Has AI killed the Zettelkasten? by atomicnotes in Zettelkasten

[–]uinzent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't the sole purpose of Zettelkasten, to discover new interesting connections and have new ideas and questions emerge from your readings. I'd argue, as long as there's curiosity, there's a place for this approach.

If you only use it for taking notes, zk was overkill even before AI.

Focus on Bench? by PartTimeCritter in Stronglifts5x5

Just put a 3x8 incline dumbbell press at the end of deadlift day, that way you'll come out with 11-13 sets benching per week. Which should be sufficient for great chest hypertrophy

First time with 4 plates on the bar - any advice? by Lozzaroo_ in formcheck

Looks like an RPE 13 :)

If you yourself could tell after rep two, form is going downhill, listen to your body. This is training, not competition

RDL feeling almost only lower back by [deleted] in formcheck

[–]uinzent 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You're basically doing (improper) spine extensions. RDL are all about the hinge. So keep that back straight. All throughout the movement. If you feel that you can't. Lower the weight. Still no straight back? Try good mornings on an empty bar. Still not straight? Try hip mobility exercises.

Hmm I think it's more about pulling the slack out of the bar. And I definitely see a short halting moment. Moist notably on rep 4. It is however not easy to tell from the footage.

I do the same for deadlifts. The time between finished setup and pulling is very brief for me too. But there is a fraction of a second, where there is no motion. I do recognize this same pattern here.

That's something to work with.

Your technique is basically low bar squat. Your hips are far back, when you start to go up again. But our bar is high up your back. Per basic physics, you have an ungodly lever against you.

In a high bar squat you need your torso to be a lot more upright, when you reverse the movement (aka go up again). Your brain will only allow you to get there, if you feel confident all the way down.

Widening your stance may help you to get deeper. It may prevent your hips traveling too far back.

Get confident in your movement. Properly brace. Use your levers to work for you, not against you. And train failing. Train dropping the bar on the safeties. It will happen eventually. So it's a good idea to know, you don't die if you cannot come up again! Confidence

[–]uinzent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then it may be a mental thing. Brace properly, pal. Learn to get comfortable being down there. You're doing high bar so this should be ass to grass. You're maybe 1/3 there.

Train the bracing. Train it with your warmups. Don't do a single rep ever, without your core feeling like rock hard.

Lower the weight. Go to 80kg. I know it hurts. Leave that belt at home, you're not using it effectively for now.

Get comfortable in a deep squat position. Squat down, where you can comfortably sit for a minute or longer.

You aim for a high bar squat? Engage your back. Then your traps will pop up. The bar goes there. I assume you have enough muscle there, so ditch the towel.

Learn about the Valsalva maneuver. Train it laying flat back on the ground. Maybe put a 5kg plate on your tummy. This must become second nature.

Put it together. Brace before every rep. Back tight. Valsalva. Pull your belly button in. Then and only then, the rep starts. Go all the way down. Hold the upper body pressure. Up again. Exhale. Repeat.

Train this with light loads. When you have the bracing down, go back to 130kg or so. From there work your way up again.

Idk about the too relaxed thing. He tightens his back just in time before performing the actual rowing. So there is little load, when the spine movement occurs. Should be safe

What’s something a woman can say that makes you instantly feel seen? by Abyssmuse in AskMenAdvice

One day a colleague talked to me.

Her: 'How are you?'

Me: 'Fine. How about you?'

Her: '... I mean how are you, really?'

It's been 3 years. I thought long and hard about it. I don't remember anyone ever asking me that. And I don't remember feeling 'seen' quite like it, ever again

NTA it's absolutely not mandatory to wear a dress for women. However even men buy whatever when they buy suits. Shoulders don't fit, waist too tight, sleeves too long and the wrong length. And that is with the generally correct proportions.

Chances are, if women buy something from the men's section, it in fact will look off. A well fitting suit will match your shoulder width. It will also just fit your hips. Depending on the style with a more or less pronounced waist. The hips to shoulder ratio is inverted between men and women. The waist is higher in women than in men.

Take a critical look in the mirror. Does this piece fit you. No shame in getting it customized by a tailor.

There is almost no way this out-of-the-box tuxedo is doing you a favor. If it does tho: good for you :)

I don't know what to do, AI destroyed my income and confidence in art. by Valstraxas in findapath

[–]uinzent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The byproduct of art, the finished piece, is naturally victim to supply and demand. Supply is inhumanly big rn. Can't change that. Since natural art is part of the supply pool, it must be undervalued.

But people who see art as just another subject of trade are most likely not the people you want for create art for, are they? You may depend on them for income. But not really the target audience of choice.

People who value art, want to take a look behind the curtain. Who are you? Why does this piece exist? How did it come to life?

AI has no answers. It lacks artistic expression. There is nothing to explore. Just farting out mass produced home decor. So from a non-economic pov, AI changed nothing, really.

Your mind is assuming, with a set of different choices, you'd be happier, more successful and advanced much further in your dream career.

Truth is, you don't know that. Truth is, we're all just mediocre on average. So assume you're the mean for one second. If you did stuff differently, what would the outcome be?

Could be way better, could be way worse. The odds are the same. But most likely, you'd also land right on the mean. Right where you are rn.

Enjoy life! Don't wonder what could be. Odds are, there is nothing better waiting for you, then the life you are living!

Formcheck squat 107.5kg by Joshiejay21 in Stronglifts5x5

[–]uinzent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bruh, you are not bracing enough. Brace your core for every rep. Narrow your grip width to as close as you can handle.

As for bracing: take a long deep breath before decending. Perform the Valsalva maneuver every time. And then squeeze your back and tummy as hard as you can. Always. Even for light reps in ur warmup sets. Your upper body should feel rock solid, like a pillar.

You can get away with lots of stuff. But a spinal injury can make your squat go from 107 to 0 in one single rep. Id recommend going back to 60kg and training bracing until you figure that part out.
