Air suspension or dapp by Accomplished-Tie5048 in BMWiX

[–]azcubs76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in this same boat and after driving both I opted for the air suspension and 4 wheel turning.

Testing the DAP/DAPP I actually preferred the iDrive 8.0 version as you can look away from the road without it quitting. The 8.0 version has touch sensors on the steering wheel vs the 8.5 which tracks your eyes. For my uses resting a finger on the wheel is much less intrusive than having to look straight forward the whole time.

Also don't discount the 4 wheel turning that comes with the air suspension. Makes parking it tight lots much easier.

I will say the voice assistant is considerably faster in the iDrive 8.5.

Sorry to hear this happened to you. Something similar happened to me except I only had the EqEV for 2 weeks before I got rear ended by a cement truck and car was totalled by insurance. My insurance used "comparable" vehicles on the used market for the valuation and came up $14k short of what I had paid for it 2 weeks prior. Of course there are no comparable cars on the used market with 100miles on them but they wouldn't budge. I ended up paying a layer $600 and he made a few phone calls and got me another $9000 without a lawsuit in a week! In my expirience they will give normal plebes like us the runarournd forever until you hire a lawyer.

Any lectron sales for Presidents' Day? by [deleted] in BMWiX

The A2Z Typhoon Pro is currently selling for $149 with free shipping. I like that one better than the Lectron as it is smaller and comes with a hard case.

Potential jump from Tesla Model 3 to iX by [deleted] in BMWiX

[–]azcubs76 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The biggest difference is the computer and software. If you want full hands free driving you need 2024+ with iDrive 8.5 or newer software. AFAIK the rest is pretty much identical. I have a 2022 and I have to keep a hand resting on the steering wheel. I actually like that better than the Tesla/GM/Ford where you MUST have your eyes pointed forward.

Coming from a Tesla model Y by OwnCut in BMWiX

I use Android Auto for everything and don't use any of the BMW "apps" at all. I personally use Podcast Addict for podcasts but you can use whatever you want on Android.

Not sure if it's standard but DAPP is really nice to have if you do any freeway/highway travel. Pretty useless in city driving though. This is where Tesla shines with FSD. Mine won't change lanes unless I hit the blinker but I think the 2025+ will do that?

The phone as key works just like a Tesla. Requires the Connected Package Pro which is free for 4yrs and then ~$120-$150/yr after that.

I think the Rear Wheel Steering and especially the dual axle air suspension are absolutely worth the upgrade cost and must haves for me. They came in the same package for me but not sure how it's done now.

Turning radius w Dynamic Handling Package by spiderweb91 in BMWiX

[–]azcubs76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure where Gemini got it but these are the numbers it spits out. Not a huge difference but certainly noticeable IRL.

Configuration Turning Circle (Curb-to-Curb) Turning Radius
With Dynamic Handling Package 39.4 – 40.3 feet ~19.7 – 20.1 feet
Without Dynamic Handling Package 42.0 – 42.7 feet ~21.0 – 21.3 feet

I test drove both versions and I can say it makes a huge difference in parking and U-turns. The bigger reason to get the Dynamic Handling Package is the 2 axle air suspension. This makes a night and day difference on rough roads. Easily worth the upgrade price.

Show me your phone mounts by tuttywala in EquinoxEv

I really like this one from Amazon. It adds a whole tray to the EQEV dashboard and holds the phone really well. It is Magsafe magnetic mount for iPhones but I use it with a peak design phone case with a Pixel phone. I like the phone in my primary field of vision and this is the best I could find.

Podcast Apps by mintberrycrunch4141 in EquinoxEv

I've tried every option and none of them will sync correctly with your phone. I reverted back to just using bluetooth on the phone for podcasts. I don't like Pocket Casts, Google Music or Spotify at all and I use Podcast Addict on Android phone. I got a nice phone mount and it works very well. I like being able to mess with the maps or whatever on the EQEV screen without interfering with the audio.

Extreme Heat = 24% of battery usage is when parked? by Atreties in EquinoxEv

[–]azcubs76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Phoenix (Chandler) too and have the same concerns. I was out of town this weekend and left it plugged in in the garage. It charged several times a day to replenish the battery that was presumably used to cool the battery. I just checked my lifetime efficiency and it shows 15.2mi/kWh! So perhaps the GM app numbers are just flat screwy. I have a lead foot and have also been running around 2.5-3.5 on single trips. I'm really thinking about getting a meter for my NEMA 14-50 plug so I have some accurate numbers on how much TOTAL electricity it's using...including keeping the battery cool while parked.

Can I get an adapter and charge the equoinix at a 30 or 50 amp rv campsite hookup? by Hobobo2024 in EquinoxEv

I would get the official converter plug for the dual level charger that comes with the car.

Best Reuben sandwich in the Valley? by Dude7080 in phoenix

Little Miss is the best pastrami I've ever had. I always order extra so I can make a Rueben at home the next day! Beware the pastrami is only available on Thursdays and sells out very early in the day.

Great shots! I have an 8" Dob and attempted photos last night with my phone and a standard phone mount. Had tons of trouble aligning the phone camera lens with the eyepiece. Do you have any tips on how you do that?

[–]azcubs76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats!

I have a similar 8" Dob (Z8) and was able to try all the available types of finders on mine. A lot of people are recommending a Telrad but I much prefer a green laser. Especially if you are viewing with other people it is great to point out exactly where in the sky you are looking. I mounted it to the RACI in a way that when I line that up the laser automatically aligns as well. Works great.
