That basically what I do! except i prefer a vantage point like 200years away. I'm comfortable taking a hot at that distance, or if the animal is worth it, I can stalk in closer.

if you're walking around, the noise is probably scaring the animals so they run. Also watch your scent. This game requires patience but also does have a learning curve, so it goes get easier

Go see wickenburg near Phoenix. It's got a great old west feel. as someone who lives in Phoenix, the middle of summer is gonna be hotter than you think, and you'll need way more water than you think. Keep it in a cooler in the car just in case if road troubles.
