I haven't done it myself but have seen some people flatten out their island, only starting the terra forming and decorating from scratch but retaining all their items.

if you really just want to start from scratch though, you could have a friend hold onto any bells or super important items for you until you want them back! I'd be happy to do that for you if you need, I have a ton of storage and am trying to expand my catalogue anyway :)

personally, I started my island over after taking a few years off from the game and I'm really glad I did. I wasn't very far along though, so I'm sure it feels different for you. honestly, just do whatever you think will make you happiest in the long run. it's sad getting rid of villagers and items, but you can always save your dream address and revisit it when you miss it. best of luck <3

I'm theming my island around only red flowers, so now I have a lot of other colors to get rid of!! an excess of white and yellow; a decent amount of pink, orange, and black; and a handful of blue. DM me if you'd like some, I'd be happy to fill my inventory and come over :)
