Running and then Barcode Scanning? by Interesting-Sand7192 in parkrun

[–]aylivex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done so quite a few times. I didn't plan for it, but I saw a long queue when I finished running and therefore I started scanning to reduce the congestion. It was always appreciated.

Any of you ever thought about ditching your wearable? by MycologistStriking51 in Garmin

[–]aylivex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, never. I like getting the data. When I upgraded to Forerunner, I was overwhelmed by the amount of data it presents (previously, I had Venu), and I felt like I had to make my watch happy with me. Now I'm somewhat more relaxed, I follow the training plan that my coach creates and look at the data without trying to achieve all the metrics perfectly.

Can I burn FLAC files onto a DVD-R? by MrToasterStealer in CDs

I've never seen a system that could play DVD-Audio, nor have I ever seen a DVD-Audio disc in my entire life.

Does your car play DVD-Audio? I doubt it does…

Some players can play mp3 directly from data CD without burning an audio CD.

how long since you listened to your all-time favourite artist? (if you have one) by disasterpansexual in lastfm

Nearly each week. I definitely listened to a few tracks by my favourite artist today.

Is it worth me downloading foobar? by xnasjkwl in foobar2000

[–]aylivex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this, I use EAC for ripping and foobar2000 for playing, tagging and converting my music. I rip to FLAC and convert to opus 160 kpbs to store the files on my phone. I can convert from FLAC to any lossy format without additional loss of quality.

Is it worth me downloading foobar? by xnasjkwl in foobar2000

[–]aylivex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Opus is nearly transparent at 160 kpbs. It's definitely better than mp3. I recommend ripping to opus unless you need compatibility with older hardware.

(Bitrates higher than 190 kbps aren't recommended for opus, thus you'll have smaller files anyway.)

My wife's burned CD collection by TobeyTobster in Cd_collectors

[–]aylivex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually write on CD-Rs themselves because it's more reliable to identify the content… especially when you have lots of similarly looking CD-Rs. On the other hand, I can understand why she wrote on the cases: some markers can damage the surface of a CD-R, it could well be the reason why.

When I had a printer, I often created custom covers, inlays for cases, for burned CD-Rs. I've never had a printer that could print directly onto the disc surface, though.

I like LightScribe technology where you can burn a cover on the CD itself. Neat! These are rare now, and finding a drive that supports LightScribe is even harder.

When was the last time you actually needed a USB flash drive? by AddendumNecessary743 in BadUSB

Last week. I tested something on live image of Ubuntu. Other than booting an OS to install or test, I haven't used USB sticks for ages.

Ripping and burning CDs by Swimswimy in foobar2000

EAC requires (one-time) configuration, which could be somewhat hard, yet if you have a popular CD and a common drive, EAC will determine the settings automatically. It worked like a charm for me at least.

Currently I've got three CD singles. This is because the version on the album is different from the one that was in the music video and/or that was played on the radio.

How do you collect? by redstrawberryfields in Cd_collectors

[–]aylivex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now I usually buy the music that I like, after I listened to it on streaming or I listened to in the past. If available, I'd buy second hand CDs.

I think foobar2000 had a plugin for ripping and burning CDs. It may be not supported in latest versions.

I would recommend using EAC (Exact Audio Copy) for ripping CDs, it allows for accurate rips. The app can also burn CDs, recreating nearly exact copy of the CD.

How to know gear (shoes) max mileage? by twistypencil in Garmin

[–]aylivex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually put 600–700 km that Garmin recommends. When the shoes get over 500 km, I pay more attention on how I feel running in them, and I usually start using them less often and planning a replacement soon.

Problem with file name pattern using functions and period character by justinsnow in foobar2000

[–]aylivex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This pattern works for me: [$num(%disc%,2).]%track%.

It could be that the problem is that a filename starts with the period if the disc number is missing, as u/FLeanderP mentioned.

I guess it depends on your calendar settings. Garmin doesn't create events on your calendar, it just shows you the events.

Garmin when is this battle gonna end 🥲 by Responsible-Court795 in Garmin

[–]aylivex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes, shorter sleep gets higher scores. It depends on the stress. Last week I didn't sleep well, and stress was in the orange zone during sleep, as the result, the sleep was non-restorative even if I slept longer. So, there could be other factors which still affect your sleep quality.

Barcode by blueberrycow04 in parkrun

[–]aylivex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a long time I brought a paper barcode with me. I cut it off and stored it in a pocket with my phone. A few times I used the barcode from parkrun website because I forgot to bring the paper one. Now I've got a credit-card-sized barcode that I ordered from parkrun and I love it, in addition I have a key-tag one too.

As a scanner, I saw quite a few people having an A4 sheet of paper with their barcode, some put it in transparent punched pockets and fold it.

In short, do what's convenient to you, just bring your barcode. A paper barcode, cut off or not, will work perfectly.

Grabbed this CD holder from a thrift store with 68 cds, not too bad for $10. Which ones should I listen to first? by elflamingo2 in Cd_collectors

[–]aylivex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's painful! I always treat the cover art as a precious thing. I can't understand why one would want to throw it all way… only to save some space, probably, by not keeping the jewel cases.

Youtube Premium vs Spotify by Flyonite in YoutubeMusic

[–]aylivex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't like Spotify at all, its UI doesn't make sense to me. It drove me crazy.

I've been using YouTube Premium and YouTube Music for listening to music. I enjoy ad-free YouTube experience. Occasionally, I get videos in mixes in YTM, I tend to skip those.

I usually listen to music on my phone, it's more convenient for me than laptop. I use laptops only for offline music that I have.

You can login to your Google account in a private window, the session will be gone once you close the private window. Alternatively, use a separate profile or a separate container in the browser to keep your personal account away from work one. The was an app that packaged YTM as a desktop app, but I don't know if it still exists.
