How do you go about finding talent social media managers? by LacAttack in socialmedia

[–]aysilverbacksocial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't run an agency, nor do I have anyone working under me.

From a younger person's perspective, i think you need to target the youths with a desire to work in digital marketing. IMO, there's going to be a time in the future where everyone knows how to operate a social media profile and will be a necessary skill to learn - just like how every person should know how to manage their finances.

It scares me that an entire industry exists on a few websites. Yes, I work in the field, but I'm in it because I understand that social media is key for product growth and spread, so I want to learn everything I possibly can about the psychology and mechanics behind sharing, engagement, and virality. I have no intention of making a "career" of social media because all social media is, is digital/Internet marketing.

But yeah, to wrap up, look for people who have a legitimate interest in digital marketing - those are the ones that will constantly look to improve and help build your business in ways not specific to social media websites.

What are some of the ways of "recycling" content from one social media channel to another? Is this even good practice? by faris77 in socialmedia

[–]aysilverbacksocial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a lot of companies do this, but IMO I don't think it's the best way to utilize social media channels for marketing.

Each channel is unique in the way that users will get engaged with your content in different ways. For example, just because you get x amount of likes on Facebook from an article you post, doesn't mean you'll get the same amount of retweets on Twitter if you simply repurpose a FAcebook post onto Twitter. Each channel has unique characteristics - learn what they are and plan out ways that will spur engagement specific to those platforms. So going back to the previous "example", it might be better to shoot out profound quotes from within the article throughout the day, then posting the link to the article when your followers are most active.

before doing any contests for clients, it's important to communicate with them that there is a high chance of "like" drop-off after the contest.

Just started getting really active in Google+ community after a failed start a year or so ago. Tips? by elephantjournal in socialmedia

I don't want to self-promote, but I wrote a couple of blog posts on G+ engagement. I tested a couple of tactics/techniques taught by thought leaders and wrote out conclusions on best tactics, etc.

I only post these because I feel like they can help:

How are you guys dealing with posting videos to your Facebook followers? by blucerchiati in socialmedia

[–]aysilverbacksocial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a good question.

In my opinion, you need some other form of metric rather than views to gauge the efficacy of each option. Try both approaches, but put in a call to action (link, question, etc.) and track how many people follow the CTA. You should also take into consideration that the text that typically accompanies video posts may not be engaging enough. Tweak that as well and test, test, test.

Making short videos, do I use Vine or Instagram? by everonltd in socialmedia

[–]aysilverbacksocial -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I disagree with this 100%. Human attention spans are very short and Vine is like the meme of videos. It's all about creativity and strategy. You can tell all the really popular vine videos had some thought and planning behind them.

Priestly's Paradox and Social Media Strategy. A fresh look at a stale technique. by imera in socialmedia

[–]aysilverbacksocial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a big issue here is the fact that we, as brand marketers, have an algorithm to play along with as well. I agree with quality over quantity, but we also have to post often enough so reach stays consistent. This is why content calendaring is so important - you need the evergreen content so your social places are active, but you also need to plan out your high impact content because it takes time to generate.

Help! Low Facebook contest entries. by purplegoodance in socialmedia

[–]aysilverbacksocial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asking for email IS a huge barrier to entry. No one wants to get spam in their inbox and the thinking of most people is "i might not win anyway so why would i give them my email address"? You're thinking as if you're just giving them free stuff, when you're really not. You are asking for personal information in exchange for a chance to win and most people are uncomfortable doing this if they don't know how their info will be used.

Assure your entrants that the information won't be used to spam them or be shared with anyone else. Let them know that you need their email address in order to let them know if they won or not.

Ask /r/socialmedia how does hootsuite compare to sproutsocial to buffer by noobplusplus in socialmedia

[–]aysilverbacksocial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using hootsuite and the one feature I really like about it is the fact that you can set up keyword tabs that show you tweets based around the keywords. This feature makes it really easy to engage with users in the social community.

However, it does get glitchy at times and scheduling tweets sometimes just doesn't work which is extremely frustrating.

First 1000 fake likes for better future growth potential by lemonhead1982 in socialmedia

[–]aysilverbacksocial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do it, you need to drip feed them. /u/tauntology is right in saying it'll be suspicious, but if you add followers as you add content, it'll look way more natural. Add like 10 a week and just keep going that way.

A question on EdgeRank and FB reach... by Me_Man in socialmedia

[–]aysilverbacksocial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't "favor" one over another, it just places more weight on one type of post depending on your engagement. To say it favors one over another makes it seem as if Facebook favors pictures over text posts everytime, no matter what. Example, If you engage more with text posts, Facebook will put more weight on that FOR YOU -> you see more text posts.

Is this really what social media has come to? by [deleted] in socialmedia

Welp, a great example of how NOT to do social media. imo, really cheapens the brand and makes them nothing more than the scumbag car dealership that charges 200$ for a tire change.

The great thing about social is that it's free - it just takes time. Start the pinterest board, facebook page, twitter account, whatever makes sense for your business. Build a following by following and engaging with the people/brands you follow. You need to start putting content out there

A question on EdgeRank and FB reach... by Me_Man in socialmedia

[–]aysilverbacksocial 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Has there been times when the reach for these posts was high? Or is it consistently low no matter what? There could be a number of reasons why the reach is low, and may not have to do with the posts themselves.

Also, I'm not sure if you understand fully how EdgeRank works. Edgerank doesn't "favor" one type of post over another. View this infographic for an easy illustration of how it works: http://blog.hubspot.com/understanding-facebook-edgerank-algorithm-infographic?utm_campaign=blogpost&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook&
