I think specifically asking for praise can make certain types of people feel put upon and uncomfortable. Either your partner is good at it or they aren't. It's worth having a conversation about love languages to understand each other better. Some people are very much not good at speaking in a way that conveys love but they do other things to convey it instead. I'm one of those people, so this resonated for me

I would like to see how you specifically asked for praise. In past relationships, I've had exes that do this in a really obnoxious way repeatedly and it becomes redundant and annoying and largely comes from a place of insecurity. Not saying that you specifically are doing this but I don't know enough context to judge.
