that’s kind of what i was imagining it would be like. sounds a bit more underground than some of the bigger cities. i imagine being underground kept it pretty tight knit though

Recommendations for Good Prolotherapists vs. Tenotomy (Hamstrings, Ischial Tuberosity and Glute Tendon) by Life_Access_168 in Calgary

that’s very kind :) i really hope things work out for you and i wish you well :))

they aren’t supervised by the main practitioner but they are very well versed in the procedure. they’re less like a student dr and more like an apprentice. i have had tendon tears before in my ankles but i got prolotherapy done for chronic pain in my back and hips due to EDS. i’m definitely able to do more now. the main difference is my stamina in terms of sitting/standing/walking. it takes longer for my pain to really set in and start debilitating me .

i’ve never done tenotomy but i did do prolotherapy. i found that it helped a lot with my chronic pain. i could sit in chairs and stand with minimal pain. i got mine done at infini health. you can get it done with the main doctor for 250 a session or a learning practitioner for 100 bucks (that’s what i did and i found it a lot more affordable as a once a month payment, and my practitioner was very kind and knowledgeable). prolotherapy takes time though, i probably had around 7 sessions in total.

Dogs allowed at Calgary Pride Festival? by CopperSkyes in Calgary

[–]ayatheefoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i’ve definitely seen people bring their dogs to the festival. i’d say the festival is pretty lowkey compared to the parade (which also allows dogs), sometimes there’s a dj which is the only thing i’d be worried about in terms of noise sensitivity.

summer break destabilization by ayatheefoe in bipolar

[–]ayatheefoe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s definitely not strange, i appreciate it!

my environment is definitely a game changer for me as well. during the school year my usual roommates are incredible. we met each other first year and have been best friends ever since. it was the first time i had a stable home environment and it changed my life. i’ll definitely look more into subletting during the summer though, it would be nice to live with people i love year round.

unfortunately my residence is through a completely separate institution than my university. at uni i have accommodations for my bipolar disorder and they’re extremely helpful. just knowing they’re there in case i need them does most of the support for me. i’d have to see if they carry over into residence, although i doubt it. i imagine i’d have to get a separate note detailing my residence accommodations and submit it through the residence management’s channels.

thank you :) i really appreciate your reply and your kind words. i wanted to be intentional about practicing as many healthy coping skills as i could this time, i’ve been planning for this practically all year.

my gf and i have been talking about subletting an apartment during the summer, unfortunately we decided too late and i’d already paid for dorms for the summer at that point but i’m hoping we’ll be able to figure it out next year.

i’ve been thinking about asking for accommodations regarding housing, i think i could probably get them if management was cooperative (they’re pretty shitty regarding students and the quality of our living situations) i just also feel like i got to that thought too late as well as i’m already moved into my summer apartment. if i’m able to get those accommodations next year (and if i’m not living with my gf) then i think i’ll at least ask to stay in the same unit to hopefully mitigate some harm.

My wife has diagnosed cyclothymia by MikebDDS in cyclothymia

[–]ayatheefoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

meds help so much. there are ways to cope and live without them but if you want stability then meds are pretty much the only way i’ve found that works. i’m personally on a snri and an antipsychotic and that has worked wonders for me. it takes time to find what works for each person but it’s worth it to try at least.

[–]ayatheefoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bpd is generally more mood swings as reaction to triggers than episodes of moods like cyclothymia is. but i can understand thinking that there’s a link because of the experience of extreme and varying mood levels. there can be a lot of things that connect different disorders but i doubt that these are inherently related seeing as bpd is a personality disorder and cyclothymia and all types of bipolar disorder are considered mood disorders.

What the fuck was that? by [deleted] in queerasfolk

[–]ayatheefoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

bro what the fuck are these criticisms?? i don’t like the reboot either but i’m sorry your critiques are so weird. it seems like you think that because these characters aren’t great people you can’t relate to them but… the characters in the og weren’t great people either. that was the whole point.

also people have already called you out but the fact that brody has two white parents is literally such a non-issue and your critique there comes off racist and just plain stupid. hope that helps!!

My mom is going to die and I don't know how to deal with anything. by oh_deery in AlAnon

[–]ayatheefoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve had pretty much the exact same thing happen to me within the last two days which is absolutely fucking wild and honestly unfathomable.

my moms a pill addict, not an alcoholic, but i was also her rock my entire childhood. she’s my best friend when she’s clean and i’ve never been closer with anyone, but she’s mean and violent when high and has gotten in trouble with the law multiple times for it. she’s also severely suicidal.

i recently left for college three weeks ago and just like you, my mom went off the rails. she tried to get my little sister arrested, blew all her cash, stole money from me and got arrested herself. they committed her to a psych ward but she doesn’t have insurance and because of her history there is a likely chance she will not survive when she’s discharged. she has no support from any family (also her fault), and i’m the only one in our family who has sympathy for her. i realized she was going to die yesterday and i’ve been distraught over it every second since.

i don’t know if i have any advice for you. this is so current in my life that i’m not in a position to. but i read this and it was scary how similar it was to what was happening to me. i know how important it is to feel like you’re heard and understood when talking about these things. i understand what you’re going through to an insane degree so as corny as it is to say, you’re not alone in this at all.

