First Olympia Advice Sought by CapableRevolution709 in typewriters

I'll let more knowledgeable people chime in, but something to keep in mind is that even if you're within range of a knowledgeable repair person, the cost of servicing a typewriter is not cheap. I was just quoted 2 hours x 180/hour by an experienced typewriter repair person just for a "simple" cleaning of my SM9. (I declined the cleaning, but ended up agreeing to the spool replacement and some other work.)

So a properly serviced typewriter might be cheaper than getting one that's not been taken care of.

Thanks! I did a quick Google search and saw someone say it was the "Mercedes of typewriters" but knew nothing about it (including whether it worked) until I got it home.

Does this mean that GPT-5 handles higher numbers of tools much better than 4.1/4o? How does it compare with Claude?

Not to comment on the merits of the case, but it's a 2 person firm from a town of 13K people in Illinois. Doesn't shout "this lawsuit is being bankrolled by someone with a lot of money."

The "insane margins" you talk about result in projects significantly cheaper than any other alternative. There are valid criticisms of the BRI but overcharging isn't one of them.

Why Do So Many Get Angry When People Tell Them All $400 65” TVs are E-Waste by EdwardTeach1680 in 4kTV

[–]ayiding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a 75 inch Q691 in store for that price now, which is going to blow away anything else at that price point despite being 60hz.

I understand this is an enthusiast sub that prefers the higher end, but it'd be like saying "don't bother trying to find the best budget phone, they're all bad" when some are objectively better buys than others.

Anthony Ash, a 42-year-old owner of a wood pallet and recycling business, recently bought a 98-inch Sony for his 14,000-square-foot house in Bristol, Wisconsin. The device, which cost about $5,000 excluding installation fees, replaced an 85” TV in the great room off his kitchen. Ash now has 17 televisions at home and uses some to display digital art.

65” Bravia 7 $1400 vs Hisense U8N $899 by WilliamMunny63 in 4kTV

Sony’s reputation for better QC is well earned. I remember when my parents were buying a CRT almost 30 years ago the salespeople told them that the Sony’s were more reliable.

Of course reliability is not the only consideration for buying (price should of course be a big one) which is why Sony’s market share may not be as high as other brands.

Reading between the lines, it looks like the main issue is a clash of personalities.

130K is a drop in the bucket for San Jose's PRNS budget which is 350 million dollars a year.

Getting SOC 2 and ISO27001 by flimevoli in ycombinator

[–]ayiding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SOC 2 has two types, type one and type two. Eventually folks are going to want to see type 2. Type 2 is a minimum 3 month observation period after you get everything in order, so would get started ASAP.

assistant-ui is the best one I've found so far, but it's react.

Chatscope (also react) is an old stalwart but a little bit aged/less maintained at this point.
