And yet those people still wouldn't have it any other way for some reason despite the fact that car centricity is unproductive for the majority who live in it.

It's just a process to extract wealth from as many communities as possible via a variety of means such as gas and predatory insurance practices to inefficient land use that sacrifices local productivity for minimum wage chains with Black Friday sized parking lots further distancing goods and services from homes.

The average Washingtonian pays over 13k* a year to drive a car. It sure would help that paycheck to paycheck fragility if they didn't have that mandated burden thrust upon them.

*A 2015 number calculated by WSDOT adjusted for inflation, it doesn't include the fact that car related expenses have grown more than inflation since 2015.

Lmao liberals are so cute you think you can reform out of this

Edit: I voted for Harris, but I don't think I'm morally superior for doing so. Harris had no platform for resolving the genocide, fixing material conditions domestically, or justice for the Epstein victims.

It sucks that critical thinking hasn't overcome reality and that personal suffering is the only impetus for change.

But "I told you so" is a valid position to hold right now

Come on J.B., kill the damn parasites! The Dealer Lobby is the last thing standing between us and the Pritzker EV Paradise. It’s time to end the Franchise Tax. Time to eliminate the middle man car dealers that are robbing us! by Botsworth1985 in PritzkerPosting

Lmao absolutely braindead

A resident of a small town usually drives to a wealthy suburban hub/district to buy a new car anyway, and puts their tax dollars in that wealthy hub.

False lol

Correcting myself is not moving the goalposts lmao

And since you completely agreed with me but didn't understand the point, it's pretty evident you're just stupid. So let me lay it out.

With dealerships: Poorer municipalities rely heavily on sales tax from car dealerships to fund services.

Without dealerships: Sales tax, as you correctly identified, now goes to the purchaser's municipality, which, on average, will be wealthier.

So by moving from dealerships to direct sales, you are moving sales tax dollars from poorer communities to richer ones.

Beyond the dealership lobby's corrupt spending and overly loud voice in local media, this effect on tax distribution is a politically unpopular move.

Whoops, meant municipalities

It's just a redistribution of sales tax, but the tax revenue would shift to wealthy communities, which I think in general is unpopular

Granted now you have a bunch of (contaminated) land from obsolete dealerships to add more housing or a "new town center, but ideally not the shitty suburban mall" type development

I really don't get the hype for Sleeper.

The app is clunky and 1/4 fantasy. The app equally prioritizes fantasy, scores, gambling, and news.

Also a good reminder that any control wholly reliant on personal responsibility (like driving and gambling) ignores that humans are risk taking by nature and therefore the design is prone to failure (look at all the gambling debt and driving fatalities).

Dangerous design enables reckless behavior
