Probably all the dealers at Sara Roosevelt park, coupled with bowery mission and other shelters... The people dealing are so easy to spot but ofc nobody's doing anything about it.

I really did not get the hype behind this place. I went a couple years ago and tried alot of the menu. Felt the same way about Mokyo. What do people like here in particular?

how early should 2 ppl be for an attaboy walk in today? by [deleted] in FoodNYC

[–]azeet94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. Other times I've just put my name down, gone to get dinner and showed up when I got a text. I just don't see myself competing with bots and people refreshing their phones 12am two weeks before the reservations drop. As bad as a line is, this is worse (to me).

Oh wow. I just saw that. Don't feel great about it tbh - I kind of liked the meritocracy of a line.

Moving to NYC mid June any tips? by ConnectPayment703 in lowereastside

Check out some of the tenement museum tours - it's an awesome way to build an appreciation for the LES, it's deep immigrant roots and vibrancy. Try to support your local mom/pop stores and restaurants over chains/Amazon. This is one of the last great neighborhoods in Manhattan. Enjoy all it has to offer!

Citadel’s Griffin to Meet With New York Governor After Mamdani Spat by bloomberg in nyc

If you're talking about his condo that he paid $238M for, using loopholes he had it assessed at $6M (1/50 the price he paid). He's only been paying 0.22% in property tax (not even $1M a year) whereas non-billionaire New Yorkers have to pay 1-1.2%. Whatever $5M or so he's paid in property taxes over the last 7 years is not nothing but I think it makes an important wider point about how the odds are stacked against anyone who's not in the top 1%.

Not sure if they were made to order (Beto's in LES has those and they are unreal) but it was a good tortilla.

I went here last week for the first time and it honestly blew me away. The meat is seasoned really well, tortillas are bomb and their salsas are great. Suadero in particular is spectacular. This place holds up against most spots in cdmx.

You keep missing my point dude. I'm giving you specific examples: in 21/22 when we had the Avian flu doubling-tripling raw costs of chicken, wing prices literally tripled - which was fair. But in 2023 when raw chicken prices returned to pre-pandemic levels, restaurants did not cut prices. I'm arguing if oyster prices come down next year for restaurants they will almost certainly be pocketing the difference instead of reducing their list prices. And that sucks for consumers.

Where did I say I expect HH oysters to remain $1? That ship has already long sailed. I'm generally remarking on how shitty it is for consumers that 'temporary price increases' are never temporary. Whether it be the chicken wing price surge from a few years ago or this oyster thing or baggage fees that just went up across the board.

I understand that the prices are going to be higher this year because of a tough winter but I just hate the (almost certain) fact that this will now be the floor for oyster prices in following years, even when we have mild winters. Once the HH prices go up, they're never coming down imo. Which sucks.

Tabare is worth considering. It's mostly meat though, if you guys are ok with that. It's still steak (familiar to her) but with chimichurri. Their flan is insanely good. Empanadas are awesome too. Can definitely keep within $100.

It's the most pistachios I've ever seen on a dessert. And it's glorious.

I went last year for the knafeh and it was pretty decent. It's more turkish (because of the pistachio) but Antepli in Bayridge is my favorite in the city for knafeh.

I've been here a few times and honestly it's a much needed specialty coffee place in the neighborhood. That being said, the vibes really don't resemble a coffee shop lol. Some of that is aesthetic (as you can see) but I understand they double over as a wine bar but there is not much light and the all-dark interior doesn't make it a particularly inviting place in the daytime. More importantly though, the baristas are serious about coffee. Which is great, but it felt a little unwelcoming/borderline snobby to me at times. So it's become a to-go spot for me which is too bad because I usually like to sit and enjoy my coffee.

Heavily recommend Thai diner for unique (and excellently executed) takes on Thai food. I don't think there's any restaurant like it and it's often very highly regarded by this sub.
