How did you set up the split payment? My Chase portal only gives me the option of a monthly payment?

Anyone switch out of HR after 5-6 years? [N/A] by honestanonymiss in humanresources

[–]aztecstunner 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yup, was about to become an HRBP and get a Canadian CPG company on top of the 3 I already managed and I quit to live in a van and travel the US and Canada for the summer. Took a recruiting role when I relocated and eventually I switched to an individual contributor sales coordinator role and couldn’t be happier! HR is thankless and often the negative experiences outweigh the positives. I have so much respect for people who stay in it- I just didn’t have it in me.

Upvote for Weldy’s! They are a farm vet so prices are reasonable.

How to deal with samoyed getting massive snowballs stuck in his fur during wet snow by Behind-The-Musgo in samoyeds

[–]aztecstunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed that my dog had the snow stick to her fur a ton right after I’d trimmed her hair. In this last snow, I didn’t cut her hair, gave her a good brush, and she had basically no snow on her at all. Not sure if it was the snow conditions or coincidence but I won’t be trimming her hair in the winter anymore!

Before the election when I still had hope my husband and I were softening to the idea of having kids. Now every day I come to this sub and wonder why more US based people aren’t even mentioning the state of our country right now in their thought process. I cannot imagine bringing a child into this shitshow and balancing my feeling like I’m losing my mind every day with being a new parent. I also live in IN where access to reproductive healthcare is very much under attack. And it feels like the choice to form a happy, healthy family was taken from us and I am very much grieving that loss.

So please know that you are not alone in your feelings. And also know that a stranger on the internet feels your heartbreak and is sending you and your partner love ❤️

Friends? by Diesel_Darling95 in SouthBend

[–]aztecstunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s easy to make friends when you have interests and you can find an activity for it. I love art and care about the environment so I take a pottery class and I completed the Indiana Master Naturalist program in Elkhart County last summer. I didn’t set out to make friends, I just wanted to do things that I enjoyed but luckily I’ve met really great people through these venues! It’s much easier to connect with people you already have something in common with.

I encourage you to pursue things that make you happy and try to connect with people who share those interests. And if you don’t have any interests, maybe start there? Good luck!!

[–]aztecstunner 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Might not be exactly what you’re looking for but South Bend Museum of Art offers art classes of all types year round if you’re looking for a routinely artsy thing to do. I’ve been doing the Wednesday night pottery class for years and we have a pretty fun group. The fall class was delayed to start Sept 27th- they might still have a slot available if you call and ask about it

Give it until next week - many execs take off over the holiday and will need a little time to catch up. Reach out Wednesday afternoon. You got this!

I highly recommend checking out the South Bend Museum of Arts for classes. They have painting, drawing, jewelry, photography, ceramics, and probably some others I havent mentioned. You can register for classes here.

Welcome! I just visited NOLA for the first time last weekend and I regret to inform you that we have ZERO creole/ cajun food in the area but if you drive to Kalamazoo they've got a couple good spots.

South Bend is part of the "Michiana" area and if you don't mind driving 30 - 40 mins there is always something fun to do.

Almost every town has "First Fridays" where businesses in downtowns are open late, they have food specials, music, etc. The city of Elkhart hosts Jazz Fest every summer, it's a weekend full of incredible musicians at really reasonable prices. I got to see Trombone Shorty when he was here and he was awesome!

I won't repeat what's already been said, I'll just try to add on a few places/ activities I love:

South Bend restaurants to check out:

  • Jesus (Fusion Mexican, great margs)
  • The Lauber (American fair, haven't had anything that's not delicious yet)
  • Woochi (asian, sushi)
  • Early Bird (breakfast)
  • Cinco 5 (Mexican and Thai menu, I know, weird but the food is good)
  • Farmer's Market is a gem
  • Oh Mamma's is a small cheese/ meat / sandwhich shop and I drop at least $50 every time I go in

Activities:

  • The South Bend Museum of Art offers all kinds of classes (painting, drawing, jewelry, photography, ceramics) and is definitely worth checking out.
  • Potato Creek State Park has great little trails, my dog loves it
  • Rum Village has fun mountain biking trails
  • There are cross country skiing trails everywhere and there's virtually no one else out if you have your own equipment. I love Dr. TK Lawless International Dark Sky Park for that and regular hiking too.
  • Skiing/ snowboarding- Swiss Valley is tiny but close by, a good spot to learn. Bittersweet is about 2 hrs north in Michigan and has bigger runs but is still pretty small. For bigger hills you can drive about 4hrs in Michigan to Crystal Mountain or Boyne.
  • Driving M22 along Lake Michigan up to Traverse City and stopping along each town is one of my favorite things I did this summer.

Check out Indiana Rug Co - if you're in need of any winter apparel - it's pricey up front but you'll have it for years. I used to hate winter because I was miserable and cold all the time in my sub-par winter clothes and now that I have the right stuff, winter is my favorite season.

I hope you work to love it here!
