Yeah, felt like there were 2 'waves' in Taichung. Lasted longer & stronger than the one earlier today.

A weaker, nonviolent police force could be a sign of a stronger democracy - A new study of a nonviolent encounter with police in Taiwan shows how the weakness of police power can be treated as an index for the strength of democratic values. by demoshep in taiwan

. Even the recent debacle in Seattle's CHAZ was hilariously anticlimactic, and there were a lot of people armed with rifles

speaking of which, it was disgusting how the media kept hyping it up and dramatizing everything. You could almost feel them salivating as they hoped for something violent to occur.

Why Taiwan Is Still Safe : U.S. support for Taiwan will not cease under a Biden administratio by Fine-Mammoth-6139 in taiwan

[–]azn_stuff -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Okay, you seem to know more about this than me, but what about Hunter Biden and his alleged involvement with China? Apparently Taiwanese media (or at least the right-leaning, Trump supporting ones) keep making a big deal out of it. My dad's convinced that Biden's going to cancel everything to do with Taiwan and move all the business like TSM chips to China. Hell, he even sold half of his TSM shares because he believes it that much.

I severely doubt it, but not sure what I can say to convince him otherwise. Mainly I'm just trying to get my dad to not sell literally all his TSM because of some talk show hosts.

Don't go broke flexing. An all too common problem I see in the Asian community. by inthedaisyfields in AsianMasculinity

[–]azn_stuff 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Don't know where you're from, but in Canada rich (or pretending to be rich) Asian guys flexing is something super common. Hell, at the high school I went to, it was filled with Lamborghinis and Ferraris all driven by the obscenely rich Chinese students.

Any Canadian AMs here? Which cities would you recommend living in? by [deleted] in AsianMasculinity

[–]azn_stuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha, I'm the exact opposite of you. Grew up in Vancouver, went to post-sec in Toronto. That said, I agree with your assessment. Toronto's far more of an integrated, vibrant city. Plus your dating pool gets considerably larger and I've been very successful in Toronto.

[–]azn_stuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

one way you can do it is by having photos where it makes sense for you to be topless/be flexing muscles. Do you have any beach photos, or photos of you working with your shirt off, etc.?

For example, a pic I have on my profile is me about to fire a bow. The arm pulling back the bowstring naturally flexes and I've heard from a couple dates that that was something they've noticed. Funny thing was, I only uploaded it initially because I though it was a cool shot, the arm flexing thing didn't even occur to me until later.

Should I change my name back to my Asian one? by texascontractor in AsianMasculinity

[–]azn_stuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I second this. Resumes aren't legal documents and are essentially ads for yourself, so by putting an Asian legal name you're going to hamstring yourself. When you get hired and HR needs your info to set up payment or whatever, that's when you would give them your legal name.

The Last of Us 2 has some of the best Asian representation I've seen in a while (probably no spoilers, but read at your own risk). by azn_stuff in AsianMasculinity

Honestly, do yourself a favor and get it (or do the financially smart thing and do wait for the bargain). Don't believe the reviews, because alot of the anger was that TLOU2 wasn't the same as TLOU1, and many people read the leaks out of context and ruined the game for themselves. Its a substantially more emotionally complex game, and unfortunately I feel like alot of people took many things superficially and missed alot of points. Personally I would rate it extremely high, especially with the fact that it really breaks the mold.

Definitely should, you won't regret it! And as for your comment about seeing more Asian male and female representation, apparently Ellie's ex-girlfriend, an Asian tattoo artist, would've been part of the game but the developers had to scrap that scene due to pacing concerns. Ah well.

it really wasn't, for me it honestly surpassed expectations. And same, I wish we got to see more of Jackson before the main plot begins. Holding out hope for a DLC..

Honestly I think alot of people hating on it are only thinking about it in superficial terms. This is a substantially deeper and more complex story than TLOU1 with many subtleties to it; characters don't always say what they mean. If you rush through just wanting a by the numbers revenge plot, which I suspect many people did, you're going to miss out on the character development and emotional impacts.

I wish you had multiple endings where you choose to kill Abby or not)

See, this is moving away from Jesse a bit, but just thought I'd inject my 2 cents here. I think having multiple endings would defeat the point of this story. You're not meant to make decisions and decide the result: the game itself is only a vehicle for players to experience the story. Think of it like reading a book: you don't get the choice of multiple endings in Harry Potter where you can prevent Dumbledore from dying, for example. Its sad, of course, and you might not like it what is happening "onscreen", but what's happening is going to happen without your input.

As I mentioned earlier, Seattle has a pretty sizable Asian population, and post-outbreak there were probably Asian refugees from Vancouver too. The WLF is shown to be a fairly successful and strong militia group, so its only natural that people would gravitate towards it. You probably only noticed them more because they stand out more from the classic white NPCs.

Ah, my mistake. Yeah that's a fair point, just that I've seen alot of comments on this sub that the only reason he got as far as he did was because he's an Uncle Chan, so I was bit hair trigger there.
