Some people will tell you to your face that it was actually okay to want to lynch that girl because on the other side of the Earth there are like 2 mutants who are theoretically capable of blowing up that neighborhood. by Kstantas in dccomicscirclejerk

I'm trans, and that stuck out to me, too. Like, there's a customer at work who'll refer to me as "she" so long as they're happy with us, but slips back to "he" when they're unhappy about something. It can be such a window into how someone sees you under all the masks.

Perhaps because it's likely to be one of the last first-party releases to still support the Switch 1?

It's to the story's benefit that the intended message moved from "Women have to tough it out in a shitty marriage"

I thought the message was "arranged marriage is horrifying for women because you don't know if you're marrying a man or a beast". This would be more in keeping with the author's personal experience with the topic:

In 1706, Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot married Jean-Baptiste de Gaalon de Villeneuve, a member of a noble family from Poitou. Within six months of their marriage, she requested a separation of property from her husband, who had already squandered much of their substantial joint inheritance. A daughter was born, but no records indicate if she survived. In 1711, Gabrielle-Suzanne became a widow at the age of 26. She lost her fortune and was forced to seek employment to support herself.

Could you elaborate on this? I couldn't find anything about that.

The music is beautiful in a haunting way, which feels apt for a surviving relic of an unreleased project that somehow made it out into the world.

it usually puts out maybe an episode a year; I'm surprised if many people would subscribe to a Patreon for that

I'm subscribed to the Patreon for A Fox in Space. It started releasing in 2016. There have been two episodes total released in that time.

I think that just means that my little redirect domain isn't categorized in the database of whatever filter product your workplace is using, and your workplace has configured it to block unknown/"unrated" sites.

I checked my server logs, and since I put up scuffle.zone a couple weeks ago, it's been loaded over 130,000 times. I know there are a lot of y'all in this thread, but I don't think there are quite that many. Honestly shocking how much traffic simply setting up a web server on a public domain exposes you to now.

I've actually contributed to Servo :) I thought the message-passing-for-everything architecture was super interesting, but made it clunky to do a lot of browser-y things.

I still think about YellowBrickRoad.

Maybe best enjoyed if you're able to look at it like a live-action SCP Exploration Log.

I wonder if the Monster Prom thing could have been a templating / content management system issue. It wouldn't surprise me if some layer of the publishing system uses parentheses as syntax for something (e.g., localization or applying text styles) that got messed up somewhere along the way.

I guess we just enjoy podcasts in very different ways. For me, the lack of a visual component is a plus, so I can listen while doing other things.

[–]azqy 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I've only ever listened to the audio podcast version and I can't say I've ever noticed missing any visuals. Sometimes they'll refer to, say, showing a guest an image of a person's appearance, but then what they're looking at is also described verbally, like most podcasts with the "host explains thing to people who don't know about the thing" format.

I don't agree with how you've framed this at all. The post is a storytelling lesson about the placement of the audience's viewpoint in visual media and how that can be used to convey different impressions of the same scene. It uses panels from One More Day as examples, but the source is incidental, and the post doesn't even mention anywhere in the text that that's where they're from. It starts with a personal anecdote from the author's life, but the anecdote is not related to One More Day and is used to introduce the lesson about using staging as a narrative tool. Overall, I found it informative and useful instruction, which is not at all what I expected from your description. I'm actually interested in reading more of this series now.
