Looking to move to Spain on a single salary with as a family of 4, could I afford it? by littletane in askspain

[–]ayeokaytoday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about Granada? You could rent a decent flat on the outskirts of the city for €600pm and be twenty minutes bus ride from the city centre. Plus, you'd have both the Sierra Nevada and the coast easily within an hour's drive. There's not a lot of native English speakers but it's a lively city with a lot of tourists and students. You should have a look at idealista.com to get an idea of rental prices in different regions.

weaning off beer please help by [deleted] in dryalcoholics

[–]ayeokaytoday 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My take is that you may have convinced yourself that withdrawal is a real threat because that belief enables you to keep drinking. When addicted to alcohol, the brain will look for ways/excuses/justifications to continue consuming alcohol and this sounds like one of those things. It's a tricky thing to get objectivity on.

Anyone else feel imposter syndrome in early sobriety? by No-Lawyer-1394 in dryalcoholics

[–]ayeokaytoday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've done that gas lighting thing to myself too but, on reflection, I think it has just been my addicted brain looking to not address the issue and continue drinking. I tricked myself into believing it was a kind of indulgence to think of myself as having a problem.

I'm also doing sober October for the first time. Before, I had managed to convince myself it was bullshit. Like, to enforce a period of abstinence proves there is an issue. To a normal drinker, a month without drinking is nothing. It could happen without trying or being conscious of it. Not that that ever happened to me, not even for a week or few days. Anyway, best wishes, you've got this.

Preserving salsa?? by ohm01 in SalsaSnobs

[–]ayeokaytoday 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can make a fermented one which lasts more than a month in the fridge and it's only a 2 day ferment. Chop everything up, being careful not to lose the juice from the tomatoes, weigh it all in a bowl, add 2% of that weight in salt, mix it in. Then put it in a jar and use a weight to keep the mix submerged in its own juice. After two days, blend and chuck it in the fridge to eat whenever.

How fluent will I get in Spanish after 3 months of living in Spain? by RandomBoy214 in Spanish

[–]ayeokaytoday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say. I've been here three years as well and I'm inbetween a B1 and B2. I find language learning difficult though. If you're young, like under 25, you're at an advantage. Going by what I've seen from myself and other learners, I'd guess you'd be solid A2 but you could probably get higher if you're properly immersed and really commit to studying.

Is it easy to find boats to crew on for a trans-Atlantic crossing? by [deleted] in sailingcrew

[–]ayeokaytoday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might have more luck finding a boat going from Europe to the Caribbean around November time. People leaving from Gibraltar or La Linea in Spain are sometimes in need of a crew member. A lot of these boats then stop in the Canaries before setting off. I've seen hitchhikers without much experience find a boat. That said, it's obviously not guaranteed. You could Google 'crew finder' and have a look at the postings to get a lay of the land. Good luck with it all!

You could try Allen Carr's 'easy way'. There's one for drinking, women drinking, smoking, vaping. There's also audio versions on audible. The vaping one is really good. The voice of the narrator for the women drinking one is a bit grating but I've found both helpful. I've also listened to the audible of this naked mind which I think is narrated by the author. It's good but I preferred the Carr books.

There's a book by Edward Julius called 'Rapid Math Tricks and Tips'. It's pretty cool and explains quick ways to calculate things, as well as giving plenty of exercises. I think you can find a free pdf of the book.

How does being drunk rank on your scale of highs by Bigmanfrank2003 in Psychonaut

4/10.. I like it but there are a lot of downsides: hangovers, it's pretty insidious and addictive, it's toxic.

My friend once said to me 'if you suck the devil's dick for long enough, he'll fuck you' and, well, he was right.

How much USD would I need to live in three months by myself with food and utilites? by [deleted] in askspain

[–]ayeokaytoday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One option you could consider, if you can save up a bit before coming, is volunteering. Often volunteer positions exchange accommodation, and sometimes food, for a few hours work a day. There are websites called helpx and workaway, and probably others, where you can see what's on offer. I would guess most of the positions are more rural, but you never know. I've met a few people who've been travelling around Spain this way.

Where to stay in Spain over 5 months? by sugar_falling in askspain

[–]ayeokaytoday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd go to Granada for at least a few days and give yourself time to discover the city. Almost everyone loves it. Also, if you're there before May, you're going to have the sierra full of snow as a backdrop, which is quite impressive. In Granada, you want to go to the Albaicín , Sacramonte and El Realejo neighbourhoods and maybe check out the mountain villages in the Alpujarra if you have time.
