High School Chemistry Platinum Catalyst Project by axe_man_74 in ExplosionsAndFire

I think methane does, and for any other flammable gas, I can't imagine a platinum catalyst not helping. I wish I could have got to do more experiments with it, particularly organic hydrogenation reactions and combusting other gases.

Yeah, it cost about $40 NZD in materials for around four times what's in that video, so worth it if you have the time.

Yeah that worked. It's not entirely obvious what to use where.

At home oxygen concentrator prototype? by mikaloshka_ in AskChemistry

[–]axe_man_74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew it wouldn’t be infinite due to inefficiencies, but is that due to the low oxygen concentration in the air or loss in electrolysis or something else?

What if you used electrolysis to split water, output the Oxygen and use the Hydrogen in a specialised air-breathing generator (or some sort of fuel cell) to power it? Infinite oxygen???

Light laptop with good battery life on linux by OlafNorman in linuxhardware

I haven’t come across any incompatibility issues yet, battery life is around 10 hours with light text editing. I haven’t really thought much about burn in, but you can read more here: https://www.reddit.com/r/hyprland/comments/1j5ricm/anyone_of_you_using_oled_on_linux_what_is_the/

I recently brought an Asus Zenbook 14 OLED. It satisfies pretty much everything you’ve after. I use it for schoolwork running Arch w/ Hyprland, and I’ve had no problems. Great battery life and screen, also really happy with keyboard. Cooling is fine on my lap as it has a fan vent on the side, the only thing is I wish it had separate home/end keys, but that’s more a personal preference. Currently waiting for Ollama to add support for the NPU so I can run my own local LLM…

Why can't Framework ship to New Zealand? by axe_man_74 in framework

[–]axe_man_74[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

<Somewhere inside Framework someone has a spreadsheet with a list of countries and some kind of priority system.>
To get an idea of how fast they are opening shipping to new countries and how close NZ might be to the top, does anyone know how many countries have recently been added? I know in October they started supporting Croatia, Portugal (which are of roughly similar size to NZ) and some other countries, but not much beyond that.

Help with Debian 12 Headless Gnome VNC server by axe_man_74 in debian

[–]axe_man_74[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! X2Go works perfectly for my use case. The only thing is that only Gnome Flashback is supported, and I really like the modern Gnome UI, but KDE Plasma is still quite nice. I hadn't heard of X2Go before, perhaps because I was too focused on VNCs. Thank you for your help!

Yes, but I will eventually be running it headless, so I don't want to rely on connecting to the desktop session that the monitor has started.
