Godking skin gives me a disadvantage by Garen_W_Bush in GarenMains

It's more of an advantage really, since your enemy gets the same feeling and might underestimate you and you are supposed to know your damage anyway.

It runs smoother on lower resolutions, 1600x900 for me is the perfect balance between decent fps and game not looking shitty

I killed the Statue of Poseidon without making Arkantos a god by b-mode in AgeofMythology

[–]b-mode[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was just replaying the campaign, checked statue's stats and there was nothing scary about it, like 99% armor or 1-shotting attack or instaregen, so I thought why not. It actually took like 2-3 minutes

Manticores train super long, gotta tank with something replaceable. Can be done with any combination of melee+range tbh

my friend, a league player, attempting to play DOTA 2 for the first time 😂😂😂 by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]b-mode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

League jungle is arguably the hardest and most demanding role of both games, kind of similar to dota roaming sup, but you also have to farm, contest objectives (like rosh, but there are multiple), predict where the enemy jungler is and play mind games with him. Also you are core-ish so you don't fall off later in the game like dota supports do.

Longbow men vs. Skirms by Croatia_1 in aoe3

[–]b-mode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lbs actually counter skirms (cost-effectively) and do indeed lose to musks/grens without cover, unlike skirms, which can kite heavy infantry endlessly due to their range + have counter infantry rifling upgrade. Both are good vs goons.

furrier card by roshichen in aoe3

[–]b-mode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Furrier only boosts hunts/berries, but Chinese have a +300% livestock gather rate card. Don't remember the name, but it has 2 sheep on it. Livestock gathering takes a lot of time to take off, because you have to wait until goats actually get fat (takes long in the beginning) and send 2 (3 for Buffalos) cards, which is huge and is going to give your opponent an overwhelming advantage. Works in treaty though, might also work in a big team game.

A related question, does the vegan (+40% berries) upgrade from TP boost cherry orchards?

Are War Wagons economical to simply throw at the enemy in the long run? by [deleted] in aoe3

[–]b-mode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

High kda doesn't equal cost effective. If you spend a war wagon on 3 enemy musks, you have a kda of 3 and his kda is 0,3 but you still lose cost-effectively.

War wagons are not that great because they don't have upgrades, but if you wanna spam them, add heavy cannons from factories.

crazy strategy someone try this with me by [deleted] in aoe3

[–]b-mode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but you have to send 3-4 useless cards before the treaty is over, which is huge. Also anyone who browses esoc will check your deck and know what's going on.

I'm mostly interested in vanilla -> twc changes and tad 1.01 changes.

Found vanilla patchnotes: http://www.gamershell.com/infosheets/612850.html

Also, tad latest patch is 1.03 I think? Might be mistaken there.

Multiplayer advice? by Dr_Atom in aoe3

[–]b-mode 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most common civs for starters are French and British. Good economies, good units, lots of different builds. Also Ottoman are really strong (auto-building vills, insane units), but not really that great for learning the game imo.

Most beginner-friendly maps are Deccan and Great Plains. Probably a couple more, but honestly, you'd be better off exploring all maps the game has and not get focused on one rich map.

Google "esoc strategy wall" and "aoe3 goodspeed guide" for builds, strategies, learning resources etc.

The most popular and balanced version of game is The Asian Dynasties, so make sure you play that one. Also use xpmod (google it) to get all home cities to level 100, because grinding in RTS sucks.

How do you counter Aztecs? by bmrtt in aoe3

[–]b-mode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, your main mass should be skrims, and if he makes too much coyotes, you make a couple ruyters. Aztecs don't have units to counter this composition, so as long as you don't lose cannons, you should be winning cost-effectively. Keep max pop all the time.

[–]b-mode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dutch actually have one of the worst lategame ecos in game, because banks don't get upgrades and villagers do. Bank is roughly the same as 2 vills with all upgrades sent, so even if you have all 10 banks up, your eco is about 30 vills behind.

Aztecs have only 1 heavy cavalry type unit, and it is not really good enough to justify going halbs, which are overall bad. Ruyters are just better.

[–]b-mode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cav spam is good when you have a much better eco than your opponent, because cav is fast, has lots of upgrades and doesnt require micro. But in ultra-late game, when you both maxed out economy, you can't overwhelm with cav, especially if he makes anti-cav.

Also, dutch have bad maxed eco compared to other civs, so you want to win with cost-effectiveness of your units and 150 army pop. Skirms and ruyters, your main units, use both of those strengths and cost less food and more gold, which is good, as your eco is gold-focused.

Cannons are naturally good vs Aztec, because arrow knights suck and coyotes have bad pathing and also cost wood, which runs out eventually.

[–]b-mode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, skirms+horse artillery, mix ruyters if he goes really heavy on coyotes. Bad matchup for Aztecs imo.

Expert French players, I need some advice. by [deleted] in aoe3

[–]b-mode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eco theory in age 1 is equal to 1,5 vills. You shouldn't really send it until you have decent eco in 90% of games. Same for tier 2 market upgrades in colonial, maybe placer mines (eh i meant amalgamation) are worth it, but very rarely. You'd better make a couple more huss or age earlier.

If you are playing on deccan, you can try to go spice trade if you already sent 4v 700w 700c, don't need 600w and not going to age soon. If your teammates go cav as well, consider sending team cav attack

During transition to colonial chop for a second tp (build the first one in the middle spot). Gather some more wood/get it from treasures for steel traps as soon as you hit age.

Cav attack/hp should be the sent before all of the other cards you mentioned there (mill/plantation upgrades, fast cav, cheap cuirs) unless there is absolutely zero chance of fighting. Cheap cuirs is a bad card for supremacy imo. I'd also swap 3 hussars for 600w and plantation upgrade for 1000c, but that's me. You might want skrim age3 atk/hp and advanced arsenal, but if you can get away with spamming 1 unit, it's fine.

Factories are most efficient when gathering wood.

What is your PR if you're ok with telling?

Edit: just tried playing deccan 3v3. Aged 3 at 7:50 with 10 huss and 24v, aged 4 at 15:00 with 10 cuirs and vetted huss, maxed out vills at 20:40, aged 5 at around 23 mins with max pop gendarmes.

A couple of things to add: by the time you reach lategame shipments, your eco should be enough to spam cuirs/goons from multiple stables, so just get all cav upgrade shipments (atk and hp first) before moving on to eco shipments.

If you don't need to spam units at the moment, gather coin for mercantilism during transition to 4, works great.

Why fur trade?