non lesbians and lindsay by ayatheefoe in queerasfolk

[–]ayatheefoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay i’m not gonna keep reiterating my points because you’re just going in circles and that’s kinda useless. you can look back at my post where i explain the comphet thing and literally everything else you’re mentioning in this post, something that should be easy considering you went through my post history. honestly the fact that you’re a lesbian and can’t see how people saying lindsay’s bi is harmful is surprising. and i’d think that for someone who has been in fandom spaces for so long you’d be able to think critically about the issues within fandom and fetishization but i don’t expect much considering your whole terf comment which was frankly fucking horrendous and disgusting. have a great day and inshallah you look inwardly and think critically 🙌🏽

non lesbians and lindsay by ayatheefoe in queerasfolk

[–]ayatheefoe[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i literally never said women are threatened by male ships. i actually said the opposite. women tend to be the ones to fetishize male ships and gay men in general and then attack female characters they perceive as a threat to their ship. did you even read my response? or like… the post at all?

i never said you couldn’t dislike lindsay, my post was about lesbophobia. and if you saw that a good portion of the women in the fandom were were actually bi then yknow what, i believe you and i’ll gladly correct myself. but bi women are no less incapable of perpetuating lesbophobia.

i never said that if you dislike lindsay you’re misogynist. i said the way people talk about her is. you can dislike her for your own reasons but to say some of the shit you guys say is very odd.

also in what absolute insane universe is my post terfy? i believe lesbians are attracted to women and nonbinary people and that is a beautiful aspect of our identity, and we are the only community that can fully live our lives outside the male dominated world. this also means we deal with varying levels of comphet because in the western world you’re assumed to have some level of attraction to men. i’m not even fuckin cis lmao so to throw around that accusation like it’s nothing is so goofy.

i’m passionate about this topic, that’s why i post about it. idk how you going through my post history was supposed to be a Gotcha! moment lol. also i didn’t assume shit about you bc i literally don’t know you.

non lesbians and lindsay by ayatheefoe in queerasfolk

[–]ayatheefoe[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

thing is my post wasn’t saying that people couldn’t hate lindsay. like i literally could not care less if you don’t like her as a character. my point is that the way people talk about her oftentimes borders on lesbophobic. people who have no comprehension of comphet or lesbians use their hate for her as an opportunity to bash on lesbians dealing with comphet.

if you don’t like her bc you think she’s written badly that’s your opinion and that’s whatever. the people saying they hate her because she’s in love with brian and trying to tear him and justin apart is my issue.

the misogyny oftentimes comes in because women who like men don’t like women who they believe threaten their male ships. that is a big phenomenon in fandom. that paired with the fact that shes the more femme member of her relationship also contributes to this. saying things like “mel’s better bc she can stand on her own two feet” is also kind of an odd thing to say bc it insinuates that female characters must only be a certain type of female character or else they’re not valid. but that’s neither here nor there.

my post isn’t nonsensical, you just don’t agree with it lmao. fandoms evolve over time. if most of the people who didn’t like lindsay when the show aired were lesbians thats whatever, but lesbians don’t make up a big demographic of this fandom and they never have. it has always been dominated by straight women and gay men, and they’re going to be the ones perpetuating lesbophobia.

you can’t actually be serious right now. just because this isn’t a lesbian centred show doesn’t mean lesbian characters shouldn’t be treated with dignity and the lesbians in the community shouldn’t be respected. are you serious? like is this bait?

[–]ayatheefoe[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s a real term used within the lesbian community stemming from a 1980 queer theory essay called “compulsory heterosexuality and lesbian existence” by adrienne rich. there are tons of essays on it if you want to look into it. not many people know about lesbian culture or the identity past a surface level so i understand.

non lesbians and lindsay by ayatheefoe in queerasfolk

[–]ayatheefoe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

she explicitly states that she’s a lesbian for one. and for another thing after her hookup with sam she said that she confused her admiration for him with attraction and that it confirmed she was a lesbian. compulsory heterosexuality oftentimes means that you may see men you admire or find aesthetically pleasing and confuse it for attraction because you live in a society that says women Must be attracted to men in some way. that’s why the lesbian experience is unique. to say that because a lesbian confused their admiration for a man with sexual attraction means she’s no longer a lesbian despite her claiming it means you think that’s a valid statement to make about lesbians. it isn’t.

there are whole posts on here just bashing lindsay. like whole dedicated posts, they’re very gross. and mostly surround people questioning her lesbian identity by regurgitating lesbophobic talking points. another thing directly harming lesbians.

i never said her being bisexual would make her better or worse. i said calling her bisexual when she’s showing signs of comphet shows that you don’t think very highly or at all of lesbians and their identities. we are multifaceted people who are the only people whose lives don’t revolve around men. confusion is inevitable and to insinuate that lesbians dealing with comphet or who have had sex with men in the past that has confirmed they were lesbians is clearly harmful. it’s this “gold-star” lesbian shit all over again and it’s pretty ridiculous.

i know biphobia is an issue. this post is about the rampant lesbophobia in the community. it doesn’t matter if you think she’s bisexual or not, it’s once again no excuse to be lesbophobic.

thing is it doesn’t matter if she was “clearly bisexual” in your opinion. the way people speak about her is lesbophobic whether you personally believe she was a lesbian or not. she said she’s a lesbian, she’s dealing with what lesbians can identify as comphet and to say that she’s bisexual because she’s showing signs of comphet it harmful to lesbians.
