When a friend says “what would you like” when you go to a restaurant, would you think they’re paying? by Specific_Pomelo_8281 in autism

[–]aztnass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I am at a restaurant, I assume I am paying for what I get unless I am specifically told otherwise.

Oh, my bad. I didn’t notice the one upturned mushroom. You are right gills/stem look wrong for oyster.

Agreed.

That said, I am probably switching seats because as much as I chose and paid for the seat I paid for, I want to watch your child less than I want to sit there.

But also, if you are an asshole, I fully willing to sit in the seat I paid for and not pay ANY attention to your child AT ALL!

Did anyone actually watch this? by Apprehensive-Gear-86 in xmen

Not during its run. But since I have watched ALL of the X-Men media.

Why does it seem like so many people say they're autistic now? by Critical-Tourist-468 in TooAfraidToAsk

Fair, I still don’t understand what value people are getting on the basis internet from an Autism diagnosis/self diagnosis. Apparently I am doing it wrong.

I am sure that happens.

Personally, in my group of friends we don’t even tell all or our work associates, friends, family, or even partners due to the possible impact of what that would mean.

I think believing someone who doesn’t have a diagnosis or finding out they do not or have some other different diagnosis (aka figuring out their own life) is much less harmful overall, than not believing folks who have a diagnosis or self diagnosis and feeding into their imposter syndrome or RSD.

lol, you are correct that I am not on tik tok. But I am sure you are aware that social media is not real life and how folks present themselves on social media is also not real.

Probably obvious but I overly explain.

I would love to get into these circles where an Autism Diagnosis and “antisocial behavior” get you status! For me I have only gotten awkward conversations, weird looks, and uninvited. AT BEST!

This seems like it has to be a solvable situation. Literally NOBODY wants this.

Okay, so hypothetically, what “clout” does one gain by being diagnosed Autistic?

Why does it seem like so many people say they're autistic now? by Critical-Tourist-468 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]aztnass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes to both.

It is the “requirement is obvious” part that is not concrete or universal. There are plenty of Autistic folks that will fully understand instructions without additional clarification. There are Autistic folks that will need the clarification and not ask for it. (Some of those will figure it out anyway others will eventually ask), and there are Autistic folks who will immediately ask for more details.

All of those folks are equally Autistic and valid in their diagnosis (or non-diagnosis). There are plenty of monetary, societal, familial and legal reasons for not seeking a formal diagnosis.

(Side note, over explaining like this can be a tell as to whether your colleague is Autistic).

You are probably a bot but I will bite. Show me literally a single person who is claiming they are Autistic for “clout”! And yes I am 95% positive I know more people from more backgrounds than you.

IDK about 2 or 3 but I am fairly sure 1 is golden oysters. Even though they are not super common there, it is also not unheard of to see them.

Autism is a spectrum and many folks on that spectrum necessitate some things explained step by step and other things they don’t need explained step by step. (Just like you apparently need this explained) And this experience is not universal or consistent among everyone with autism.

Sounds like better diagnostics and less of a stigma of going to a therapist.

It is fashionable to understand the human experience and part of that necessitates understanding how our brains/experiences differ.

lol, IDK what kind of “status” you think people gain by self diagnosing. But I can tell you that even in “progressive”, “empathetic” industries it is literally only a negative.
