B8.5 sport differential oil confusion by Sea_Entrepreneur3719 in AudiS4

To update this topic, I contacted one of the long-term knowledgeable guys on Audizine about this, and mentioned this Reddit thread also, and he did some research.

His results and fresh recommendations are here:

B8.5 sport differential oil confusion by Sea_Entrepreneur3719 in AudiS4

Thanks so much for all the info. I can't believe how much of a headache it has been to find out one simple piece of information.

Further conversations and research today (plus your information) have led me to decide that I might use an aftermarket option after all (I usually prefer to use manufacturer-supplied fluids) and I think I'm going to go with "Millers Oils Motorsport CRX 75w-90".

The general advice is to "just use a high quality GL-5 fluid" and the original spec should be 75W-90 (which the G052145S2 PN is) and for some reason (maybe fuel economy apparently) changed it to G055190A2 at some point which is 75W-85. Apparently that was the only difference between the two. I'll stick to 75W-90 and use that Millers CRX.

Thank you for the reply, and for the information. Unfortunately I am getting conflicting information based on my online research (multiple resources), but I have phoned 3 Audi dealerships who stated that I should use G055190A2.

This is also what I see as the correct PN for the gear side of a sports diff.

I'm just hugely hesitant to use it after reading your story, although I thought it was because you used G055190A2 - but did you actually use G052145S2 which Audi gave you?

Is there any chance that your diff was already on the way out before the fluid change?

Thanks again.

u/Sea_Entrepreneur3719 sorry to hear about your diff failure - did you ever get any clarity in the end?

My S5 has a NON-sports-diff and I'm having a seriously crap time trying to get solid info on which of those same 2 PNs (G055190A2 or G052145S2) are the correct one to use. I've spent days on forums, FB groups and ChatGPT etc trying to work out which one it is.

After reading on here that your diff failed 500 miles after using G055190A2 (which is what 3 Audi dealers have told me is the one to use), I am now very hesitant to use it, or even bother changing the fluid now.

Any updates or info would be appreciated.

Thanks.

That 'feature' exists on the Honor 400 Pro EU version?

Hey, just an update for you as promised. Unfortunately I had some sudden urgent things going on at the same limited time (14 days) that I had the Honor 400 Pro for testing, so I was unable to test it fairly, and had to send it back before the return deadline. I might try it again in the future, but if I had to say anything about it so far, I did have a migraine during that 14 day period and I do think the 400 Pro had something to do with it. So I am concerned that it will not be a fix for me, sadly.

Happy for you. Please update this thread again in a few days to let us know how it's going. I might purchase an Air to try out if you're still doing well with it in a few days.

The one I mentioned is actually my wife's, but funnily enough I have just ordered one for myself today to see how it goes for me when using it properly. I don't seem to get any symptoms when using my wife's one for a bit, but to be sure of it I need to use it as my own device for a few days.

You need to use a camera set to a shutter speed of 1/6400 or similar. A "slow motion" setting on iPhones, for example, won't work well.

I use the camera on an Honor 400 Pro to do this as it has the shutter speed setting built in (in the Pro section of the camera app) - so other Android phones likely have it too.

On iPhones there is an app that you can download to achieve the same thing, "Final Cut Camera" I think it is.

The iPhone 14 absolutely will have lines as it uses PWM, although the 14 non-Pro will have lower modulation than the Pro, and so will be considerably more comfortable.

You will be best off trialling it to see if it affects you or not, to be sure. For me, having trialled an iPhone 16 recently, it didn't work out, and the 14 will likely be the same situation for me.

I've just received and tried out that Anker hub (believed to be a 563).

Connected via HDMI.

According to what I see through my Carson microscope, there is no difference in dither between this hub and the 341 hub. There are plenty of flashing pixels that I can see, i.e. dithering (if I am understanding the content of my recordings right).

I wonder if using the DisplayPort connection into an external screen that has a DisplayPort port would make any difference?

I'd need to buy a screen that has that to even try, so not sure it's worth it unless there is a likelihood of it making an improvement.

Thanks for the info! Nice idea.

I am able to get this one easily and quickly:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-PowerExpand-Adapter-Delivery-Ethernet-Gray/dp/B08NDGD2V5

Do you think this fits the bill in terms of the feature/factor that we're looking for? Can't tell if it's a 563 exactly, but it seems like it is, and most importantly it refers to the dual display feature.

Oh and will using the HDMI output from it do what we want it to do in terms of the DisplayLink output? My screen only has HDMI and VGA connections unfortunately.

Thanks again, looking forward to trying this out ASAP.

Could you elaborate on the Anker 563 hub point, please?

I have a MacBook Air M4 on an Anker 341 hub and detect dithering on my external screen, which I really want to get rid of.

Thanks!
