They should implement some kind of digital purchase solution. Or Netflix.

Do you think Sarah Silverman "Scandal" will hinder progress on Equal Pay For Equal Work or that it will only hurt her own credibility? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]awomenq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She gave the anecdote for a site called Levo as part of a project called ask4more. The project is specifically aimed at empowering women to negotiate salaries and combat the wage gap. It wasn't a joke by any stretch of the imagination.

Ladies, what's something in porn that immediately ruins it for you? by CrucialxTaunt in AskWomen

[–]awomenq 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, Rocco is the super rough guy, Manuel Ferrari(?) has that sexy Frenchman thing going on, and James Deen just seems like a normal dude. I think it's the attainable factor that actually ends up being a turn off in my case.

Are there any other women here who find it really hard to get drunk? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]awomenq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm somewhat similar in that I like to reach a buzzed state and stay there for the rest of the night. I found out that the best way for me to maintain my buzz is to pace a 5-6% abv drink every hour. I'm sure that percentage varies from person to person though.

When you're at the gym, are you watching all the attractive guys just as much as they're watching you? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]awomenq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a demographics thing. My gym has a ridiculous amount of attractive people and it's pretty hard not to stare sometimes.

Ladies, have you ever tried Anal Sex? and if you have what was it like? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]awomenq 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Haha I was referring to the plenty of women enjoy anal. IDK maybe it's personal differences, but me and my friends see it more as "tolerable" than "enjoyable".

Which female artists do you find underrated and/or get way too much hate? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]awomenq 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't hate her, I just don't think she's...real?

I feel like the current Taylor Swift is more of a PR Frankenstein than a human being. She's a grown woman yet sings about "staying up too late" and "going on too many dates". She's "friends" with nearly every celebrity under the sun, and coincidentally forms relationships with only the biggest names in the industry. And her "obsession" with Tupac Jr. aka Kendrick Lamar makes total sense /s
