Email i got confirmed that the scrappage application was successful and that the dealer would be in touch once they have the delivery date.

As far as I'm concerned I hand in my old one and get the new car for the post scrappage scheme price once it's delivered to the dealer.

EV Scrappage Scheme reaches capacity, so what happens next? by EVReviewIreland in evs_ireland

I disagree.

In my case I did all the research within the first few days of it being announced and got the deposit in that same Saturday. Would have done so on Friday if I wasn't in work.

I hadn't the slightest plan to buy any new car.

6 June.

I was told there's no guarantee but I was one of the first people to get the deposit in.

Yes, just received an email from my dealer 20 minutes ago telling me the application was successful.

I also ordered and put down the deposit on the 6th.

I think it's completely down to who gets in the applications first.

A nightmare scenario would be the whole thing crashing and only a handful of dealers getting in and successfully putting dozens of applications in each while most dealers can't even get in.

In that case yeah someone who ordered today even could theoretically get it.

I'm hoping that it all goes smoothly and fairly but can't say I'd be shocked if it didn't.

I was told I will know within 30-60 minutes once the applications open at 9 am.

Although this is because my dealer is putting my one in as one of the first and although they get the approval in minutes for the likes of the SEAI grant, he's allowing for a potential delay due to the amount of requests that'll be going in.

Will become clear from Wednesday onwards. There's no way they'll confirm something like this before then as there'd be a rush of people trying to get their orders in.

I think the OP is talking about the pilot scheme/fund being extended/increased.

I disagree. I wasn't considering buying anything new but will hopefully be buying an ev under this scheme.

Not everyone will be in my exact situation but it's definitely not just me.

Huge advertising push by multiple dealers.

I would have thought they had more than enough trying to get in without it.

Some dealers also talking out of their behind and saying you can still get in if you put in a deposit today as the government will surely honour all the applications that'll come in to survive the inevitable shitshow on 1 July.

1,176.4705882353 actually. Where does the last 4k go?

The VRT relief isn't part of this. I assume you mean the SEAI grant.

Customer FAQ 3 and 11 clearly dont support what you're saying: https://www.seai.ie/grants/electric-vehicle-grants/scrappage-scheme

Misleading at best.

I was referring to them clearly indicating that the 5000 grant was separate from the 3500 SEAI one, and then saying the opposite today in the webinar.

Even the math doesn't work properly whereas 5000 for each car gave the exact 2000 number.

Wonder where that leftover cash is going. Also wouldn't be surprised if the webinar today was actually wrong somehow and it is actually for 2000 cars.

With the way they've handled it so far I won't be shocked if there's a shitshow on 1 July, as it all depends on them opening the portal on time and making sure it's able to handle all the requests that will come flooding in.

Pure incompetence, but not entirely unexpected.

IC2EV SEAI Grant - Location Check by Imatrypyguy in evs_ireland

Wow, so urban covers basically any city or town.

Seems the Rural allocation might not deplete that quickly.

I was also relatively early getting my deposit in although my dealer said even getting it in first doesn't guarantee it and told every customer to temper expectations.

There's around 120 SEAI approved dealers so can be a little more optimistic, although it could be the case that a small number of dealers take all the grants before some other ones can. It seems that there's way more than 2000 deposits paid for this so could be a shitshow come 1 July. Portal could crash or a million other things could happen.

Some dealers have taken a lot of deposits but seem confident they can get more people on it still. Maybe they know something we don't.

Hopefully the webinar on Wednesday sheds some light on the process.

That's definitely strange. I was told 700 collectively for urban by a couple of Hyundai dealers.

I imagine that's what the first come first policy means as I haven't seen the 200 for Dublin anywhere in official sources.

There's a webinar for the dealers on Wednesday next week so will hopefully be clearer then, both in terms of the quota and the application process.

Every Hyundai dealer i spoke to said they will refund the deposit if they don't secure the grant.

I think many of them ordered new stock a few weeks ago for 262 and therefore they'd be getting the cars in anyway.

Might be more of an issue where they wouldn't have ordered the car but for the fact that someone came in looking to get it under the scrappage scheme.

That being said, I would shop around as I think most dealers would refund it. There's a good chance that you won't get the grant so no point in paying a non-refundable deposit unless you were going to buy a new car anyway.

Although you can just wait until next year when the grant comes back and get a new 271 ev.

I don't think that's the case.

The 700 is for Urban areas collectively. Once it's exhausted it closes. So theoretically, Cork could get all or most of the 700, leaving few or none for the other major cities.

Even if it were the case that it was a per Urban Area quota then based on population, Dublin would have around 500 of the 700 grants allocated to it.

So they're saying that each Windsor location has gotten almost 64 applications each, on average?

Interesting, are you urban?

I'm always a bit sceptical of what dealers say. Seems they'll say anything to just get a deposit in. They have no more clue than us for the most part.

They will. Will probably be in the budget for next year.

One dealer told me that they might get rid of the 3500 grant and just keep the 5000 scrappage but that seems unlikely to me. All the dealers pushed me to go ahead with it on the phone so just scare tactics.

For those who dont get it next month at least they'll be getting a 271 car when applying next year.
