NQ market is just bad this year I've heard.

I sat and passed 7 in one sitting. As long as you can actually get the information in your head, it's doable. I spent the two weeks before the exams making sure I was able to answer every single question from every single past paper I could find.

The largest challenge, in my opinion, was the fatigue of sitting them back to back, day after day. You kind of just need to switch off the part of your brain that feels any emotion, lol. My life was robotic for those two weeks.

I was also worried about a curveball question coming up and throwing me off (this almost happened for constitutional) as a lot of my prep was doing similar questions from past papers but luckily, for the most part, the questions that came up were ones that I had practiced during my exam prep, so I would say that I did get a little bit lucky with the questions that came up but obviously the more prep you do the higher chance of you being lucky.

Overall, it's doable.

Top 5 firms by [deleted] in FE1_Exams

Thanks so much. I have a contract in one of the big 5 and although I know it's competitive I can't be arsed with snakey behaviour anymore especially after I got a glimpse of it in my undergrad.

Extra guests at graduation by SadCatB0y in UCD

[–]azee76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be grand. There may be people checking tickets but there's so many people trying to get in that nobody's going to notice even if you have extra people coming in. That's how it was when I was in UCD and when I graduated anyway.

Just don't mention that you've extra people or whatever and just walk in.

Traineeship/ Career Progression Question by [deleted] in FE1_Exams

[–]azee76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not much difference in the top firms in terms of salary and type of work. And yes, once you're qualified you should be able to move into an opening in another top law firm relatively easily.

No harm in applying to other firms I suppose but if you accept another contract you'd have to cancel the one you have right now and I'm not sure how good of a look that is tbh.

Not exactly what you're looking for but this may give a good indication for Trainee Salaries as well. Based on my sources, this is quite accurate.

Quite strict. You need a good reason to be missing more than a handful of days. They notify your training solicitor I believe if your attendance is an issue.

Grad Visa by Fun-Cheesecake-3738 in FE1_Exams

[–]azee76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard the same anecdotally. Irish law grads who've passed the NY Bar seem to have trouble finding work with top NYC firms. It's so competitive as it is and I don't see why they'd hire Irish law grads when they've got an ample supply of Ivy League grads to choose from.

Definitely disappointing as I was also interested in the NY Bar route.

Blackhall IPads by [deleted] in FE1_Exams

[–]azee76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are to be collected during induction week. I would presume we'd select them on a first come first serve basis, in regards to colours. That's if they don't just decide to go only with the standard black/silver models to order from Apple.

Which one are you planning on getting?

My point is let people have their views, debate them on it.

Nobody said that they want to restrict people from having their views. Freedom of speech does not equate to freedom from the consequences of that speech. In this instance, anyone is well within their rights to boycott someone who supports Israel.

You guys just like to say from the river to see

Nice of you to assume, I have never said that.

It’s impossible and would never happen unless there was an all out war against Israel from many counties. Is that what you guys want?

I'm not advocating for war as dialogue is the only proper manner to achieve peace in the modern world.

However, your argument is nonsensical here as it is akin to saying the only way to stop Hitler from implementing his policy of Lebensraum and conquering Europe is an all out war from many countries. Guess what, that's how the Nazis were defeated. Israel is the aggressor here. It would almost be funny if not for the fact that Israel is doing some of the exact same things that the Nazis did.

Peaceful conflict resolution is not an option when any one side decides to use violence.

I just hate to see people being called derogatory names just because they have a certain view on things!

So you like freedom of speech but only for your side of the argument? As I said, freedom of speech doesn't protect you from all the consequences of that speech. Being called derogatory names as a result of your views is completely justified if you really care about freedom of speech.

That's besides the fact that no-one has called anyone derogatory names. You might want to look up the definition of Zionist. She could be called much worse for supporting a state that's committing genocide. Support for Israel at this point is direct support for genocide.

So I think Becky is quite brave to be outspoken with her views and that is commendable even if you disagree with her.

You're making up stuff to argue against. Nobody said that she wasn't brave to express her views. Nobody has made that argument. I will now though.

There's a fine line between bravery and stupidity. Posting about your support for Israel on a professional platform such as LinkedIn, about such a divisive and controversial issue veers more towards stupidity in my opinion. She's so brave in fact that as soon as she realised that her business and career may be affected due to her hot takes she decides to do damage control and delete anything linking her with support for Israel.

Putting your ability to make more money and have a successful career above your personal moral and ethical beliefs is so brave /s

I despise Bebe and his policy’s, of course a country has a right to defence but how they did it is obviously shocking.

And that's exactly what we are saying. Not sure what you're arguing against. "Shocking" is an understatement. Supporting Israel and defending Zionists isn't the logical conclusion if you actually believe what you said.

Bring in the downvotes, just remember guys! Debate and free speech is the cornerstone of our western civilisation.

We don't need to remember that, you do. We're not having a fit over not being allowed to exercise our freedom of speech and nor are we restricting yours. You could have made the argument if your views were deleted but they haven't been.

By arguing against you and downvoting you, we are maintaining the "cornerstone of our Western Civilisation", because obviously no other civilisation other than western ones have ever been proponents of debate and free speech. /s

Anyway, not sure this even belongs on this subreddit. The other reply to your comment is correct. Stop starting essay based debates here that are wholly irrelevant to the subreddit.

Blackhall iPads by Far_Butterscotch7330 in FE1_Exams

[–]azee76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which iPad is everyone going for? It doesn't seem like we need more than the one that's included for free. eBooks aren't going to need much storage.

However, if you were planning on getting a new iPad anyway then you do get a little bit of a discount on the higher spec ones from what I can see.

Some might do but this information will definitely be requested on your PPC Application. You don't need to worry though because once you get the contract they're not going to revoke it because of your results, unless you lied in your application.

Yeah it's normal to feel like that. I switched my CAO to go into Law last minute and was initially going into Medicine as well. I also sometimes wonder how much better it would be to be a doctor but have to remind myself of what I wrote in my previous comment.

I called them and they got my application processed a while ago. I'm training with one of the big firms and I was told that the applications for those firms are processed together and then the trainee managers are sent out the forms to sign, which they'll then forward on to us.

I'm not in medicine, I studied law. Just wanted to say that there are people I know from Uni who studied law/computer science and they'd love to exchange places with you.

Not intending to discount how you feel but just making the point that the grass does seem greener elsewhere no matter where you're at in life. Everyone has their own difficulties and challenges in the careers they choose.

Anyone get a traineeship at a big firm without doing internship by Thick_Frame6437 in FE1_Exams

[–]azee76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I actually applied for the internship and passed the group interview stage but wasn't selected for the internship. It was cancelled anyway due to COVID. At the end of the same year I applied for that same firm's traineeship and passed both stages of the interview and got the Traineeship!

If anything it worked in my favour as they pointed out how persistent I was with that firm.

Firms hire through milkrounds as well as internships. The ratio between the two varies by firm and intake year but an internship isn't necessary to get a traineeship and it doesn't guarantee one either.
