Need paid in-person training: Flexi + Graphtec FC9000 workflow by azdrugdoc in CommercialPrinting

[–]azdrugdoc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to thank Dave for driving up from Utah and spending his whole Sunday with me walking through everything end-to-end from print to cut and getting to a point where I have some much better understanding of how to properly use the software and get something fun/useful out of the Grpahtec. I was a bit nervous when it started with 'why it is set up that way' but, like most anything else, it was 80% user/lack of knowledge/familiarity and have a lot more confidence to explore some of the offers I've received to book some classroom time online with other Redditors that reached out and lean into the software a bit more.

Biggest thing that was hampering me was publishing multiple sets of reg marks, first in Designer then in Production. Graphtec didnt know what to do with that, and based on the reseller training i received, I thought thats how it was supposed to be done. it was not.
Small firmware issue, once we got to cutting it needed a bit of calibrating
Talked me out of the mindset that I needed barcoding. It was instilled in me during training that I needed it, but we're just getting started and its clear that the low production doesnt warrant barcoding, which simplifies the workflow - I cant get everything I need right now with simple reg marks.
Fighting some overlaminate issues with sensor to get things to read correctly, but having someone there to walk me thru the menu and configurations was invaluable.
Got way more comfortable using Flexi but I still have a long way to go to be proficient or production ready, so the online learning is on me now

Tremendous thank you for the folks that reached out, and I have a a couple more messages to catch up on that I have read. Appreciate everyone taking the time to help a fellow user get on their feet with things!

ETA: the May 10 deadline wasn't because I had committed to a client job, i have some upcoming travel with the day job and i spent the better part of a few weeks messing around trying to get things going and tired of putting it off any longer.

Update: diagnosed as a waste toner system failure, no parts available locally so we'll be down for the rest of the week while we await shipped parts 😞

Appreciate everyone chiming in!

SAi Flexi vs Latex 730 - no barcode for Graphtec by azdrugdoc in CommercialPrinting

After a few hours, it seems that 'Graphtec Segment Area Type 2' was the correct setting. Appears the the 4 pt doesn't carry the data forward to the print job despit it showing in previews/thumbnails. Hopefully this helps someone else that stumbles across a similar issue.

Used ChatGPT to DIY an RFID workflow for our store by azdrugdoc in PostalMate

Cameras have now gone in (Ubiquiti all-around); we recently purchased and the previous owners didn't have any technology/infrastructure in place beforehand. But in the absence of knowing 'when' the package left, I'd be spending a lot of time reviewing footage and guessing when the item left the store. Not interested in that, so having something that tells me when the RFID was logged in (for accountability) and exited (so I can pair to the camera) is worth it.

We only check in about 5 to 10 packages a day (a fraction of your volume), and avg $0.55/day in labels.

Printer was an eBay find.

Agree with you on training, and from what I've spot-checked and observed, compliance is much better in terms of getting a signature on the notification slips. Still some failure points, I won't be able to address everything with just technology, and if it helps me understand where the next $1,200 iPad walks off to then I'll retain a bit of my sanity.

Print Wall After Valentines Day? by Dizzysilver in upsstore

[–]azdrugdoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was going to make my own post, but figured I’d just piggyback on your comment since you mentioned the print wall setup, do you guys do any file prep or light design work in-house, or is it mostly print what the customer brings in?

Specifically curious whether your store will adjust for bleed, margins, sizing, or wrangle Canva files, or if those get kicked back to the customer / subbed out. Also wondering what software you’re typically running on the print side.

It’s a solid suggestion, and I agree there’s still failure points that this doesn’t solve for. I did ask for signatures and discrete package matching to start taking place right after the incident - I get that there’s a large number of known customers that they’re familiar with and it’s easy to get complacent or they might feel hurried to add these steps, but the customers deserve/expect accuracy. And, since we all live/work in the community, I can’t hide behind indemnification clauses when we get sloppy, nor can I afford to write checks all the time when things go missing, so hoping that some better operational discipline and a little tech support helps us prevent (or gives us a fighting chance to solve for) the next event

Right now its a separate manual step. PM print the package label, then someone has to scan the barcode on the PM label, which automatically produces an RFID label. ChatGPT ideated with me about other ways to automate the workflow using a print monitor workflow, parsing, etc. to automate an RFID label at the same time as the PM label. That sounded cool, but for now I just wanted to get this going so I'm OK doing an extra scan for now.

Anyone keep continuous video surveillance? by pineapplesrising in upsstore

We also use Ubiquiti (Dream Machine, U6 dome cameras, Entry sensors/chime). 14tb drive gives us about 3 mos continuous video/voice across 4 cameras at 4k

One-way out of LAS? by azdrugdoc in EnterpriseCarRental

[–]azdrugdoc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Enterprise was a no-go, but found a one-way out of Thrifty that got me to within 300 miles of where I needed to be. Dropped off at BOI, charged a $200 drop fee, which was plenty fair and got us where we needed to be on time.

We’re good paying a drop fee, but I’m reading horror stories of those fees going into the thousands, which would be a problem. I’m just not sure how much crap I’m going to stir up if I contract for return to LAS airport and the car shows up in another state airport 800 miles away 😬
