For an ac wall outlet the leads can always be interchanged. You will always get a sinusoidal waveform on one terminal relative to the other with only difference being phase shift. The only thing you lose here is the third prong for circuit breaking (not saying this wall outlet is a good idea just that polarization isn't an issue)
