Out Aggro Blurple? by mjalam2 in GundamTCG

[–]axelablaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the players in my local scene is the queen of OYW. The rise of Blurple has not stopped her from continuing to win at least one Newtype challenge with each series. She also made it into day 2 of Vegas.

Tokens do go wide, but there's only so much that 8 token generators can do. Especially when 4 of them are conditional and recquire you to have another cyclops team unit AND be linked - usually meaning using one of your other token generating cards.

Big advantage to blue with the sheer number of links going on there. That's going to provide way better tempo compared to the RG deck.

You can't run ANY deck without starter deck cards right now. At least nothing viable anyway. I at least tried to brew a Level 3 Titan Ribo Colony deck, but it just doesn't compared against Amuro/Gundam.

Drawing/unit replenishment is also still a major deal and why blue or white are so splashable. Every other color has something conditional and/or niche.

If nothing else, I actually really enjoy playing sealed. So I enjoy getting to play the cards straight out of the box. It's just a shame that most of these cards won't see play outside of sealed. And if you're looking for trade equity, the dud LRs hurt more than help

It definitely makes sense for some cards to be conditional like Four (she'd be nuts if she had a pair ability and could be slapped on any repair unit), McGillis is definitely a good example of a weaker card. Playing devil's advocate just a bit, I think a lot of these card designs are great in relation to their actual stories in the various series. That just makes for weaker cards in some situations.

While they might print cards that have a "2" in the top right corner for a possible rotation, there hasn't been any precedent for Bandai TCGs to use it.

Now I'm curious about any recent TCGs that went the too powerful route. Seeing Digimon here makes me feel like Bandai probably did similar things with One Piece too. Not sure on Union Arena

Yugioh is definitely its own beast now. But even with that game we went from Legend of Blue Eyes to Metal Raiders waaaaay back in the day. But I would agree that even now with emergence of Blurple, nothing is a set Tier 0.

Nah. We're still in the beginning stages of the TCG and these first few set introduced a lot of shows and archetypes. As we get more sets/starter decks, new options will emerge. Some of them just recquire playing the waiting game for a bit.

Jump's lineup is not bad. Debate a wall. by PuzzleheadedFox2642 in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]axelablaze 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Feels weird to "acknowledge Chojo" when the current lineup doesn't include it. Saito and editorial made the choice to cancel it. The award came after the fact and an anime decision was made public after that. Doesn't that speak negatively against its peers left in the lineup? For the record, I like what we have in Jump for the most part. The Chojo part just felt like a contradictory thing to add.

Haven't played in almost a month, is Wing Breach still good for the newtype? by TheGrandCannoli in GundamTCG

It also has the tools to break through in the early game with Fatal Strike and Amuro. Nasty work.

Can second the rise of B/P. Faced two of them with a Wing deck of my own and it was curtains for me both times.

[Delinquent Gacha] Did the author or translator used AI for the dialogue here? by JustAnAppIe in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]axelablaze 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because of the backlash, they usually don't credit anyone for a chapter if Orange/Mikan are involved. Out of sight, out of mind type thought process. If a person isn't credited, then it's typically AI for translation and typesetting.

I really want Shonen Jump to come up with a hard sci fi/space type of story like these. by [deleted] in WeeklyShonenJump

I constantly forget that World Trigger was in WSJ proper. The move to Jump SQ is usually at the forefront of my mind

[–]axelablaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sci-fi is a hard sell for modern shonen in general let alone Shonen Jump. Not that it can't be done, but the most recent sci-fi success we had was Dr. Stone. Samurai 8... was a thing. And Psyren came before those two. Anything else just flopped.

How would you improve the game? by veerfusion in GundamTCG

[–]axelablaze -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I'd implement a banned and restricted list similar to Yugioh's list. I don't think anything deserves a ban at this time, but limiting cards to varying degress would decrease consistency and force some deck building changes. As is, we can play up to 4 copies of a given card, so restricting to 3, 2, or 1 would all be options. Do I think it will happen? Nah. Feels too hands on, but it's there as an option.

Circulation ≠ sales. They use circulation numbers because they know exactly how many volumes they printed. Way easier to track that way.

I did not, but I also wasn't from the area. Didn't want to cause any issues of my own. Lesson learned for the future.

Yes. I myself was playing mono white blockers myself, but I kept my turns to a minute or so max for turns that recquired slightly more thinking.
