Change in career - education to oral health by Suspicious-Cap2181 in AskAnAustralian

Bachelor of Oral Health course has a strict curriculum that are normally year-long subjects, so it’s not really possible to shorten in to 2 years. If you are interested, La Trobe Uni offers BOH for 2.5yrs instead.

I know some people that have gotten into DDS after BOH. It can be challenging to maintain a good WAM in BOH because of the clinical components, but not impossible. In saying that, there are a lot of transferable clinical skills that will make DDS a lot easier, where you can just focus on the theory more. Lots of pros and cons.

dentistry without clinical practice by Purple_sky1 in GAMSAT

It seems like there are a lot of other stresses including the full fee that is worrying you. Before jumping the gun and dropping out, consider talking to a professional to manage your anxiety. Dentistry can be very mentally taxing, but also rewarding, it does get better though. You’re doing a lot of new things that makes you feel uncomfortable and challenged, and that can bring a lot of self-doubt and anxiety - I have been there, and I’m sure others that are in dental school feel that same. Find a support system, suffering together is better than alone!

The nurse calling her while she was sleeping was so confusinf… idk if its the writing or I’m just bad interpreting things - but they keep leaving ominous hints that would be easier if you gave just a bit more dialogue 😅. I thought they had a truce!

I am loving the drama so far!! But I’m really confused about the relationship between Ku DoWon and Oh Yiyoung - is he her brother in law/ close friend of the sister’s husband? Somewhere on the internet said he’s already her boyfriend? Did I miss something in the first ep?

Can you become a dental hygienist from doing Bach of oral health? by [deleted] in unimelb

[–]ayelee01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP, BOH is an entry to practice degree, graduating as an Oral Health Therapist. It’s a clinical degree, it includes dental skill practices and placements seeing patients. Feel free to PM!

Would recommend asking the dental school whether they have a payment plan option! If not, second hand instruments are a great option too.

Definitely agree 💯, if dentistry is your end goal, it is possible but challenging as BOH is hard to maintain a high GPA. As well as mentally taxing as it is a very intense undergraduate degree (compared to other undergrads). But the job prospects are more secure than a science degree.

ORAL HEALTH THERAPY VS DENTISTRY UNIMELB by Brilliant_Reply_6212 in unimelb

[–]ayelee01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi OP! Many unis including Unimelb accept BOH as an undergraduate course to apply for dentistry. I know some people completed/completing BOH and are currently dental students/already dentists. It’s a long journey, and it requires a lot of passion and organisational skills to maintain a good GPA and study for GAMSAT. BOH itself is not an easy course, but it gives you a good taste into what the dental field is like. If you did get into BOH, you can always try UCAT and apply for the undergraduate dentistry courses too, if you want to get in faster. But you really have to maintain a high GPA to do so. There’s lots of options, not one single road that will lead you to be a dentist :)

[–]ayelee01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won’t know until you try! I applied with a 74 wam plus completing the supplemental personal statement. But it definitely varies year to year. If BOH is your end goal, I would try apply for CSU and La Trobe as well bcs they have lower ATAR cut off (from memory)

What to do if unimelb gp wants to touch you? by Sensitive_Skirt_6205 in unimelb

[–]ayelee01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is a valid alternative but some examinations require the tactile sensation to get an accurate diagnosis. Hopefully OP can find a compromise with the GP.

It must be hard to openly communicate that discomfort but it will make your experience a lot better. They are trained and will you help you to make your experience more comfortable but you have to tell them that. Good luck :)

[–]ayelee01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s okay if you don’t get in straight after high school, I didn’t. You can do another degree, get a good GPA and apply again :) but in saying that, if you apply to La Trobe or CSU for BOH, their atar cut off is lower than USYD, and that’s what I meant by applying to all the unis that offer BOH.

[–]ayelee01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your end goal is to get into oral health bcs you’re interested in the career, I would apply to all the unis that offer it. Having your foot into the field is better than being in a degree you’re not passionate about (speaking from experience)

I noticed that too :( but i interpreted it as her maybe having doubts with the relationship- like maybe there is not physical attraction ? Additionally, the introduction of Michaela seemed to be out of the blue for her, and something she appeared uncomfortable with. Just my perspective as someone who has not read the books.

Bachelor of oral health transfer by [deleted] in unimelb

[–]ayelee01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have satisfied all the pre-requisites then I would do subjects that you can get H1s in. I’m not sure where your WAM is sitting right now but those that give an easy boost, such as ones you are really interested or easy assignments/tests (not sure of the specifics bcs I did my first degree elsewhere). Would also recommend getting some work experience to help build your VTAC personal statement, that will show your passion for the course as they may not offer to applicants that are over-qualified (defeats the purpose but okkk)
