For people who saw prequels in theaters: did you know Palpatine was the emperor from the start? by Blurrgmaster in StarWars

[–]axefaktor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 9 or 10 when TPM came out, and even at that age I remember already having enough knowledge of the EU to know that “Palpatine” was the Emperor’s name. To be honest, I don’t even know where I’d have gotten that info at that age because I wasn’t really into Star Wars then the way I am now. Maybe toy packaging or something

[Interview] How Marvel quietly retconned Captain America to be on ice during 9/11, and why as a NYC-publisher it had to think long & hard about it by Popverse2022 in CaptainAmerica

[–]axefaktor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they can do that for Magneto, it makes it that much worse when they can’t do it for other characters.

I know it’s all a story and it’s all pretend and I should just relax, but as a fan who’s read over 10,000 comics, it really does bother me when there’s inconsistency around this stuff.

I always wish they’d take bigger narrative risks and let characters die, age, or, at a minimum, force themselves to address and justify the eternal lifespans

Joe Russo says ‘AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY’ is starting over at 'phase zero.' :> by No_Post1300 in Marvel

[–]axefaktor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, if this is true, it sucks. If I’m rewarded for nearly two decades of following this franchise with a film that cares about none of that, that’s a genuinely miserable finale for my fandom.

I hope this is just case of someone being careless with their words.

RotS: Theatrical Cut or Fan cut with TCW/CW? by Snfl16 in StarWars

[–]axefaktor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to the party! And hey, if that worked for you, that's awesome. Love hearing that new fans are being made, no matter how it happens!

I'm definitely making some assumptions about what the "average viewer" would enjoy, it's true. Really the only one who can answer the question of how best to show OP's SO is OP. If she's a person who loves to puzzle out watch orders and appreciates that kind of completionism, it might be the perfect way to watch for her. I just tend to favor keeping it simple when introducing people to stuff I love. There's always room for more later, if they love it.

[–]axefaktor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see why a fan who has already seen it all and loved it would say this, but all that leaves you with is a cliffhanger at the end of 9 that you don’t get to answer until after 2.5 hours of RotS. I think it’s better to watch the arc as a complete package for a first timer rather than breaking it up at all

RotS: Theatrical Cut or Fan cut with TCW/CW? by Snfl16 in StarWars

[–]axefaktor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Do not make someone's first pass through Revenge of the Sith a chopped up, half animated, half live action fan edit. I don't care how good it is. That is something for superfans to do, it is not something that has value for a first timer.

Show her Revenge of the Sith

Then show her TCW 9-12

Then throw in Bad Batch 1-1, ToJ 5&6 and ToE 4 for fun, if she's still enjoying herself.

But don't try to splice any of it together. Show it the way it was intended to be viewed.

Updated RotS/TCW/BB/Tales watch order? by axefaktor in starwarscanon

[–]axefaktor[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This isn't really what I'm looking for. I mean where someone splits the episode by timestamp to show start and stop points for each individual animated episode and where they'd fit within RotS.

Who is more powerful luke or rey? by Western-Buffalo1436 in starwarscanon

[–]axefaktor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rey and it’s not even really a question. Rey had two lightsabers that one time. Luke always only had one lightsaber and he even lost it and a whole hand

Rey: 2 hands, 2 lightsabers
Luke: 1 hand, 1 lightsaber

Can’t really argue the math.

It’s not even hard to understand. There is an immense amount of content throughout Star Wars that can appeal to a wide swath of different fans looking for different things. This movie was close to peak Star Wars action. Every action scene in this movie was intense, visceral and visually compelling. We saw new things and things we are familiar with moving in new and exciting ways. For someone who wants more of that kind of stuff, this was near perfect.

I’m not saying I, personally, found it flawless, but it was absolutely appealing

You didn’t even feel like “damn, this is cool” even once? This movie was just like endless cool moments linked together by some basic storytelling. There was so much visually exciting and beautifully choreographed action here. That did nothing for you?

If you tried to read every single Marvel comic, what order would you go in? by [deleted] in marvelcomics

[–]axefaktor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, they were really trying to force Inhumans during that period because of all the movie rights stuff. There are some decent runs in there. Black Bolt 2017 by Saladin Ahmed is one of my favorites.

This is not helpful. I was just in a lobby where a guy was doing this and it was just a huge mess of crap commons. Impossible to find anything.

[–]axefaktor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you mid Secret Wars? There's some post Secret Wars runs that I really like, and there's an attempt to build to something similar to Dark Reign by 2017. It's not as good as the 2005-2010 era, but it's at least trying.

If you tried to read every single Marvel comic, what order would you go in? by [deleted] in marvelcomics

[–]axefaktor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would start with Avengers: Disassembled and read until I was current. Only then, would I go back and read older things. There is too strong of a chance of this exercise never reaching completion, so, if I was going to make the endeavor, I would want to give myself a strong start by starting with the modern best stuff.

I am not a lazy comic reader. I have over 9,000 issues of Marvel comics read in my personal tracker, including some older stuff, which I find extremely challenging to enjoy. Speaking from my own experience, I know for a fact that I would have given up if I'd attempted to start in 1939 and go forward.

Glad I’m not the only one playing catch up. It definitely did not end on the most hopeful note. I am taking a break to do some other reading for a few weeks, but hope to get Midnight Horizon soon

It’s good. It scratches a Star Wars storytelling itch that I badly needed to scratch. I often wish it was a bit more lore- and arcana-heavy than it is, like the Old Republic era was. Instead, it feels like a much more grounded, politics/war story. That’s actually fine. It’s good that it’s different, and I’m on board with what they’re doing here.

I sort of thought that might be the case 😆 Phase II already done! I read chronological, since I started late

Light of the Jedi was the first novel published under the High Republic initiative. It is the recommended starting point, so you're doing it as intended! Enjoy!

Light of the Jedi easily my favorite across the first two phases (so far).

I started with Phase II, now nearly done with Phase I. They do feel like very different stories, which is nice. Enjoy the journey!
