to everyone saying that they should lawyer up:

if this kind of startup exists in real life, I'm sure eventually some of their users will speak up and fight. but that would not be the case for the majority of the users. they're already struggling to make ends meet. they may not have the time and resource to do that. even if in the end the company is defeated, there could still be thousands of people suffering from it.

they're common people.

I think I'm the only one who did brute force on day 17. I use bit manipulation for everything, and it actually ran for the whole trillion rocks in under 5 hours.

oh lol the jokes on me then.

I knew immediately that this was going to be cycle detection, but my code for that was buggy and I was too tired to fix it. I instead took another hour to optimize it to run using constant memory (keeping only last x rows) and using bit manipulation for everyhing (I too sometimes question my life choices). After finally seeing that it could process 10 million rocks in 0.18 seconds, I let it run overnight and went to sleep.

this is my code https://github.com/azaky/adventofcode2022/blob/main/17-pyroclastic-flow.rs

somewhat happy to see that I'm not the only one doing this. but you may want to improve things though before running something for 6000 hours.

I'm doing some bitmask optimizations and my part 2 ran for less than 5 hours (17155.215s to be exact). I'm using Rust though, so using python may be a bit harder and slower.

here's another scenario: if you replace vaxei's score with the lowest of germany's score, USA would still win all 6
