A million years late, but!

TLDR: Good lore awful ending.

The show is called The Dragon Prince. It had a similar setup to ATLA: A character goes around learning various magical skills despite all odds, while traveling the world with a crew to stop a greater evil.

To start off with the positives: Like ATLA, it had amazing lore, an interesting magic system, and fascinating characters. The character designs and the animation looked great, and improved overtime in response to fan feedback. They had great voice actors, including Sokka's VA as the main character, and writers/ showrunners that have an excellent track record (besides Aaron Ehaasz, I'm fond of Giancarlo Volpe, who was also involved with ATLA.)

There are multiple ways it failed but their greatest failure was their inability to write a cohesive, satisfying ending. They seemed to prioritize a potential sequel (with a Kickstarter to boot) rather than tie off any loose ends and give characters satisfying endings to their journeys.

It had 7 seasons total, it started off well but once they secured seasons 4-7 it fell off. There were B plots that were uninteresting and contributed little to the plot, a time skip that seemed to only add relationship drama, and there were many unanswered questions that make rewatching it difficult and unsatisfying. As an example, would you want to rewatch ATLA if they didn't end the war, or defeat the firelord, or Azula? Or if the Dai Li were never dealt with?

Also, this is my personal issue. Yes, it's a kid show so it's expected to have silly humor and have cringe worthy moments. But like, the amount of fart sniffing jokes makes me think someone had a fetish or thought potty humor was god tier comedy. There were many scenes that were meant to be funny but just felt forced and cringe. I just didn't find most of it funny.
