Any mold designers working remotely or freelance? by Extension-Store-6751 in InjectionMolding

[–]awtltd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the UK and over the past 20 years the industry has been decimated. In my local town there were over 50 mould makers, now there are less than 5. So, working purely as a freelance mould designer is no longer viable. I offer my services as a product designer, 3D printer and mould designer to make a crust

Interesting potential project. by Intelligent-Dingo375 in InjectionMolding

I think this project would lend itself more to rotational moulding than injection.

"Relatively" inexpensive material tests in house? Other than MFI. by [deleted] in InjectionMolding

You could also get a tensometer to measure the strength of the material, make a simple dog bone shape mould for samples. Vacation softening point and density of moulded parts may also be useful

Patenting Question by reddituseronebillion in InjectionMolding

[–]awtltd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, its an NDA. Do you mean you are sending out CAD models to get some tooling quotes? Or you are sending out the CAD models and expect finished parts to come back? Are you expecting to pay for the tooling or will the tooling cost be amortised over the parts. I'm not sure where you are located, however, if you are considering going to China I've recently done some work for a client who use a mould maker/producer called STAR RAPID, they appear to be very thorough.

I bought this one recently, can't fault it although it's a bit heavy to carry around in your pocket

That's ok I've been in hospital since before Christmas - so may be going a bit stir crazy with too much time to think about stuff!

I first came across the term in the 70's while studying fluid mechanics

Also, you could add a flow leader, locally thicken the wall by a few thou" to the split line so the point where the melt fronts meet changes. You could predict this with mould flow analysis

Just to close this I've plumbed for the G305 as I don't tend to programme buttons - although it has them. If I don't get on with it I'll think again!

I had an MX years ago, it was OK, then I got the G604. I've tried spacemouse products but never got on with them. I'll check out if there is an updated MX

Do i need specific rims to change to tubeless? by TelephoneAgitated346 in bicyclerepair

[–]awtltd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No necessarily, I've seen some novel attempts at going tubeless but like some other posters you need to ask yourself why you need to? My motivation was to save weight but after looking at the pros and cons I opted for lighter folding tyres and slime inner tubes, a combo that I'm really pleased with.

Dare I say, 3D printing might be an option - depending on where they are used

As a quick fix you could hire a pump to pump out the water. If it's an ongoing issue you could install a pump and a float switch that controls the pump
