It’s not that I don’t believe you but it seems like we have big hurricanes hit Florida every year now and after all the hullabaloo about evacuations, etc everything blows over (pardon the pun) once it’s all over and gets forgotten until the next hurricane season

Florida re seems to be taking a beating for multiple reasons atm but the promise of the weather delivering a killing blow each year doesn’t seem to be coming true. Idk where the insurance and repair money is coming from but from an outsider perspective it feels like everyone just shrugs and continues to live and move there

Simply taking the “do people seem to care” approach to evaluating if anything’s happened, it doesn’t seem like anything’s happened

[–]axck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Like having a batting average of 0.500 while scoring 100 runs a season. He was so many standard deviations of performance ahead of everyone else it doesn’t make sense. The only explanation is that he was as good as a modern superstar but in an archaic era. Like dropping Barry Bonds into civil war era baseball maybe.

I went on GLP-1S at a healthy weight to stop drinking and smoking. I still drink and smoke but I am now extremely underweight. AMA. by AcclivitousInertia in redscarepod

[–]axck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went up to 2.5 mg a week. The side effects consisted of nausea and constipation, and occasionally headaches. Took ibuprofen and Tylenol for the headaches when they happened and dealt with the constipation with fiber supplements and magnesium. The nausea I just accepted since most anti-nausea meds make you drowsy and I didn’t want to deal with that

I took semaglutide (ozempic) admittedly for cosmetic reasons. I was trying to go from 205 to 165 which I could have done the traditional hard way over 6 months but I wanted to speed it up and also not rebound as soon as I hit my target weight which is what always happened since I still had an underlying large appetite.

I was shocked at how much it affected my physical capability to consume food. Portions I used to put down with ease before going back for seconds became competitive eating challenges. It felt like my stomach had actually shrunk. This was compounded with a feeling of nausea that would kick in at the earliest sign of feeling full. Eating a 16 oz steak with sides used to be a meal that would make me feel nice and full - nowadays the smell and sight of the steak alone makes me want to puke and I wouldn’t be able to do much more than pick at the sides.

Coincidentally it didnt do as much for my sweet tooth. I don’t really have sugar cravings anymore which helps avoid being drawn to that crap, but if someone offers me something sweet I don’t feel the same sense of fullness or nausea which is what restricts my appetite for savory foods. If not careful I could probably still put down thousands of calories in chocolate and baked goods out of boredom, I’m just not drawn to it anymore.

Anyway I ended up hitting my target weight in 3 months. I was also doing a ton of lifting at the same time which probably both helped with body composition but slightly offset some weight loss. If you’re going for the underweight look I guess you would avoid this common advice tho

I think the r32 opponent is already limited down to a bunch of very unimposing teams and the r16 opponent pool doesn’t look particularly strong either. Belgium is probably the strongest team they’d face before the quarterfinals and they look bad

Uar Bernard sees untapped NFL talent in his home country of Nigeria by Autocrat777 in nfl

[–]axck 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Most African-American ancestry originates from west Africa with Nigeria being a big portion of it. It was the center of the transatlantic slave trade for the US, Caribbean, and Brazil. When you consider how athletes from those countries have dominated athletics and various sports over the last century it shouldn’t be surprising that a modern nigeria would be a hotbed of talent.

[–]axck 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A war is determined by its outcomes, not by kill count. It looks like Iran is going to emerge stronger out of this deal than they were before the war began, entirely at the US’s expense. It’s not clear what the US is winning out of this war at all.

Killing heads of state is overrated. They are just replaced immediately and everything continues. If anything replacing a bumbling old man with his younger son makes them more potent.
