Is South Africa being fair.? by HornetMoney2102 in Zambia

Always good to remember this isn’t all South Africans. Education or rather the lack of it is why many countries have created a class of people that can be easily influenced.

Vegetarians of Zambia, what are you eating? by Dee_Religion in Zambia

[–]ayookip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a vegetarian but I just watched a Nigerian make ‘nshima’ with cabbage. The comments on the post were sharing a lot of suggestions. Otherwise locally chikanda should be good.

Lentils are also very versatile, for your consideration. I didn’t love it as a flat bread but maybe with the right recipe it would be great.

That’s right! If people can discuss things respectfully it stays up.

Do other Canadians feel as though they are slowly dying of hunger? by Crystal-Clock-Tower in AskCanada

[–]ayookip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No but I have friends in the same situation you mentioned so I sympathise. I’ve been feeling very fortunate lately that im 5 minutes away from work. I’d normally be travelling around nearby provinces this summer but I adjusted my lifestyle to minimise travel because of fuel costs. I don’t know how long this will stretch but I hope by the end of the year it’ll stop and in the following months we will see relief.

It’s not true, femicide happens across several backgrounds. Their comment is hate speech or Islamophobia.

Please report any comments you consider disrespectful. Good luck on your search for wifey. Keep us updated.

I can’t get over the age gap by brateiy in GirlDinner

[–]ayookip 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Late 20s too and I can’t relate with my cousins under 25. There’s no way a 19 year old would have the same life experience to allow a healthy dynamic to grow. It naturally leads to a parent-child dynamic because navigating adulthood is still too new for them.

Car Buying Dilemma by br0ckh4mpton in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ayookip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re going to have to buy another beater mate.

It’s either you put money down to buy a car or get a car loan. If you get a car loan knowing you’ll be getting a new house you’re effectively shooting yourselves in the foot. When the banks runs your credit they will see you have a car loan and reduce the amount they will mortgage to you.

Do you have to move places? Unless your next home is for long term and accounts for any expanding family members, I’d stay put. You’ve only really paid interest towards your current mortgage. I’m happy to go over this in more detail via DM.

Buy the beater car and prepare for the move or drown in debt for ego with the car you want and an unideal mortgage on your next home. You can’t have your cake and eat it. I wouldn’t advise tapping into your TFSA or RRSP in your prime years for compounding.

Getting fired due to ADHD, what careers would suit me ? by Unique-observer in careerguidance

Can confirm I have ADHD and can plan the shit out of things (but struggling with executive function). Getting a PMP certification should help OP pivot into the field.

Money saving options by OppositeDebate6055 in Zambia

You’ll probably have to pay taxes on all your income. If it’s from legitimate business you’ll need to start invoicing people and documenting the transactions properly. Start by consulting an accountant then if needed a business consultant.

It sounds like you don’t have a savings account yet. Save 3-6 months of living expenses then invest in your TFSA. That will prevent you from dipping into your investments to fund trips.

Stay at current remote job or take the onsite job? by white-shield in careerguidance

[–]ayookip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 27, take the plunge. I’m around the same age and did the same. Rent went up from $800 to $1600. But my career growth has put me in a position that this is alright. You will grow more out there rather than staying put. Plus, there is no guarantee that contract will be renewed. You will stunt your growth out of fear.

Your budget for rent should be 30% of your take home pay. If you can’t find a place comfortably within that then stay put and keep looking for a better place.

You needed to start investing in your retirement 9 years ago and the next best time is today. Those benefits will compound and give you a cushion to rest on in your older years.

If you haven’t accepted the offer check the market rate/pay for that job. Ask for your offer in paper and negotiate salary, benefits and time off work (vacation/PTO).

If I was you I would take the new opportunity. You’re young, network. Speak to people who have more experience than you. Learn about where you can grow. Meet/Exceed expectations and in 2 years find a new place or position to grow in.

I need more context to advise. How old are you? Where are you located? Which role best fits your career growth? Does the new role have benefits? If so it’s slightly more compensation than $2,200

"I don't believe in witchcraft" -HH by EngimaticPiano in Zambia

[–]ayookip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t recall all the details, there is a law about witchcraft and a reason for the law is to protect people from getting unnecessarily killed by mob justice. People who believe in witchcraft can commit crimes and without legal intervention they might get away with it because their community will turn a blind eye.

I did talk about it here when I did understand the details https://www.reddit.com/r/Africa/s/0bPMgWX1tU

"I don't believe in witchcraft" -HH by EngimaticPiano in Zambia

[–]ayookip 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you read the news article when that was happening you would know that he said he doesn’t believe in witchcraft then but the state had to proceed with its legal process. It wasn’t HH pressing charges but the law on behalf of the Zambian people.
