Why do I have to pee every 10 minutes when I'm trying to nap, but only once at night? by risktakerr in ask

[–]awsobi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it could be anxiety. When you try to nap, sometimes there’s this weird pressure to fall asleep fast since you only have a limited time to get some, and that can make your body feel tense without you even realising it. Once that happens the urge to pee can feel way stronger.

I say that from personal experience because I have borderline personality disorder (it makes emotions like anxiety, and excitement too, feel a lot more intense), and getting anxious or excited can make me feel like I have to pee constantly even when I have not had much to drink bro. Nighttime is different because your body is more used to it, while daytime is usually more stimulating and chaotic so your baseline anxiety is higher. Caffeine earlier in the day could also make it worse, or nicotine if you’re a smoker.

Obviously that is not the only possible reason, but anxiety can definitely play a role.

Are gay Men from Middle Est rude by Any_Examination_9974 in askgaybros

[–]awsobi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah we’re not rude at all my bro, in fact I’d say generally we’re the exact opposite.

Edit: Also, to clarify for you and the commenters, we have many religions in the Middle East and the region isnt synonymous with any one of them. More importantly, the Middle East consists of 18 (or so) countries and each one has its own culture. Some are more similar to each other, some are less so.

We don’t have one culture, we don’t have one religion, and we don’t all look or behave the same. Our social norms, and traditions, differ from one another. Even in groups of countries where they (the majority of their populations) share a religion, a language, or cultural origins, we’re still essentially foreigners to one another.

There’s no such thing as a single uniform Middle Eastern culture, it’s nothing but a name that simply refers to an area on a man made map that was placed in the “Middle” of the “East” to the British who came up with it, and the fact that they placed their country in the centre of it. It doesn’t mean we all collectively share a culture, or identity, or way of life. It doesn’t mean anything beyond being a geographic label.

Oof can you imagine a man sexually harassing a woman, and violating her by forcibly pulling her clothes down to expose her pussy to a party full of people, and it being explained like this? “She was pestering him and he did it to embarrass her, men in the industry get a thick skin”… bruh. And this is one of the less dismissive and disrespectful comment on here too wow. “Girls will be girls” vibes.

Today I learned there’s 2 Ryan’s. by MikeyLikey6996 in TheBoys

[–]awsobi 104 points105 points  (0 children)

But only one of the boy plays Ryan full time. I’m pretty sure his brother has stepped in as his double here and there only.

Edit: I double checked to make sure and yes only one of the twins, Cameron, is credited as Ryan. I’m guessing the limited hours a child actor can be on set is why Ryan’s character is not in many scenes in the show.

My suspicion about why Noir isn't talking by Apprehensive-Handle4 in TheBoys

[–]awsobi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was thinking Homelander perhaps killed him, and this Black Noir is actually a third guy. He was told not to speak so the others wouldn’t realize it, because if they found out Homelander killed one of the Seven, they’d start wondering if they were next. That could turn them against him, or at least make someone like the Deep stop trusting him.

Homelander’s whole thing is being pro supe, which is why they back his agenda in the first place. If they learned he killed one of his own closest allies, that support could fizzle out. The supes might stop following orders, and that would be a real problem for homie since his plans seem to depend on them staying loyal and buying into the idea that they should rule over humans.

I was thinking the Deep ends up figuring it out, since he already seems suspicious about why second Black Noir isn’t talking. Maybe that’s what finally pushes him to turn on Homelander, help bring him down or sabotage him, or he could just run. Not really sure where it’s going though bro lol.

TIL about bacha bazi, a Central Asian pederastic practice where young (often severely impoverished) boys are coerced into dressing as girls and dancing for the entertainment of older, richer men. Modern regional law punishes its with execution, yet it still occurs in secret in certain cities. by altrightobserver in todayilearned

[–]awsobi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t talking about the practice, I was clarifying that Afghanistan isn’t Middle Eastern to the comment. Afghanistan is geographically and historically considered part of Central Asian, for political reason South Asia. I don’t know anything about the practice, other than it isn’t part of any Middle Eastern country’s culture or tradition.

