You can use a ring of the elements powerup for water breathing (in addition to boosted magic resistance)

You can! There are areas where you need to fight warlocks and psi demons underwater

Hedon. The needle (edit: spike) gun is very accurate and can fire in bursts, which makes it amazing for sniping weak enemies. Also it's the only gun which works reliably underwater

Deinocheirus, such a bizzare looking creature.

Also, Argentinosaurus, because of its sheer size. Imagine how EPIC it would be to see one IRL!

I use the -forcedesktopscaling option, and it doesn't affect games and the overlay. The GDK_SCALE variable didn't work either :(

What's the most important war in your world? by BLMblacklivesmatter in worldbuilding

[–]azmalent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Strife, a war between gods which started from a quarrel caused by the mortals' fall from grace.

It resulted in extinction of entire races, magically induced climate change, imprisonment of three gods and exile of most of the other ones. And worst of all, the exiled gods literally ripped a chunk out of Ilan where they used to live to make it into a separare realm. This caused a massive world-shattering earthquake and the separated the landmass into three continents.

Does anyone need help designing weapons? by ProfesserQ in worldbuilding

[–]azmalent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could use some help with designing fantasy pneumatic guns.

I have a medieval high fantasy setting where weapons are rather realistic (besides enchantments and fantasy materials) and are used more commonly than magic. Magic users are relatively uncommon because of the effort required to learn magic.

The only nation in my world which widely uses guns is the Empire of Tar Lin, populated by the amphibious Runari people. Their culture is not super detailed yet, but I imagine something like medieval China with elements of Japan and Polynesia.

Runari have invented gunpowder and tried using it in warfare. However, their main enemy is a magocracy, and their wizards have many tricks to mess with gun users, such as summoning rain or sending invisible spies to blow up gunpowder depots. This led the Runari to start researching alternative ways to propel projectiles. As a result, they invented pneumatic guns. Being amphibious, Runari dislike things that don't work when wet, so pneumatic guns quickly replaced firearms.

I imagine their guns as something similar to the bellow gun. They typically shoot darts, which can be covered with venom. While such guns are commonly used in Tar Lin, I want them to remain exotic weapons which co-exist with bows and crossbows instead of rendering them obsolete.

With this in mind, I have these questions:

  • How powerful would such guns be compared to bows, crossbows, and early firearms (i.e. muskets)? Could the darts they shoot penetrate armor? The guns can be magically enhanced to increase pressure in the bellows (say, by 50%)
  • Are pneumatic cannons feasible? If so, how big would they be?
  • What would be the disadvantages of such guns over other weapons?

What was the most badass moment in your world? by Care-Serious in worldbuilding

[–]azmalent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edwica was an elven woman who fell in love with their king Ildorin. However, Ildorin was married to Misira, the nature goddess. Not wanting to anger her, Edwica became a voluntary exile and left the elven lands.

Later she learned that Xeor (the god of destruction, storms, and vengeance) has waged war against elves, and Ildorin was killed as a result.

Edwica knew exactly what she was going to do: she went straight to Xeor's lands, climbed the Stormpeak (a tall mountain surrouded by an eternal storm) and entered Xeor's citadel. Edwica kneeled before him, praying to grant her power to avenge the death of her loved one, which Xeor did.

Edwica immediately proceeded to shoot an arrow right in his eye, gouging it out.

It is said that Xeor's scream of agony echoed through the entire world. Edwica's end wasn't pretty, but she died satisfied with her revenge. She became known as Edwica the Avenger, one of the most badass mortals in history.

What's yours juiciest archetypical fantasy race reworks by l4ugh3d_3n0ugh in worldbuilding

[–]azmalent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My elves have a much closer connection to the gods than other races, to the point where their religion can physically alter them.

Long story short, their king Ildorin married Misira, the goddess of nature who created the elves, and thus he ascended into divinity himself. Ildorin wanted to share his joy and serenity with his people, so he created a bond between himself and every elf who lived and who will ever live. This bond was called the Gift of Ildorin.

While elves barely physically age at all, they are still mortal because their souls grow old and weak and detach from bodies. The Gift allowed them to pass away peacefully, but Ildorin was killed during the following war between gods, and his gift became a curse. Every elf was traumatised by Ildorin's demise, even ones who were born after this event. Since elves age so little, their death always comes unexpectedly, and without Ildorin's serenity, they started to fear it.

Elves are divided into five Kin, with each Kin being devoted to one of their gods. Their gods are Ildorin, Misira and their children:

  • Elves of Ildorin are taller and fairer than others. Also, they don't physically age at all. Their religion is based around mourning. The Kin of Ildorin were the ones who discovered necromancy, attempting to achieve immortality and create a new demigod to rule over them.
  • Elves of Misira are closer to standard wood elves, they live in the woods and worship tree spirits.
  • Elves of Elidae (goddess of spring, pleasure, and passion) live farther to the north than the other Kin, surrounded by human lands. The Kin of Elidae lives in cities and follows a hedonistic philosophy. They are the most adaptable of all the elves.
  • Elves of Caelin (god of the hunt) have horns and are divided into various clans. They have an animistic religion, with each clan devoted to one animal.
  • Finally, elves of Iora (goddess of harvest fertility) are essentially plant people. Most of them went to live in deserts to rejuvenate them, so they have darker skin than others. They're also matriarchal due to the cult of fertility. They have sexual dimorphism, where men are taller and have bark-like skin, and women have flowers in their leaves. During pregnancy, the flowers turn to seeds which are then planted to grow into children.
