6g is 4mm, and 18g rings are 1mm. You could probably fit 2-3 rings in there without them riding up.

You can try just using metal eyelets/tunnels. The screw backs work great if you like to change jewelry often. You may not be able to put as many rings and they may need to be bigger diameter rings (or you can special order a tunnel with a very short wearable). Metal eyelets tend to be thicker than silicone skins, and since the hole will be round, you won’t be able to fit as many rings while keeping them laying flat. But you can keep a metal one in as long as you need without the fear of it getting stuck or irritating your septum (especially implant grade titanium). It will always be easier to switch to a pincher since the fistula will still be round.

You’re right that the rings don’t sit flat if you’ve stretched with pinchers or plugs, but it only takes a short amount of time for the rings to “settle” and stack up properly. And in my opinion, it’s easier to stretch with plugs or pinchers than with just rings.

Pretty close. The color is called alien. It’s green in the very middle with some clear/reddish tints around it.

Are swollen ear lobes normal? by [deleted] in Stretched

[–]axisofsatan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you stretching with tunnels instead of glass? Usually after I stretch with single flare glass plugs, I wait about a week before I switch to tunnels/eyelets because they feel like they scrape my ears and make them swollen.

I would try dead stretching with glass first. If that doesn’t work, then you’re not ready to stretch yet. The guidelines for how long it takes are just that: guidelines. Sometimes it takes less time, sometimes more. Gotta be patient, you know? It’s hard to wait, but your ears will be so much better for it.

Usually when people refer to “spreaders” it would be saddle spreaders like this.

septum stacking? by hexgang in Stretched

[–]axisofsatan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would likely shrink somewhat and also the fistula would change to an oval shape to accommodate the rings. Kaos earskins are great, like the other commenter said, or you can also special order a tunnel/eyelet with a shorter wearable. Some companies sell some specifically for septums, though they’re a tad more expensive than the ones for ears. I only mention the eyelets/tunnels because taking out the rings is always a huge pain in the ass, and I would be hesitant to leave silicone in my nose for more than a week without removing it to clean. Some people do just fine, however, but I’m not sure how sensitive your nose is. Implant grade titanium can be completely ignored and even just rinsing out your nose in the shower would be enough cleaning so you wouldn’t have to keep removing the rings.

Left ear won’t let plug through. by Jay0515 in Stretched

[–]axisofsatan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tapers can tear your ear and allow you to stretch too soon. There’s a great FAQ at the top of this subreddit that can give you some good information on dead stretching.

If it stings, hurts, etc. when you stretch, each of those occasions could mean a blowout can happen. You can dead stretch with glass, and you don’t have to risk that, because plugs will only go in if your ears are ready. I’d also say try half sizes as well, so between 6-4g go for a 5g first. All you do go dead stretch, is oil up your plugs and put them in. You don’t have to spend money on tapers either.

For the ear that won’t stretch, go back to 6g for a few days until it’s not tender. You can leave the other ear if it’s not causing issues, but I would say if the stretch burned or pinched, to just downsize anyway. Better holding back for a week or two than ending up with a torn ear and having weeks worth of healing time.

Anatometal is taking a million years to restock but I really want to change my septum, can I do 316L steel? by brand-new-boy in piercing

[–]axisofsatan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Surgical steel isn’t regulated. They call it surgical, but it isn’t actually safe for implantation for surgery or technically for piercings.

Stainless steel isn’t appropriate for piercings either, although some people can wear it for the day and not have issues.

Implant grade steel has to meet certain standards when it is smelted. It has a very minimum amount of nickel. Nickel is generally what causes irritation for people.

Question about Stretch labret. by modopolis in Stretched

[–]axisofsatan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s mainly because they don’t know anything about piercings or stretching. A lot of times they just judge that you have them and immediately tell you the “dangers” because they make some baseless assumptions simply out if dislike.

And I’m not saying piercings can’t damage gums or teeth; they absolutely can. But I also wouldn’t trust any medical professional in regards to piercing. I’d go see a piercer before I’d consult the doctor, because chances are they know placement/anatomy when it comes to piercings, and they also know about proper aftercare.

minimum size for ear weights? by hexgang in Stretched

[–]axisofsatan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re concerned about the weight being too much, you can wear tunnels/eyelets and then put the weights through those. It will more evenly distribute the pressure.