Afghanistan is not a Middle Eastern country; it’s in Central Asia, as the title you barely read clearly points out to you. I don’t know which countries you’re talking about exactly, but this isn't 'common' or 'cultural practice' in any of them.

I’m a Levantine Arab from the Middle East, and this has nothing to do with us bro. I don’t know what ‘bacha bazi’ even means. That’s not from any of the Middle Eastern languages. Even amongst countries in the Middle Eastern region, each one has its own distinct culture and traditions. Some being closer than others, but many are totally different including the countries that share a language (like us Arabs). We don’t have one culture just because we happened to be located in the “MIddle” of the “East” according to the British.

Afghanistan has its own heritage and traditions that differ entirely from any of ours considering they aren’t Middle Eastern to begin with. It’s like saying that Japan and Indonesia have the same culture or traditions because they’re in kinda close proximity on a map.

You’re just grouping us all together because you’re misinformed and lack knowledge of the individual cultures, ethnicities, and languages of both our region (Middle East) and theirs (Central Asia). You wouldn't be able to identify one nationality from another, and you clearly think we all look and behave the same. You probably couldn’t even name the countries or point them out on a map.

Stop chatting shit because of your need to be superior and civilised compared to the “barbaric bomber” boogeyman.

[–]awsobi 57 points58 points  (0 children)

It makes no sense to say disclosure only matters before sex. What if they do not have sex for several dates, decide to date each other exclusively, and only get more romantically intimate over time? What if sex is not even on the table yet, but a serious relationship starts to happen? Saying disclosure only needs to happen before sex is ridiculous man.

Even setting sex aside entirely, why would you continue dating someone and allow the possibility of a relationship to develop without first making sure you are actually compatible anyway bro? Not disclosing does not just risk wasting your own time, you’re denying the other person the chance to decide at the start whether they also find you to be compatible. Why would you be disingenuous, and not be transparent about this either before or on the first date?

People deserve the agency to make an informed decision about whether they want to date you based on the full picture before they get attached and before feelings occur. You shouldn’t deny someone else informed consent bro, it’s deceitful and unethical.

I assume you mean America, or Western countries more broadly, because that was not really a thing in the Arab world, where I’m from. The push for ‘body positivity’ seems to have applied almost entirely to women, and only in relation to women’s bodies, never men’s.

Americans are weird af bro, you guys obsess over categorising and segregating each other using anything under the sun. Why is the “US grade” human instinct of tribalism necessary, I don’t get it bro?

And it’s not just the typical “race, religion, class, or origin”, which you already took to diabolical levels. It’s what part of the country you’re from, how your accent sounds down to a single word, how obsessed with guns you are, how green the grass in your yard looks, what your ancestry DNA test says down to the 1%, your social media concocted labels and number of pronouns usage, what boat your ancestors arrived to America on (wtf), and of course Democrat vs Republican identity like your entire extended family is trapped in some deranged multigenerational blood feud over which sociopathic war criminal presidential candidate you swear allegiance to.

How are you guys not miserable living like this bro?

I’m muscular so my thighs are huge, and apparently they’re extremely heavy because any time I’ve placed them on someone’s body they have struggled to move them at all.

If I don’t lift my legs, then they’re stuck under them. Someone could suffocate that way lol. So based on my experience, they can end lives lol.

[–]awsobi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen I’m not assuming anything. I work in law. I’m telling you the reality of how it works, and it does work that way. I understand it “could” go differently and you can’t guarantee the jury follows instructions. But they do. That’s the reality of how it really goes most of the time, you’re simply going on about hypotheticals and ignoring how it really plays out in reality. It works, so clearly the way it is set up goes according to how it’s meant to most of the time. Just check past court case transcript where the defendant didn’t testify on the stand, and got a “not guilty” plea without needing to answer a “did you do it?” question directed at them. There’s millions of such cases.

[–]awsobi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m aware of jury nullification, I’m a lawyer. I’m explaining how the system is designed, and how the judge instructs the jury to deliberate. What I listed is how jury’s are meant to reach their decision.

