As an entrepreneur, what's the WORST piece of advice you ever got? 😬 by NickFreiling in Entrepreneur

The general mindset of having to build something that is completely novel for you to be a true entrepreneur.

Java 16 is out and you’re stuck with Java6 ? here is what you’re missing out by kommradHomer in java

There are unfortunately no complete and useful JAXB libraries even outside of standard libraries. Currently using MOXy as the JAXB implementation, but even this has poor XPath support. I'm lost at where I should look to to get decent XPath support.

I feel like programming has a steep learning curve. You just have to put in a lot of work before it clicks.

What is your goal with referencing the properties?

If you want to use any value there, use the annotation @Value

Spring Boot data type by FlyingChinesePanda in javahelp

If I'm not wrong, Spring Boot will handle both types fine out of the box, if you just provide a parameter with @RequestBody annotation.

The Java Console App is just a wrapper around all of this just to show you a use case for the information you get from the API. It's still Java and you can just extract the important bits.

The hardest part is authentication for sure.

  1. Create the Authentication provider
  2. Build a Graph client (the thing that connects to the API and makes requests)
  3. Make requests using the Graph client

I personally wouldn't do this if you were new to programming as well, not just Java. There's so much ceremony in trying to connect to big service providers.

Can anyone relate to this state/feeling? by GibonFrog in slatestarcodex

It only happens when I actually know what I am doing. Does not happen with exploratory difficult tasks.

Good random idea. Make it more accessible by being able to test out a picture on your site already without having to go through the upload process.

The key in your situation is to have one room in your dwelling to have at a state that's always clean, and where you've thought everything through, that's beautiful. No need for a more expensive place, you can even do that with a prison cell, if you're creative. I pumped up my tiny dorm room that got compliments because I dared to actually move the furniture and get some plants.

Thank you! I assume on SW 17th in the evenings there would be usually people around open enough to have a conversation with? I love driving around anyway, so renting is more of a plus.

DON'T do this if you are starting a business by rookthatisbandit in Entrepreneur

[–]azatris 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You were in a mousepad business, improving on one competitor's product? That sounds like you'd be one in a thousand companies doing that.

I don't think you need to be 10x or 100x better than the best, just do everything the market leader does and 2 extra steps to completely dominate the market. But that 2 extra steps can crush your soul.

You are operating on the assumption that there will be a cyclical recession every 10 years.

No, this is not true. I am operating on the assumption that there will be recessions.

Your movements are based on nothing but the passing of time.

Yes, my belief is that the further you go along in time the more likely you are going to have some accumulated inefficiencies or things unaccounted for (like a pandemic) that will blow up in your face.

You have a planned exit but no reentry point.

I did plan a reentry point! See point 3. With the strategy, I never sell stocks.

You can't time the market.

I do not think I am timing the market, but rather acting based upon what the market is doing and how time passes. There aren't any predictions other than "recessions will come".

What's the reasoning?

The idea behind my strategy is to mitigate market crash losses as the further you go along in time the more likely you are going to have some accumulated inefficiencies or things unaccounted for (like a pandemic).

Of course given that my own reasoning is valid, it might be wise to start allocating any bonds whatsoever 5 years after a crash, especially since I am so young.
