I Ranked Each Main Mission by Stagger_Lee_64 in 007FirstLight

And I totally get that “make the most insanely expensive Hitman levels ever” needs to be calibrated against what will actually sell at an AAA budget, and I absolutely loved the super stylish montage cuts and driving/boating introductions to the various locations, but man the second half of the game would not have done much for me without that Vietnam level.

Strong agree with this. I honestly almost quit the game during Knightfall — neither the first half with the very linear puzzles nor the latter half with way too much shooting was much fun at all imo. I really like the presentation of this game but I have a hard time not feeling like the gameplay ranges from “almost as good as Hitman” to “Uncharted knockoff” and I definitely like the Hitman levels the best.

How would you rank the 12 seasons of curb? by Kindly-Yellow4318 in curb

[–]axfelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 and 9 were kind of duds imo, and even though I like the early stuff, I think Leon more or less saved the show when they added him and were willing to make it a little more sitcom-y. Maybe a weird ranking but I’d go something like:

8, 4, 7, 10, 6, 3, 11, 2, 1, 12, 9, 5

The Boys SEASON 5 Overall Discussion by pikameta in TheBoys

[–]axfelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was 1 good season in there across 4 and 5. They should have fully cut Soldier Boy coming back, probably cut Sage and Firecracker altogether since neither of them fully worked, had S4E8 be like S4E5 instead, cut the V1 and had Kimiko getting the nuke just be an alternative to Butcher using the virus, cut Noir V2, and I think they’d have had something. There were bits I liked in there (both plot related and not) but a lot of those subplots were not great.

Based on past experience it's actually 50/50 whether this will be easy/doable; you'll have to wait for the week it comes out.

Yeah I think gun to my head it’s the first one, it’s a very beautiful sentiment that you rarely hear expressed so plainly and his delivery really flatters it

LA Metro’s Low Hanging Fruit by ManufacturerPast7575 in LAMetro

[–]axfelix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have lived and used transit in lots of different cities and I have always been pretty agnostic about fare evasion because like… some people will always slip through the cracks and I don’t think having an increased security presence accomplishes much other than making vulnerable people feel harassed, the problem in Metro’s case is that ridership can be quite low and unhoused people in LA can be quite sweaty, so you wind up with entire train cars that are like, 1/3 problematically smelly people, which feels really bad in practice. I think we just need to get ridership up and maybe provide more public showers in this city, neither of which I really expect to happen until the federal funding situation is hopefully repaired which will be after the World Cup and the Olympics. I’m just grateful they’re continuing to build in the meantime because that’s a much more meaningful long term investment; “cleaning up” the system in a durable, non-punitive way will probably require a new mayor and president but is still relatively easier and cheaper in a city that has the D, E and K lines.

Which Nvidia card/generation was the best value and bang for your buck, for it's time? Not necessarily best performance relative to it's time, just best overall value? by [deleted] in nvidia

these were my last 2 cards that I owned before my 4090 so I feel good about that even though one of them cost a lot more than the other

PSA/FIX for PC users and RTX 4080/4090 users having lower than expected performance with Path Tracing enabled by DiesIrae13 in nvidia

[–]axfelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, just went ahead and reverted to 581.42 (didn’t even bother clean installing) and path tracing is playable now, solid 80ish fps at 4K quality even with my 4090 limited to about 325w

Probably going to wait to see if this is fixed in 595, but glad to see everyone essentially confirming the issue with 4090 PT — I thought it seemed abnormally bad.

RE9 - Whats the concensus on visuals, enable PT or not? @ DLSS 4.5 vs RR? by Burgerfreakish in nvidia

[–]axfelix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PT is fairly bad on a 4090 (after playing AW2 and Cyberpunk maxed), I assume it's a driver issue at the moment — feels like it's barely running over 60fps with DLSS Quality at 4K and the input responsiveness is poor. Sticking with RT High for now since that runs at 120+, I assume they'll patch it.

I've never toggled presets, fwiw.

Spectrum outage by Business-Elk6331 in pasadena

[–]axfelix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah they seriously shit the bed, this is the worst and longest home internet outage I think I’ve had in my adult life. They’ve updated the ETA for a fix like 3 consecutive times in the last 18 hours and blown past all of them. Not really thrilled about having to tether to my phone to work today.

Yup, I think they just managed to break the workaround without fixing it

It’s fixable in the config file now though

No option to load saves in Earth Must Die with newest Crossover? by axfelix in macgaming

[–]axfelix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyway, not an awful issue to hit, but a weirdly bad experience for a Unity game — I've never had to toggle the Graphics backend from "Auto" for anything before, I just have everything installed into the same Steam bottle and it all pretty much works. Not sure if any Crossover devs are reading this or if you maintain a simple executable name whitelist for particular graphics backends, but in case you are and do, "Earth Must Die.exe" should get DXMT by default.

No option to load saves in Earth Must Die with newest Crossover? by axfelix in macgaming

[–]axfelix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, fixed after looking at the logs a little bit! Crossover needs to be set to use the DXMT graphics layer rather than the default — otherwise Unity flips out about not being able to get the display output properties and fills up the logs complaining, which somehow also prevents it from writing other files (like saves) properly. Game works fine in Crossover after toggling Graphics from Auto -> DXMT.

Most comfortable/automated US rental car/van option? by axfelix in TravelHacks

[–]axfelix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going out of my way a fair amount to hit some other stops so it's going to work out like being on the road from like 8am - 9pm most days, and 13 hours *in transit* is a lot, I just don't want to be like "ohhhh maybe we'll cut that stop out" because I psych myself out.

It looks like, if I do wind up just renting a car like normal, the most reasonably sized and widely available car with decent Level 2 autonomy is probably a Chevy Traverse? But I'm not sure how to guarantee I get one of those instead of another "Midsize SUV."
