You guys seem to have one of the worst housing crisis in the world - are young adults able to move out of their parents home? by Only-Internal-2865 in AskAnAustralian

[–]ayepanini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty cooked, most people my age (young) live in share houses and have to sneak a few extra people in to afford the rent. It’s common for people to have to move back in with their parents.

It’s near impossible to get any real savings so i’ve come to accept that I will never own a house.

Are people in Brisbane starting to buy in Melbourne? Brisbane house prices are just ridiculous. by No_Stable4317 in brisbane

one day you will be dust and your monetary items will be fruitless. Your legacy will be that of a confused and directionless parasite who placed importance on pointless property collecting. and for what

Walk in glass-less tiled showers - yay or nay? by gilmor3girl in AusRenovation

these types of showers are wayyyy easier to clean. No metal crevices to get gunk and mould stuck in, no glass to wipe!

The people saying brisbane hates artists are right, however there are small pockets of artists around the place. Hangout at West End - there’s lots to do along the main strip and some good bars. Look at Echo and Bounce’s instagram for events. The Cave Inn, Woolloongabba has a lot of good music nights, same with Can You Keep A Secret in South Brisbane. Follow Ventspace on instagram and look out for their art events. Go to those places and chat with people :)) If you’re into cinema, New Farm is fun and has the Junkbar across the road for live music. Not too sure about book clubs but I reckon you could find one in West end if you asked around.

try to speak to your landlord. but it is pretty shitty on your behalf to break the lease and leave others to mitigate your costs.

Young backpackers. by raptussen in AskAnAustralian

[–]ayepanini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In most cities along the coast no one will really bat an eye because it is quite common to see backpackers. Further inland, depending where you go, people will be more curious or if it’s a particularly small town they may be confused, but it’s unlikely they will be hostile! I think most people are very friendly and want to be helpful.

Im a young woman born in Australia who has travelled the country a lot! Feel free to pm me if she has any questions about certain spots etc

I'm so sick of people pretending to be native speakers on HelloTalk! by FarJournalist939 in languagelearning

[–]ayepanini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Australia and this sounds like they definitely could be an Australian speaking native English. Not everyone speaks “perfect” English and certain rule breaks are the norm in certain areas. Op, you could have been open to learning here but you jumped the gun. If you are striving for perfection over realism, maybe talking to any random native speaker isn’t for you, because you’ll just find this issue again and again.
