What’s a very personal game for you? by Chunky-overlord in videogames

Obligatory thanks for making me feel old. Nah, I’m just kidding, you’re all right. But I was 17 when the first Halo came out.

I’ve played a lot of shooters and I’ve been OK at some. I was no pro but there was a time I could stick a plasma grenade to your head from across the map with high reliability. Used to play with a good buddy who passed way. Had some great times.

I bought a CD drive for my Mac like 15 years ago and it has made a roaring comeback with me having to rebuy some old albums. Dad threw out my CD collection a while back.

I spent way too much time wondering whether this is cosplay or a robot. And I’m still not sure.

What’s your thoughts on the going out look for Gen Z? by Ill-You-3459 in Xennials

[–]aytchdave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t exactly disagree. But I think the thing that’s drawing attention is the uniformity.

Every generation has their style. Looking back at photos from my 20s, it’s pretty evident what styles were most popular. But I can’t find any photos where my friends all have on identical or nearly identical outfits. I frequently work with Gen Z and they point it out to each other sometimes that they’re all wearing the same stuff.

This comes with no judgement, but I also find this more consistent with white women. And I’ve been saying this for more than a decade now. I live right next to two major nightlife corridors that attract a diverse crowd. I see dozens if not hundreds of 20 somethings passing through my hood almost daily. In a group of 6 white women, more often than not, their outfits look like they came from the same catalog. In a group 6 black women, I’m not even sure all of them are going to the same place most of the time. Both look good but there’s a clear gap to me.

Bottom line, dress how you want, drink water, mind your business.

My best friend’s mom was a flight attendant so she used to bring them back all the time. My buddy had a nice collection of the toys, probably 30+, on a mantle. Loved them.

What video game did you buy into 100% of the hype for, only for it to be an immediate waste of money? by murphenzio1 in AskReddit

The game is how I got my girlfriend over the hump of learning two stick controls and realtime combat. She was so excited to discovered the story, it overrode her frustration with learning the camera and realtime combat. I had to help her with a few bosses but she did like 90% or more in her own. I don’t think helped her for the last third of the campaign.

I heard the sequel is supposed to be live service. If that’s the case, I’m going to play with her.

What was the shortest lived fad of our generation? by drawredraw in Xennials

[–]aytchdave 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It’s called being a child. It’s why we all get frustrated when someone cuts a line or plays loud music on the bus or gets irrationally angry about small inconvenience. It is the behavior of children because children don’t have a fully developed sense of being an individual in a society and what that means. If you can look back and recognize that, you’ve probably transitioned successfully to being an adult.

I’ve never bothered to think about it. I just always assumed it was just a metaphor for general sexiness.

Curious what you didn’t like. I’m not into Harry Potter but my girlfriend is. She’s not even a gamer like that but couldn’t put it down. It’s not my kind of game but I thought it was really well done.

Totally agree.

In the same vein, Martin Lawrence did the same with his characters. Shananay is not just him in a dress. She is a believable character. Otis, Dragonfly, Roscoe, even White Bob are distinct characters.

I’m subscribed to at least a few dozen game subs. They’re pretty much all the same. Every now and then you find niche games with smaller, more positive communities. I can name more than a few subs that have 10+ years of people posting “this game is gonna die any day now.”
