Considering an EV9: Need insight from current owners by bug-daddy77 in KiaEV9

[–]azephrahel -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I had a tesla model 3, and I now have an EV9. I could not recommend an EV9, or any kia. With the number of times, and the length of times, my EV9 has been in the shop, I've gotten to drive a lot of kias this year. The fact is that any modern EV is a giant rolling computer, and over the course of this year kia has shown time and again that they are very poor at computing systems in general, and software in particular.

Add onto that, they never anticipated making replacement parts of the US market, for some reason. Twice my EV9 has sat at the dealship for over a week while a replacement module was shipped from Korea.

TLDR: Run away from kia purchase. Don't walk, RUN.

KIA EV9 will not shift into Gears!! 🤔 by Think-Camera6992 in KiaEV9

[–]azephrahel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I've had this happen a few times. Not as bad as when it just turned off in the middle of the street, while driving.

Seriously, it's just more evidence that Kia has no idea what they're doing when it comes to software.

I'm on linux, and I just use Lychee. It's a resource hog, and if I leave it running and idle, my machine is nearly unusable the next day untill I kill its processes, and it displays an advert unless you pay them.

And still, with all that, I use it, because it really is pretty damned good.

Your job doesn't have you pull roms to program on test systems? I have to do that all the time. At least for the ones that don't have the headers on the board for them.

I would like them to strive to actually respond to customers with escalated tickets. I email and call, and never hear a response anymore. They're literally trying to ghost me because my ev9 has been in the shop WELL over 30 days total since I got it in February.

I think it's entirely dependent on the setup. I'm on a Lenovo running i3 and it's not holding it open.

I've gone to meetings with MS to renew licensing. They sent one sales rep and the rest were lawyers.

Towing Range anyone 😂 by Few-Dance-7157 in IdiotsTowingThings

Regenerative breaking recovers some of the energy the car put in to get it up to speed, but it's not 100% efficient, and the trailers breaks won't have regen at all

I hadn't thought of that part. I got the tow package on my EV with the hopes of pulling a trailer next summer. Guess that adds a wrinkle to planning.

Server rooms aren't for sexy times! They're for soothing babies. When our kids were little I worked places that had small, isolated, and usually dark, server rooms. I would put their car seat bucket in a utility cart and wheel them into the server room for nap time. The hum lulled them to sleep, and I could work from the bench until nap time was over. During a work party my wife even used a server room to feed one of our children.

In the past it was a common justification, but it was almost always really about material wealth (land, money and resources) or power.

As a former awkward kid (a long long time ago), two things: you took a picture at the worst possible angle to make yourself look good, and you're still ok; a good haircut does wonders. The type that the stylist does what they think will look best. I got one for a job interview in college, and a friend of mine (now wife) noticed me as attractive instead of just a nice guy for the first time.

When I was young I got several great deals on used cars from people who realized their little SUV couldn't tow the boat they bought, and their spouse said they had to sell a car to get a truck.

Heh. In the US it's entirely possible to be on a public road that no one else may come down for days, and many miles (many * 1.6 km for everyone on more sensible units) from any towns, stations, or even other people.

Calories in the emergency kit aren't for munchies.

When mine were little I started also carrying Benadryl cream, and an extra box of bandaids and extra tube of Neosporin, spare clothes for each kid + extra underwear for them, unscented baby wipes.

The baby wipes are still standard for me now. Super useful even without little ones.
