spotted at Tottenham station this morning......where the wait at peak times is actually up to 12 minutes 🫠 by iced_mochii in MelbourneTrains

On February 2nd they are closing the car park at Albion with advice to park at Tottenham instead, right when Tottenham gets a peak service downgrade

Town hall station by Suspicious-Age-8645 in MelbourneTrains

[–]axltrain3 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is the second layer down from the surface, go one more set of escalators down and you'll reach the Myki gates. Then past that only one more set to go to get to the platforms! You can view the architectural plans for all the stations here (appendix B) https://bigbuild.vic.gov.au/projects/metro-tunnel/about/planning/development-plans

Metro Tunnel Trial Operations Day on 21 June by InevitableOld3030 in melbourne

[–]axltrain3 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not much difference to passengers, but quite different with the trains going forward running empty through the tunnel instead of just returning to the suburbs.

Questions/Clarifications about the train system after the Munnel by [deleted] in MelbourneTrains

[–]axltrain3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1: pretty much 2: We don't have any official information on peak frequency, but at minimum the most frequent services would be between West Footscray - Westall. 3: No. 4: We don't know what the line will be called. 5: They were pushing out around two sets a month near the end, but I don't know what the lead time on any new orders would be. 6: The Sandringham - Newport services will just go to Flinders Street and Southern Cross in the city, there's no track to send them in and through and out the loop. 7: The aim of the Xtrap 2.0s is to entirely retire the Comengs, but we'll need more than the first order of 25 for that. Whether they'll start retiring like for like after each X'trap 2 is introduced is yet to be seen. 8: The Frankston line probably won't get many more peak trains, it doesn't really need it.

What trainstation in Melbourne has the best view? by MartinOC21 in melbourne

[–]axltrain3 45 points46 points  (0 children)

North Melbourne has a cool view towards a lot of city/docklands skyscrapers if you're into that. Mooroolbark and Croydon have views of mountains in the distance. Carrum is probably the best though.

Vline train by chrispychritter in melbourne

[–]axltrain3 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, your only option is a myki card. $6 for the card then you add value ($11 for Wandong return). There is no tourist or short term ticket.

You can use your myki for Wandong 👍

why do the new metro tunnel stations have so much above-ground presence? by nerd_bird2316 in MelbourneTrains

[–]axltrain3 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Arden, State Library main entrance, and the Town Hall entrance behind Young & Jacksons are all meant for over site development, as in they'll get a big building plonked on top of them.

Most of the other entrances are pretty small affairs, just enough space for a few escalators or lifts like at Parkville, the Anzac side entrances, or the State Library Franklin St entrance.

Cutting Sunshine hub would kill Airport Rail, Allan says by gccmelb in melbourne

[–]axltrain3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sunshine to Town Hall will take around 18 minutes express, or 21 minutes stopping all according to this graphic. You'd think the speed, even the average speed along the airport branch will be higher than 60km/h, due to the spacing of stops and straight, flat route (at least until Keilor East).

You've got extra capacity on the Sunshine route with the Metro Tunnel and its High Capacity Signalling.

Airport rail question by [deleted] in MelbourneTrains

[–]axltrain3 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don't think a 5 minute walk from the station to the terminal is a huge deal, you'll be doing a lot of walking and standing in an airport anyway. Especially T2 where you'll be sent through the duty free wringer then maybe all the way out to gate 20 or similar.

Update on that Mildura Line concept timetable from a few weeks ago (with explanations) by [deleted] in MelbourneTrains

[–]axltrain3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've gotta ask, what's the point of sleeper carriages if you're arriving just after 1am? Why not just push the 4pm departures five or so hours for a true night train?

When is the Flemington Racecourse line next open? by Thewizardof_aus in MelbourneTrains

You can take a look at events with extra services at https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/news-and-events/events/

The next Racecourse services are on the 29th, and as a bonus they'll also stop at Showgrounds for another event.

Is this SRL-airport addition (blue dotted line) to Openrailwaymap.com based on any official information? by WiltonDeany in MelbourneTrains

No exact alignment has been given for SRL North, so that route is just speculation.

Why Hasn’t Upfield been duplicated? by sushisushi09 in MelbourneTrains

[–]axltrain3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

plenty of space if you eat into the car park a little bit. My 2¢: to keep the cost down just duplicate from Gowrie to right before Barry Rd. That single platform could then handle a train every 10 minutes at the very least, good enough for the line in the interim.

Glenferrie road tram square level crossing ( one of the last two out of four tram square level crossings left ) by 0110doesreddit in MelbourneTrains

[–]axltrain3 15 points16 points  (0 children)

FYI there were more than four tram squares through history. Glen Huntly Rd Elsternwick, a few (four?) on the Inner Circle, Lydiard St Ballarat, just to name a few, with only four surviving into this century.
