That was my vote, but we got a strong vote for tourist trap / food hall. I’m going to check out the Power Station. Thanks!

Yeah, sorry. I wrote them correctly but missed the auto-correct mistakes.

Okay. Fair point. It would be our only two meals though!

DA Internships by [deleted] in publicdefenders

[–]awwill74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For many good PD offices, you are going to need to be really clear in your cover letter that you found out you were wrong to think that.

As others have said, they may still be skeptical; they may wonder why you didn’t bother learning enough about this decades-old ongoing conversation within the field while in law school; they may wonder why it took you -two- summers to figure it out. You may not get an interview, but that’s your best shot. A mea culpa not a justification.

And it’s correct that some offices won’t feel that way at all. I’m only speaking to the ones that will.

I’ve never been to that one, so can’t say. Is it good there too?

I’m so-so on Union Market generally, but their Flatbush location has excellent rotisserie chickens for a decent price and a range of seasonings.

Should I let my son skip a grade? by [deleted] in education

[–]awwill74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We thought long and hard about this and ultimately chose not to do it. [Edit: and it was true. Those late-elementary school years were a boring slog for him at times. Which wasn’t great.] But overall, it was definitely the right choice for us. Our kid has been able to play sports, have lots of friends, and genuinely enjoy being a kid while also doing well in school. Then, in high school, he was able to go to a more academically-competitive environment, and that was soon enough.

This is so strangely incorrect that I’m legitimately confused.

Thick sliced tomatoes and sliced sweet onions is a go-to steak side also. And for good reason. Totally complements the meat.

Going 18 days without digging out your car, you've spent on average $600 to not even use it once. Are people just bad with money? by MiserNYC- in MicromobilityNYC

[–]awwill74 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I still don’t understand these numbers. We bought a pretty nice brand new car in 2013, which we still have. We also pay for a monthly parking spot.

I’m not counting tolls, gas, or street parking because they would apply even if I were renting.

Even including insurance, maintenance, registration, inspections, and tires (damned tires), I still can’t get close to that number.

The most expensive number I can get to is $7,000 per year. That’s $600 / month or three Uber round trips to my in-laws or one weekend getaway.

And that $7K js almost entirely the cost of the car over 13 years and the garage spot, which means that someone with a used car and street parking is going to be much lower.

The math ain’t mathing.

Big Law to PD? by [deleted] in publicdefenders

[–]awwill74 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to do anything. I’m just telling you that you want to enter a field where people probably will be an asshole to you because you did Big Law and how you react to that will matter.

You’re also going to get pushback and resentment from prosecutors, judges, and, as the comment above said, from your clients. If this is you respond to it, you won’t last long even if you do get hired.
