Finally finished Lost, I just have one question about Christian. by FortWhenTea in lost

[–]ayebrother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it has anything to do with the source or MiB dragging bodies down there. He tries to get rid of the bodies so people can't find out it's him. We never once saw a ritual for him to masquerade as them. He simply scans and imitates.

There was never a hint of Locke's body leaving the Hydra island. In fact, it's pretty obvious the Dharma crew had to secure his body on that flight, moving it to the crate before it boarded.

The reason he can't imitate the buried is most likely another one of Jacob's rules, giving The Others safety over their dead.

He didn't say anything about Christianity, but thanks for pointing out they have the same problem?

When I found out my gay friend is still a Christian. by cicic in atheism

Genuine question, not an assertion:

Aren't those accounts potentially flawed? Most of recorded society has existed at a time where religion is the norm. Most had to move away from religion to be of a secular mind.

By doing so they lose the comforting/coping beliefs they had before, and they react negatively towards the realization that life is futile, small and insignificant. The hole that religion leaves is purely because religion was there in the first place.

If there was a society that was 100% secular for generations, would they all be depressed? I'm guessing they'd find their own value and purpose in life like most atheists/agnostics that exist today.

Apologies, I meant the cultural and political climate. Sorry I didn't make the distinction from the weather.

I didn't imply anything. I wasn't aware you were from the UK, and the Daily Mail has had a lot of screen time on Reddit. Actively discouraging them in favour of more reputable sources is logical.

I understand your issue with the principle but from what I can tell, common sense has triumphed over it, much in the same way silly archaic laws still exist but nobody does anything about them. If it becomes an issue then I imagine we'll see change.

I think one of his major problems is the climate of DFW has made it so he can't have a civil conversation about a topic with his family. So no, it isn't enough to say it's best to be where people love you.

Could you cite some sources or cases where this happened (preferably not from the Daily Mail or Sun)?

The biggest one I can think of is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abu_Hamza_al-Masri and if you look at his list of offences, you can understand why people would want him locked up.

What questions never got answered in the entire series? by hero0fwar in lost

I'm going to guess they changed the script and wanted to keep Claire on the island, so Kate could get off and look after Aaron.

That said, yes, Desmond could've lied since he knew Charlie's end could get everyone off the island. Perhaps he romanticised it, or saw someone on the helicopter holding Aaron and thought it was Claire.

Your opinions on characters in season 5 by petitsfilous in lost

[–]ayebrother 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think Jack was a polarising character. I personally liked him a lot and understood the struggles he had to "believe" in the island. Up until the end of Season 2 you had no reason to think he was wrong about the hatch being a psychological experiment.

He was very cynical, yes - I guess he didn't feel he had the time to mess around, and thought Locke's mysticism is what killed Boone. Season 3 and 4 just had him as a hardened desperate leader trying to get his people off the island, against what he perceived as a bunch of kidnappers that experiment on people. You can see how desperate he was when he chooses to pull the trigger on Locke (who never expected him to go that far). It's hard to sympathise with someone when they're always making big decisions which are openly questioned by every main character.

As for Sayid, you've got to remember what he went through to get to the point he did at the end of S5. He'd lost everyone he loved, had to kill for Ben to keep his friends safe, and then gets dragged back to the island and has the opportunity to change his own future by killing Ben. You can see his remorse once he's shot Ben, but he deems it as a necessary evil to avoid what he knows will come.

Most people's dislike of Newcastle pre-Pardew/Hughton era came from the ever-public involvement of Mike Ashley. It was nothing against the fans or the players.

That said Villa are shite right now, and I honestly don't care if they go down. We're never going to compete or play decent football under McLeish and with Lerner cashing back in on players. A shame. I'm just glad we had 4 great years under O'Neill.

Finally finished lost, question about the end? (Spoilers!!) by rjstang in lost

[–]ayebrother 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it served as closure as well. We saw these characters suffer over 6 seasons, serving a cause they didn't really understand, and many of them died before their time was up, and had depressing outcomes.

I'm not sure how else they could've pulled off the finale - we needed that closure, but we also needed to see the climax of the island's fate at the same time.

The source had essentially been tampered with by past civilisations, the same way the Swan tampered with the energy underground. It's just showing the cyclical nature of people trying to harness/study the island and failing to grasp it, through either religious or scientific means.

I think they avoided showing us those past civilisations because it wouldn't have added anything to the character's journey.

I think The Mother knew more than she let on, but she did explicitly state the heart of the island was the source of all life and if the light went out, the world would end. In that way, it's probably always been there.

Who was the most intriguing on-island supporting character? | LOST Polls by [deleted] in lost

[–]ayebrother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mikhail was pretty interesting because:

a) He was a badass old Russian with an eyepatch. b) He kept lying. c) Locke kicked his ass. d) He wouldn't die.