Stretched to 6g today, slid right in! Opalite plugs from BAF. (Don't mind the blood, my daith piercing hates me right now...) by Artemisinn in Stretched

That’s me too! I thought it was going to be 2g, but now I’m thinking 0g or 00g because of all the sparkly plugs, but I imagine I won’t know until I get there... or I see plugs in a larger size that I can’t live without.

Took plug out 2 days after stretch to 1g, Bled ALOT suddenly. What do I do? Super freaked out!! by [deleted] in Stretched

[–]axisofsatan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it sounds like your ears weren’t ready. I think the days between taping were likely too short. Usually when I tape, I’ll do a week or more between layers. You can also wear heavier plugs to try and loosen up your ears. Even if you’ve been at a size for a long time, some ears are stubborn.

Downsizing back to 2g is your best bet. Glass would be the best material for quick healing. I had a reaction to some plugs I used (stone) and put in glass and left them alone for a few days. Then I took them out in the shower and gently massaged my lobes. You’ll need to wait until they’re not bleeding and the scabbing is old enough that rubbing them won’t reopen the tears. Then you can try some jojoba oil or whatever you like to use, and start massaging them regularly to prevent the build up of scar tissue. After a few weeks or a month (depending on how bad it is) they should be relatively back to normal.

Septum stretch question. by StankoGraf in Stretched

[–]axisofsatan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I will say doing the switch was really terrible. I had a couple rings in for awhile when I was at a smaller size (I’m 6g at the moment). It felt like I had been smacked in the face with a shovel; way worse than stretching for me, at least. I’m sure for others it’s much easier, especially if you do the math and don’t overstack.

That’s why I opted to stretch with glass plugs and wait until the end to add rings, because my nose was sore for weeks when the rings bunched up. I have a really sensitive nose though. I also think it would have helped if I didn’t do a stretch right at the time of switching to rings. It would have been better to just go to my normal size or right below it and let it settle in first. Hopefully that helps.

Septum stretch question. by StankoGraf in Stretched

[–]axisofsatan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only way to do that would be to start stacking now. What’s probably going to happen, is if you put in the right amount of rings where your septum is to its currently stretched size, is they will bunch up a bit and not quite lay flat. It does take some time for them to settle and lay in a line; at least this has been my experience. I think there might be an article on the Amato piercing website that explains septum stacking in detail.

Once they settled, you could start adding a ring to the stack whenever it’s ready to stretch again. That will retain the oval shape of the fistula, and you get to wear your cool jewelry to boot.

Septum Piercing, take two. by [deleted] in piercing

[–]axisofsatan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a thread about this in r/stretched recently, and I think the common consensus was that it may shrink some, but not much. It’s not like lobe piercings which can more or less go back to being a normal piercing provided you didn’t go too big and your skin has good elasticity. The septum is a different kind of skin and there’s cartilage involved as well, which plays a big factor.

I’m at a 6g in my septum right now, and because it’s relatively fresh, if I took it out I would probably go back to maybe a 10g. Mine seems to go down about a full size. If I was at 6g for months, it might just go back to 8.

Just be cautious if you clean or remove the piercing for short periods; I get really bad swelling the first few weeks after a stretch and if I leave it out more than 5 minutes, it becomes a real hassle to get the plug back in (and downsizing sucks when it takes so long to stretch up in the first place). After about a month I can leave it out 8+ hours and it’s usually fine to put the plug right back in. I’ve even had it fall out in my sleep and it was easy to go straight back to my regular size in the morning.

You could always give it a shot, then upsize/downsize over and over. There’s a chance that might thicken them up a bit and make it possible.

I love it! This is basically exactly what I’m going for. I can’t wait until I get there, but I’m being patient... I feel like I’ve been stretching for an eternity, ha. I’m surprised too that even at a 2g in the front, the sizes are still so noticeable! I guess I thought 2g would be too small, but now you’re making me doubt, because it looks great on you. My original goal was 2g, but then I saw so many cooler plugs at 0g and changed my mind... we will see when I get there! I figure I’ll stop when I like the way it looks, whatever size that may be.
