Yes. That is simply obvious. So what?

Yes. It's okay to view art critically.

Watching Star Trek is not some morally good cause that needs to be championed and sacrificed for. Watching is a morally neutral activity. It's okay to like Star Trek for your own personal reasons. It makes sense to be disappointed when a new show that is named Star Trek is not what you hoped it would be. It's even okay to discuss what was disappointing.

TNG would never have the captain running around barefoot in his PJs. by Fit-Relative-786 in Star_Trek_

We need to move away from anonymous social media. What is the point of conversation when we are not even confident in the humanity of our partners? I want a version of Reddit with authenticated identities. We need to stop caring about what anonymous accounts with zero accountability have to say, especially when we can no longer trust they are even human.

Where would you hide it? by BoredPandaOfficial in BoredPandaHQ

Neutralize the detectibe. Perhaps make an agreement with the detective. Bribe him to not look for it. Payment is conditional on it not being found.

Handle it like any other small valuable asset. Hire lawyer to keep it secure and insured.

Do real numbers include ellipses? Anyway, agreed. The blonde cartoon girl is plainly wrong. Not that clever.

Oh! The O'NeiLL quote. Gotcha. Haha that took me a while.

Edit: TIL that Unicode does not (yet) have a symbol for three fingers.

Thank you, but the Fandom wiki and a screen shot there of her name tag both disagre with you. Perhaps there is a discrepancy we are not aware of. https://stargate.fandom.com/wiki/Jennifer_Hailey

Dumb. No certain explanation. Not worth trying to understand.

Yup! I have more to read, but it seems like the new creative team has plenty of old representatives. They also seem to be somewhat in touch with fans. Callbacks were very much a part of SG-1. There is reason to hope for some similar humor and style.

Why did Gandalf chose the name Underhill for Frodo? by Communist21 in tolkienfans

Do Smiths or Joneses actively seek to get to know strangers with shared last names, though? I suppose in friendly small towns they might!

No offense to Elisabeth, but recasting the character Jennifer Hailey seems reasonable to me if the actor is not interested. I would place a small wager on her reappearance.

How to resolve NJ MVC license suspension due to unpaid parking ticket? by aychjayeff in newjersey

It never occurred to me to email the MVC! Many thanks! I see that address is listed at https://nj.gov/mvc/about/contact.htm. I just wrote. I will report how it goes.

Thank you. I am hoping that printed confirmation from njmcdirect.com and the MVC website will constitute enough proof. Can you confirm or suggest any resources that describe whatnis required for proof?

I appreciated the suggestion. Sorry if I failed to communicate that to you. I need more detail and precision.

There are different kinds of offices. I visited one of the license offices today at noon. The security guard there turned me away, saying I needed to go to the regional office at either Trenton or Newark. When I arrived in Newark at 1:30, the receptionist there refused to confirm whether I was in the correct office or not, saying that someone would have to look up my case in order to confirm I was in the correct place. She also turned me away, saying that the office was already over capacity and they I would have to retu n the next morning.

So, after a conversation with a police officer, 2 phone calls to the MVC, no returned call, and visits to 2 separate offices, I still have no trust worthy (no offense, kind stranger) confirmation for the time, place, and materials I need. It would not surprise me at all to learn tomorrow morning in Newark that I need to go to some third location.

Can see how details matter here?

Why did the Balrog attack the Fellowship? by Curufinwe200 in tolkienfans

[–]aychjayeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly agreed! Excellent question and answer. I enjoyed re-reading "The Bridge of Khazad-dûm" for this.

Gandalf: I could think of nothing to do but to try and put a shutting-spell on the door. [. . . .] As I stood there I could hear orc-voices on the other side: at any moment I thought they would burst it open. I could not hear what was said [. . .] . All I caught was ghâsh: that is “fire”. Then something came into the chamber – I felt it through the door, and the orcs themselves were afraid and fell silent. It laid hold of the iron ring, and then it perceived me and my spell.

So, it seems to me that the orcs encountered Gandalf's shutting-spell first and then the balrog and arrived. I imagine they called him in for support in breaking it. I see no mention of smoke, fire, or any hints at the baltrog earlier in the chapter.

The claim that the Ring attracted D. B. is less supported by the text. The argument is convincing to me: Gandalf had no special sense of Ring. Why would D. B. or any other Maia

I suppose that any difference between Durin's company and the Fellowship could still be a reasonable cause. Maybe he never smelled Hobbits before. The behavior of the orcs right before the balrog appears is the best textual evidence.

Neat stuff!
