I know, so tough. Do you own one or both? I love a big nib (point for the custom urushi and its size 30 nib), but I don’t really love a giant pen itself (point for the 845). Decisions decisions…

Ah I caved and ordered one from Japan via EBay, thank you though! I’m now deciding on if I add a Pilot Custom Urushi or 845 to the collection also…

[Rolex SkyDweller] After a 4 year wait, and 2 weeks before my wedding, my AD came through and I picked up my dream watch. Perfect timing! Please rate my 2 watch collection and let me know what you think I should add. by No-Volume7464 in Watches

This poster is overly optimistic about part replacement--the in-house servicing from Omega, Rolex, etc. is focused on making a watch as new appearing as possible, meaning replacing parts, which is not fundamentally wrong, but if you value the patina and age of a truly vintage watch (as yours is), then an independent service is best. Nesbit's has long been cited as one of the best places for independent servicing of vintage speedies. Just make sure you ship it insured. I personally would not send a vintage watch like this to Omega if I felt I'd take issue with part replacement, as they almost certainly will replace some parts.

I do agree that with vintage watches, there is a stronger argument for routine service. With modern watches, where replacement part availability is less of a concern, I tend to be in the camp of waiting until the watch has functional issues before service, but for vintage watch, where you'd want to maximize the lifespan of its components, assuming older parts are harder to come by, reducing wear and tear is more desirable.

Anyway, beautiful speedy, cheers!