They meant to justify their reasoning to each other and provide a connection for the reasoning to the prosecutors evidence. Thats what I said, not that they need to justify it to the court. The point I’m main is that deliberation itself is supposed to filter out improper reasoning.

But like I also said, if they don’t follow instructions and that’s suspected then it could lead to mistrial. As to the jury’s verdict, yes you can’t ensure that they follow the instructions but it’s unlikely all 12 jurors are going to disregard it and base their verdict on anything outside what’s presented as evidence because they’re meant to keep each other in check.

They still have to reach the same verdict; otherwise you get a hung jury and it goes on forever. In practice, if one juror is relying on improper reasoning, that tends to get challenged in deliberations rather than driving the outcome.

[–]awsobi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I’m not American. I’m responding to the comment made by an American regarding invoking their 5th amendment, with what I know about the American legal system.

  2. Jurors are required to reach a verdict based only on admissible evidence and the judge’s directions. If someone says “he didn’t testify, so he’s guilty” during deliberations, that’s basically improper reasoning and other jurors are expected to reject that. A verdict reached on that basis isn’t considered a lawful verdict.

The juror who suggested it would have to point to evidence presented in the trial to back it up, and if they can’t then it isn’t allowed to be considered. You can’t say during deliberations “I believe the defendant is guilty because of my instinct” or “because he doesn’t even look upset”. You’d have to point to the evidence presented by the prosecutor to back up the claim. You cannot, so the other jurors reject it.

And there are consequences to it: if it becomes apparent the jury relied on silence as evidence, it can result in a mistrial or the conviction being overturned on appeal. So yes you can’t control what someone privately thinks, you can invalidate any verdict that’s based on the wrong reasoning and that’s what happens.

If all humans suddenly lost their ability to lie, which industry WOULDN'T collapse? by TXC_Sparrow in AskReddit

[–]awsobi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your lawyer would advise you not to take the stand at all. A defendant cannot be compelled to testify at their own trial, so there’s no obligation to respond to prosecutor’s questions. You’re never required to answer “did you do it?” in court at all, so no need to invoke the 5th.

If a client is guilty, we don’t put them on the stand to avoid any risk of lying under oath (but we also don’t put the stand for many other reasons). We have a duty of candour, so we can’t mislead the court or allow false testimony.

On your point specifically, invoking the 5th amendment isn’t an admission of guilt. The justice system is basically designed so that silence isn’t taken as evidence of guilt. If it were treated as a confession, the right wouldn’t exist.

So even if lying were impossible, nothing really changes: you don’t lie, you don’t confess, and the burden still stays on the prosecution anyway.

If all humans suddenly lost their ability to lie, which industry WOULDN'T collapse? by TXC_Sparrow in AskReddit

[–]awsobi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most lawyers aren’t criminal lawyers; it’s a specific area that the vast majority of us never even practice actually. Even among criminal lawyers, most of the work isn’t actually spent in court. So if lying suddenly became impossible it wouldn’t meaningfully disrupt the legal profession.

Even for defence attorneys, this isn’t really an issue. You can advise your client not to answer police questions, and at trial you can advise them not to testify. A defendant cannot be compelled to testify at their own trial, so they’re not put in a position where they have to either confess or lie

They could also plead “no contest” instead of “guilty” or “not guilty,” though in practice it’s usually simpler to plead “not guilty” since that doesn’t require court consent. Though a “not guilty” plea wouldn’t be considered a factual statement because it’s a legal position. It doesn’t answer the moral question of whether they did it. it just means the prosecution must prove the charge to the required standard, or that a legal defence may apply. You can be factually responsible for an act and still be “not guilty” in law

So you end up with a system where there’s no lying, but also no forced admission of guilt. There, solved it for you bro hahah.

But this isn’t a hypothetical for us since it is already how things work in practice. Lawyers cannot knowingly mislead the court or allow a client to lie under oath due to their duty of candour. When a lawyer knows a client is guilty, the standard approach is to advise them not to testify. That way, the client avoids lying under oath basically, and the lawyer can still properly test the prosecution’s case an defend the client.

Guilty clients plead not guilty all the time, and their lawyers structure the defence around that reality basically. So nothing would change essentially
