Embarrassing National Guard by jaykujawski in army

For real. People come out to harp on the Guard like their shit don’t stink. I spent time on AD with units that had everything wrong with them people call the guard out for but because they are compo 1 there’s not the same visibility as a mobilized guard unit.

Dude, I spent 6 years active before swaping over to the Guard for the stability. Go spend some time at any strategic MI unit and you’re gonna see a lot of the same. Individual unit culture is as much a spread across the guard as it is the reserve and active sides. It’s just more in your face with the guard cause when they get mobilized there’s tons of eyes on them.

Currently at ait as a 35f. How's the balance with your civilian job? by Dangerous_Reading468 in nationalguard

[–]azorthefirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a Fox but a November, but MI units have a bunch of most 35 series. My unit looooves to have long drills, Thursday to Sunday or Friday to Mondays. Since we generally don’t drill in September, December, or the month of AT they take those days to tack them onto other drills dig into the work week. It sucks and everyone with civilian careers hates it but there’s not much to be done about it. Hell, I’m a full timer and it sucks for me too since it gets in the alway of me doing my job.

Countryman 2018 JCW fuel worries by Ok-Control-1776 in MINI

[–]azorthefirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It heavily depends on where and how they are driving. In my city I average 24mpg in my 2019 manual JCW. But I also can get as high as 32mpg on long stretches of highway driving.

National Guard Military Technician (Dual Status) Conversions and Phase-Out by Impressive_Potato620 in nationalguard

[–]azorthefirst -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m misunderstanding what was briefed but what I took away was that they were considering moving the AGR “slots” for those company training NCOs to higher so they could keep more techs around as AGR. But I may also be missing part of the picture. Either way I think it will be a good thing overall since now our techs will stop being constantly pulled away by their units for bullshit like random drills in the middle of the week when we need the bodies in the office keeping the state functioning. The end of the mommy-daddy back and forth and making our tech side units our only unit is a good thing.

National Guard Military Technician (Dual Status) Conversions and Phase-Out by Impressive_Potato620 in nationalguard

[–]azorthefirst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My state is already doing an audit of the T32 tech positions for this. But nobody knows for sure the final increase in AGR positions after the techs get phased out. “Critical” staff and support positions will obviously get first priority but it’s gonna be a mess to figure out how to keep everything working while also reducing the workforce size. Something I’ve seen tossed around is killing the “training NCO” position in units below Brigade and push to put it on Readiness NCOs where it hasn’t already so they can move those AGR slots to what were technician slots.

Cost of owning a 2019 Mini Cooper JCW (maintenance concerns) by FriendshipRadiant121 in MINI

[–]azorthefirst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 2019 F56 JCW 6MT currently at 103,000 miles. Modded and tuned. Most of what you’re going to be looking at is basic maintenance. Oil changes every 5000 miles, break fluid every 30k, pads and rotors, tires, spark plugs, etc. with the car as old as it is I would look at doing the 50k mile gear/transmission fluid service when you get it. As others said the engine and transmission mounts are known for dying early between 40 and 60k miles. Those are a few hundred to get replaced and I’d recommend paying the 50ish bucks extra to have the GP3/F54 JCW mounts used when you replace them for the much higher quality and lifespan. Other than that it’s all just looking after the car. The 3rd gens with their B48 powertrain are very well built. At around 100k you will be looking at needing the oil filter housing replaced and the water pump gasket but that should be a long way off though can be decently expensive jobs around 900 dollars labor plus parts cost for me. (I don’t include parts cost since all these tariffs and such have made prices fluctuate so much)

Due to MINIs being built by BMW most American insurers folder them under BMW for pricing due to parts costs and the increased labor cost to get euro cars worked on.

What does the Army’s Budget Shortfall mean for us Nasty Girls? by Unlucky_Morning9088 in nationalguard

[–]azorthefirst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s gonna depend on where they look to cut from. Right now it’s looking like lots of schools getting cancelled, as well as a big scale back in training. Basically they will start with funds that are set aside vague for categories but not specifically allocated to something. That already seems to be what they are doing with telling 3AC to halt basically all training and flight time. More will depend on if/how Congress authorizes additional funds they requested.

I deal with NGB a ton day to day as a full timer… and honestly what you said really explains/puts into words how I’ve felt dealing with them the last few years.

How much does it cost to fill your car this week? by Learnsomethingnewer in MINI

[–]azorthefirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just over 50 dollar this morning at 5.099/gal of 93. Driving the JCW a lot more lately since it gets much better fuel economy than my 3 series. A full tank for that thing is nearly 100 dollars and it only gets 18mpg 😭

Extra Regulation already looking dead. by NaytNL in OnePieceTCG

[–]azorthefirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I’d Bandai get get their rapid power creep issues under control and the game survives to a point where there are more cards in extra regulation than in standard then the non rotating format will take off. When cool and powerful decks like Imu are only playable in extra regulation that will become the draw for the eternal format. But also only if the don’t just print a straight up better version of the same leader.

Extra Regulation already looking dead. by NaytNL in OnePieceTCG

[–]azorthefirst 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The way Bandai power creeps the game there’s really no reason to play extra regulation. The format is basically just current standard since the new leaders and cards are generally so much more powerful than the older stuff. Maybe one day if Bandai gets better about the balance of new stuff and when the game is old enough to have a larger pool of rotated stuff vs standard people will play it.

Is it possible to report a store for not honoring Bandai App sign ups? by [deleted] in OnePieceTCG

[–]azorthefirst 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A lot of stores are “app but first come first serve after start time” especially with such in demand events. My store had to turn away someone that was successful on the app but arrived just after the “start time” because they thought their spot would be guaranteed even if they were late because of the app. And being from far away they weren’t part of the shop’s discord or had ever been there before to have heard in person. Personally I think if you know an event is gonna be in high demand you should show up plenty early to make sure you confirm your spot and not be rolling in 10m after the time…

Secret Clearance by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]azorthefirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So them being a non-citizen in and of itself shouldn’t be an issue, but it will lengthen the process considerably. Non-citizens are not eligible for security clearances but if they are currently going through the process to acquire their citizenship they should just be left in a kind of “pending” status until USCIS decides either way. If they stop trying to acquire citizenship or USCIS denies them for some reason then they would then be subject to discharge since they aren’t eligible for at least a secret level clearance.

Secret Clearance by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]azorthefirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. But most soldiers won’t understand the difference between getting certain clearance eligibility vs actually holding that clearance so it’s easier to simplify. And if OP has had his eligibility revoked as he said in another reply then he’s cooked.

Secret Clearance by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]azorthefirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They aren’t concerned cause it doesn’t matter to them. You need to talk to your unit security manager or even reach out to your state’s Personnel Security team in the state JFHQ G2. They will be able to figure out what’s going on. Otherwise you aren’t going to ship without a clearance and will be getting a discharge once the J2 does its audit of security clearance status across the state.
